This compact 13-gram servo is purpose-built for small-scale aircraft applications where weight is critical and reliability is non-negotiable. Whether you're flying electric RC planes, micro helicopters, or other lightweight RC aircraft, this servo offers the metal gear durability and reverse functionality that serious RC pilots demand.
Spektrum's reputation as a leader in RC radio systems and electronics extends to their servo range, and this A450 sub-micro model exemplifies their commitment to quality and performance. The metal gear construction ensures that this servo can handle the demands of frequent flying without the gear stripping issues that plague cheaper plastic alternatives. The reverse function adds versatility to your RC aircraft setup, allowing you to configure control surfaces in either direction without mechanical modifications.
For RC model shop customers in the UK seeking a reliable, lightweight servo solution for micro and sub-micro aircraft projects, this Spektrum servo represents excellent value and engineering pedigree backed by a manufacturer recognised worldwide for excellence in RC electronics.
Key Features
- 13-gram weight — This ultra-lightweight servo specification is critical for small-scale RC aircraft, where every gram matters for flight performance, battery efficiency and overall aircraft balance. Lighter servos mean better climb rates, longer flight times and more responsive aircraft handling.
- Full metal gear construction — The metal gears provide superior durability and torque handling compared to plastic alternatives, ensuring your servo survives countless flights and control inputs without stripping or failing. This is essential for serious RC aircraft pilots who cannot afford servo failure mid-flight.
- Analog technology — This servo uses proven analog circuitry, offering reliable, predictable performance without the complexity of digital servos, making it an excellent choice for straightforward RC aircraft control applications.
- Reverse function capability — The REV designation indicates this servo supports reverse function, allowing you to configure the servo direction electronically through your RC radio system rather than requiring mechanical reversal, simplifying installation and increasing flexibility.
- Sub-micro A450 design — Spektrum's A450 platform is specifically engineered for sub-micro aircraft applications, ensuring this servo fits within tight airframe spaces whilst delivering the torque needed for reliable control surface actuation.
- Spektrum brand reliability — Backed by Horizon Hobby's reputation for quality, this servo is built to the same exacting standards as the renowned Spektrum DX radio systems, ensuring performance you can trust in the air.
Technical Performance
The SPM Servo 13g Analog Metal Gear REV P-SPMSA450R represents the pinnacle of sub-micro servo engineering for RC aircraft applications. At just 13 grams, this servo achieves an exceptional power-to-weight ratio that makes it ideal for micro-scale electric RC planes, foam aircraft conversions and other weight-sensitive RC projects. The full metal gear construction is engineered from materials selected specifically for durability and torque delivery, offering the mechanical advantage needed to move control surfaces reliably whilst resisting the wear patterns that develop through hundreds of flight cycles. The analog control circuitry provides stable, responsive servo behaviour without the potential programming complexity of digital alternatives, making this servo suitable for pilots of all experience levels. Installation is straightforward, with standard RC servo connectors that integrate seamlessly with Spektrum radio systems and other industry-standard RC receivers. The reverse function capability allows pilots and engineers to configure servo direction electronically, eliminating the need for mechanical reversal solutions and providing flexibility during aircraft setup and calibration. Whether you're building a micro-scale aerobatic aircraft, a slow-flying foam model, or any sub-micro RC aircraft project, this Spektrum servo delivers the combination of lightweight efficiency, mechanical durability and reliable performance that distinguishes quality RC electronics from budget alternatives.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this servo suitable for micro and sub-micro RC aircraft? — Yes, this is exactly what the A450 sub-micro designation indicates. At 13 grams with full metal gears, this servo is engineered specifically for small-scale RC aircraft applications where weight and reliability are both critical factors. It's an ideal choice for micro electric planes, foam conversions and ultra-lightweight RC models.
- What does the reverse function mean? — The REV designation means this servo supports electronic direction reversal through your RC radio system. Rather than requiring mechanical reversal or servo extension reversals, you can simply configure the servo direction in your Spektrum transmitter or receiver programming, making installation and setup significantly easier.
- Will this servo work with my existing RC radio system? — This Spektrum servo is compatible with any RC system that uses standard servo connectors and protocols. It works with Spektrum receivers and is also compatible with other RC radio brands that use conventional servo interfaces. Check your radio system manual to confirm compatibility.
- How much torque does this servo have? — Whilst specific torque figures are not detailed in the manufacturer specifications, the full metal gear construction ensures this servo delivers sufficient torque for control surface actuation on sub-micro aircraft whilst maintaining the lightweight profile essential for micro-scale RC aircraft applications.
- What battery does this servo need? — Like all standard RC servos, this model is powered directly through your RC receiver, which in turn receives power from your aircraft's main battery. For typical RC aircraft, this means a 2S or 3S LiPo battery will provide the servo power needed through the receiver's battery input.
- How does this compare to plastic gear servos? — The metal gear construction in this Spektrum servo offers dramatically better durability and torque handling compared to plastic gear alternatives. Whilst plastic servos are lighter and cheaper, they're prone to gear stripping under load or over many flight cycles. Metal gear servos survive thousands more cycles and handle shock loads far better, making them the choice of serious RC pilots.
