Overview
The SPM Servo: 13g Analog Metal Gear POS P-SPMSA450 is a compact yet robust servo designed for RC aircraft enthusiasts who demand reliable performance in a lightweight package. This sub-micro servo delivers the precision control and durability that serious RC modellers expect, whether you're flying fixed-wing aircraft, testing new designs, or maintaining a collection of RC planes. As a trusted component from Spektrum, this servo represents excellent value for both experienced RC hobbyists and those building their first aircraft in the UK RC market.
Weighing just 13 grams, this servo is engineered to minimise aircraft weight whilst maintaining the structural integrity and longevity required for repeated flights and consistent control inputs. The metal gear construction ensures that this servo will withstand the demands of regular use without the premature wear that plastic alternatives often suffer. Whether you're setting up an RC plane for leisure flying or need reliable spares for your hangar, the A450 has earned its place as a dependable workhorse in the RC aircraft community across the UK and beyond.
Key Features
- Sub-Micro Form Factor — At just 13 grams, this servo is specifically designed for RC aircraft where weight savings directly translate to improved flight performance, longer flight times, and better responsiveness to control inputs.
- Full Metal Gear Construction — The metal gear design provides superior durability and resistance to wear compared to plastic alternatives, ensuring consistent torque delivery and extending the operational lifespan of your servo through many flight cycles.
- Analog Control Technology — The analog control system offers straightforward operation that integrates seamlessly with standard RC receiver systems and transmitters, providing reliable, lag-free control without the complexity of digital servos.
- 4.8-6.0V Operating Voltage — This voltage range covers both 4-cell NiMH batteries and 2-cell lithium polymer batteries, making the servo compatible with most standard RC aircraft power systems commonly used in the UK RC hobby scene.
- 4.6mm Shaft Diameter — The standard servo shaft diameter ensures compatibility with a wide range of servo arms and control linkages readily available from RC hobby retailers, simplifying maintenance and customisation of your aircraft.
Technical Performance
The SPM Servo A450 is engineered as a sub-micro digital aircraft servo that combines lightweight construction with the ruggedness required for reliable flight control. The 13-gram weight is achieved through careful design optimisation without compromising the metal gear drive train, which delivers consistent torque throughout the servo's operating envelope. Operating across the 4.8 to 6.0 volt range, this servo is fully compatible with both traditional NiMH battery systems and modern 2S LiPo configurations that have become increasingly popular in RC aircraft applications. The 4.6mm shaft diameter conforms to industry standards, ensuring that servo arms, control horns, and linkage components from mainstream RC manufacturers will fit without modification. The analog control methodology ensures there is no additional processing lag, providing immediate response to pilot inputs—a critical characteristic for aeronautical models where control lag can compromise flight stability and handling precision. The metal gear construction sets this servo apart from lighter plastic alternatives, offering the durability and consistency that serious RC aircraft builders demand from their control systems.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the SPM Servo A450 suitable for beginner RC aircraft builders? — Yes, absolutely. This servo's lightweight profile and straightforward analog operation make it an excellent choice for entry-level RC aircraft projects. The metal gear construction also means beginners won't need to worry about premature wear, allowing them to focus on learning proper flying techniques rather than servo maintenance issues.
- What battery voltage does the A450 require? — The servo operates across the 4.8 to 6.0 volt range, making it compatible with both 4-cell NiMH batteries (which deliver approximately 4.8V) and 2-cell lithium polymer batteries (which deliver approximately 7.4V nominal, though they operate within the servo's rated range during discharge). Ensure your battery system stays within this specification for optimal performance.
- How does this servo compare to other 13g servos available for RC aircraft in the UK? — The A450 distinguishes itself through full metal gear construction, which provides superior durability compared to many competing servos that use plastic gears. The analog control system also ensures there is no digital processing lag, making it particularly suitable for aircraft where immediate control response is critical. At the 13-gram weight class, this servo delivers an excellent balance between lightweight design and robust construction.
- What aircraft types is this servo suitable for? — The sub-micro classification and 13-gram weight make the A450 ideal for small to medium RC fixed-wing aircraft, including trainers, sport flyers, acrobatic models, and general-purpose aircraft. The metal gear construction means the servo can handle the repeated control inputs demanded by all flying styles without performance degradation.
- Is the 4.6mm shaft compatible with standard servo arms? — Yes, the 4.6mm shaft diameter is an industry standard size. You will find compatible servo arms and control horns from virtually all major RC manufacturers readily available from UK RC hobby retailers, ensuring you can easily configure and customise the servo installation in your aircraft.
- Can I use this servo for multiple aircraft? — Absolutely. The robust metal gear construction means the A450 will withstand transfer between different aircraft frames without suffering wear or performance loss, making it a valuable component to keep in your RC spares collection.
