Spektrum AR630+ 6-Channel AS3X+ & SAFE Receiver Overview
The AR630+ features fly-by-range telemetry, a bind button for easy binding with no plugs necessary, SmartSafe technology, Hold Last, and preset failsafe types set through Forward Programming. It also features Smart Telemetry support and Smart Throttle support. Additionally, Smart Model Files allow BNF models to be stored on the receiver to automatically set the model at bind.
With Smart Technology, the normal servo connector delivers the throttle signal to the ESC, and the ESC sends telemetry data like voltage and current back to the receiver. The AR630+ receiver throttle port (Channel 1 port only) will automatically detect when a Smart-compatible ESC is connected. ESCs with Smart and IC series connectors can also pass along battery data from compatible Spektrum Smart batteries. Spektrum Avian ESCs are compatible with the AR630+ receiver for Smart Technology features.
For Smart to function, you must have a Smart ESC paired with a Smart Telemetry receiver and a Spektrum DSMX transmitter with telemetry. An update for your transmitter may be required for Smart features. See www.spektrumrc.com to register and update your transmitter. If a standard ESC or servo is plugged into the throttle port on the AR630+ receiver, the throttle port will operate normally (PWM signal) like any conventional RC system.
Please Note: These transmitters do not support Forward Programming devices: DX6i, DX6G2 (EU Version), DX7, DX7S, DX7SE, DX7G2 (EU Version), DX8, non-computer transmitters.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is AS3X+ and how does it improve my RC aircraft flying? — AS3X+ is Spektrum's next-generation in-flight stabilisation system featuring a vastly improved stabilisation algorithm that delivers better flight performance, improved sensor accuracy, and no delay in control response or limits on control throws. Unlike previous stabilisation systems that can feel sluggish or limit how far you can move the control sticks, AS3X+ allows full control authority whilst providing subtle corrections that make your RC aircraft feel like an expertly tuned machine. Pilots report that aircraft equipped with AS3X+ respond more naturally and predictably in all flight conditions.
- What is SAFE technology and do I need it? — SAFE (Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope) Technology uses the AS3X+ stabilisation system to monitor your RC aircraft's attitude and prevent over-control by limiting bank and pitch angles. This keeps your aircraft within safe flying envelopes, preventing it from getting into extreme attitudes that could lead to crashes. SAFE is particularly valuable for learning pilots, for recovery from control mistakes, and for protecting expensive RC aircraft during competitive flying or challenging conditions. You can disable SAFE through Forward Programming if you prefer unrestricted control.
- Is the AR630+ suitable for beginners? — Yes, the AR630+ is excellent for beginners, especially when used with SAFE technology enabled. The built-in stabilisation and flight envelope protection make it much more forgiving than conventional receivers, helping new pilots learn smooth control inputs and recover from mistakes. However, the receiver is also sophisticated enough for advanced aerobatic flying and competitive use, so you won't outgrow it as your skills develop. Beginners should note that they need a compatible Spektrum DSMX transmitter with Forward Programming support to set up the receiver.
- What battery does the AR630+ need? — The AR630+ accepts input voltages from 3.5V to 9V, which covers virtually all standard RC receiver battery configurations. You can use 1S LiPo batteries (3.7V nominal), 1S LiFe batteries (3.2V nominal), 2S configurations (7.4V nominal), or even 3S packs (11.1V nominal) if you use appropriate voltage regulators. Most RC pilots use a dedicated 2S LiPo receiver battery pack in the 1000-2200mAh range, which provides reliable power and good runtime. Always ensure your battery is properly balanced and in good condition before flying.
- Do I need a Smart ESC to use the AR630+? — No, the AR630+ works perfectly with any standard ESC. However, if you use a Spektrum Smart ESC (such as the Spektrum Avian series), you'll unlock additional features including Smart Telemetry, which sends real-time data about voltage, current, temperature, and RPM directly to your Spektrum transmitter. This gives you valuable flight-time information and battery health monitoring. If you use a standard ESC, the receiver functions normally with conventional PWM signals, making it compatible with virtually any brushless or brushed speed controller.
- What transmitter do I need to use the AR630+? — You need a Spektrum DSMX or DSM2 compatible transmitter. For full features including Forward Programming setup, you'll want a modern computer transmitter such as the iX20, iX14, or NX series. Note that older transmitters including the DX6i, DX6G2 (EU), DX7, DX7S, DX7SE, DX7G2 (EU), DX8, and non-computer transmitters do not support Forward Programming. If you have an older transmitter, you can still bind and use the AR630+ with default settings, but you won't be able to adjust AS3X+ or SAFE parameters wirelessly.
- Is the internal antenna as good as an external antenna? — Yes, the AR630+ internal antenna design actually delivers superior full-range performance compared to traditional external antennas. Internal antennas eliminate the risk of failure from long-term wire exposure, accidental damage, or antenna placement mistakes. The internal design has been engineered to provide excellent range and signal integrity across the entire 2.4GHz frequency spectrum, and users report no noticeable difference in range or performance compared to external antenna receivers.
- How many servos can I connect to the AR630+? — The AR630+ provides 6 independent channels, so you can connect up to 6 servos or other devices. Typical configurations include aileron (1-2 servos), elevator (1-2 servos), rudder (1 servo), throttle (1 ESC), landing gear (1 servo), and flaps (1-2 servos), depending on your RC aircraft design. You can assign any servo to any channel through transmitter programming.
- What makes the AR630+ different from the AR631+ or AR637T+? — The AR630+ is the basic 6-channel model without built-in telemetry sensors, making it the most affordable option. The AR631+ is a slightly enhanced version, whilst the AR637T+ is a telemetry version with integrated sensors and enhanced features. If you want telemetry and don't need integrated sensors, the AR630+ is the best choice because it works with Spektrum Smart ESCs to get telemetry data without additional modules or wiring.
- Can I use the AR630+ in turbine-powered aircraft? — Spektrum does not recommend using the AR630+ in turbine-powered aircraft models due to the extreme heat and vibration environments associated with turbine power plants. For turbine aircraft, you should consult Spektrum's compatibility documentation or contact customer support for suitable alternatives.
- How do I set up and tune the AS3X+ system? — Setup is incredibly simple thanks to Forward Programming. You use your compatible Spektrum transmitter's Forward Programming menu to adjust AS3X+ parameters wirelessly, directly from the field. Most aircraft can be set up in less than five minutes, including first-flight tuning. The AR630+ includes preset configurations for common aircraft types, and the system is designed to be even easier to tune than previous AS3X versions, with no need for hours of tweaking and adjustment.
