Technical Performance
The Corally M1.0 Pinion Short Hardened Steel 20 Teeth delivers exceptional technical performance through its precision engineering and premium material selection. Built from specially hardened steel rather than standard alloy, this pinion offers superior wear resistance and maintains its precise tooth profile even after thousands of metres of racing. The CNC-cutting process ensures that each tooth is cut to exact specifications with tolerances measured in fractions of a millimetre, guaranteeing that mesh with your spur gear is absolutely precise. With a module pitch of MOD1 and 20 teeth, this pinion is calibrated for 1/8 scale RC cars and buggies, providing an optimal balance between acceleration and top speed across a variety of track conditions. The 5.0mm motor shaft diameter means it fits standard brushless motors used in competitive 1/8 scale vehicles, while the 6.20mm teeth width and 13.0mm overall length ensure proper engagement and durability under sustained racing loads. The ultra-true running characteristics eliminate vibration that would otherwise transfer through the motor bearings and transmission, resulting in smoother acceleration, more predictable handling, and reduced wear on all drivetrain components. Whether you're pushing your 1/8 scale RC buggy to its limits on a high-speed circuit or exploring technical terrain with a rock crawler conversion, this pinion delivers the reliability and performance that serious RC competitors expect.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What vehicles is the Corally M1.0 20-tooth pinion gear compatible with? — This pinion is designed to fit all 1/8 scale RC cars and buggies equipped with MOD1 gearing systems. It features a 5.0mm motor shaft diameter, making it compatible with standard brushless motors used in competitive 1/8 scale vehicles. Before purchasing, verify that your vehicle uses MOD1 gears and has a 5.0mm motor shaft to ensure proper fit and function.
- Why is hardened steel better than standard pinion gears? — Hardened steel undergoes a special heat treatment process that increases its hardness and wear resistance significantly compared to standard steel or aluminium alloys. This means the teeth maintain their precise profile longer, resist stripping under extreme torque, and deliver consistent performance over thousands of racing runs. For serious RC enthusiasts who demand reliability and longevity, hardened steel is the professional standard.
- What does MOD1 mean and why does it matter? — MOD stands for module, which is a gear specification that defines the tooth size and pitch. MOD1 is a standard size used exclusively in 1/8 scale competitive racing, and the teeth on your spur gear must match this specification exactly for proper mesh and function. Using a MOD1 pinion with a MOD1 spur gear ensures smooth engagement, efficient power transfer, and longevity of both components.
- How do I know what tooth count pinion to choose for my RC car? — Pinion tooth count directly affects your vehicle's gear ratio and determines the balance between acceleration and top speed. A lower tooth count (fewer teeth) provides faster acceleration but lower top speed, whilst a higher tooth count provides higher top speed but slower acceleration. The 20-tooth configuration on this pinion is a popular choice for 1/8 scale racing as it offers a balanced ratio suitable for various track conditions. Experiment with different counts to find your optimal setup.
- What is concentricity and why is it important in RC gears? — Concentricity refers to how precisely the teeth are centred around the gear's axis. Poor concentricity causes the gear to run off-centre, creating vibration and uneven tooth engagement that damages bearings and reduces motor efficiency. The Corally pinion is manufactured on specialised gear machines to ensure perfect concentricity, eliminating vibration and delivering smooth, reliable performance.
- Is the Corally M1.0 20-tooth pinion suitable for beginners? — Whilst this pinion is a precision component suitable for all skill levels, it's most appreciated by racers and serious enthusiasts who understand drivetrain tuning and want premium quality. Beginners can certainly benefit from the superior quality and reliability, but they might start with a ready-assembled drivetrain and upgrade pinions as they develop their tuning knowledge.
- What is the difference between short and long pinions? — Pinion length affects how the gear meshes with your spur gear. This short pinion (13.0mm overall length) is designed for specific vehicle configurations where space is limited or where the motor-to-spur distance is shorter. Always verify your vehicle's specifications before purchasing to ensure the short design is correct for your setup.
- How often should I replace my pinion gear? — The lifespan depends on driving intensity, terrain, and maintenance. The Corally's hardened steel construction extends lifespan significantly. Inspect regularly for tooth wear or damage; replace if you notice grinding, vibration, or any visual damage to the teeth. Properly maintained, quality pinions like this Corally gear can provide hundreds of hours of reliable service.
