With a customer rating of 4.8 out of 5, this component has earned trust among serious RC hobbyists across the UK and beyond.
This super-tough steel 20T MOD1 pinion gear is engineered to withstand the extreme conditions that modern brushless RC vehicles demand. Whether you're a weekend basher pushing your truck to its limits or a competitive racer fine-tuning every aspect of your setup, this pinion gear delivers the durability and precision you need. The inclusion of two M4x4mm set screws ensures secure fitment, while the precision-manufactured design guarantees smooth operation and long-lasting performance. It's the kind of essential spare component that every serious RC car UK owner should keep in their toolkit.
For anyone running a ready to run brushless RC truck or buggy from ARRMA's current range, this pinion gear is a critical component that deserves your attention. Understanding when to replace your pinion gear and choosing quality components like this one can significantly extend the lifespan of your RC transmission system and improve overall performance consistency.
Key Features
- Strong and durable steel construction — This pinion gear is manufactured from high-quality steel that provides exceptional strength and durability, making it capable of handling the extreme forces and stresses generated by high-performance brushless motors and demanding off-road conditions without premature wear or failure.
- Precision manufactured tooth profile — The teeth are engineered with precision to ensure smooth, efficient meshing with your spur gear, reducing noise, minimising energy loss, and delivering consistent power transmission during acceleration and cruising for optimal RC performance.
- Double set screw holes for extra security — The precision manufactured double set screw holes allow you to fit M4x4mm set screws on either side of the motor shaft, providing redundant securing points that prevent unwanted gear slip and keep your pinion firmly locked in place even during high-power runs and aggressive cornering.
- Fits 5mm motor shaft — This gear is specifically designed to fit standard 5mm motor shafts found across ARRMA's brushless motor range, ensuring straightforward installation on compatible models without modification or adapter components.
- Includes essential mounting hardware — The package comes complete with two M4x4mm set screws, meaning you have everything required to install this gear securely on your motor shaft without needing to source additional fasteners.
Technical Performance
The 20T MOD1 pinion gear represents a critical component in the drivetrain of modern brushless RC vehicles. With 20 teeth, this gear works in conjunction with your vehicle's spur gear to determine your final drive ratio, directly affecting acceleration, top speed, and overall power delivery. The MOD1 specification refers to the module (tooth pitch) of the gear, which is a standardised measurement system in RC gear design that ensures compatibility with matching spur gears. Manufactured from high-quality steel rather than cheaper plastic alternatives, this pinion delivers superior durability and longevity when used in brushless RC trucks, buggies, and vehicles like the ARRMA 1/7 Mojave 6S, 1/8 Kraton 6S, Notorious 6S, Outcast 6S, Talion 6S, and Typhon 6S models. The precision-manufactured tooth profile is engineered using modern manufacturing techniques to ensure each tooth is cut to exact specifications, eliminating run-out and ensuring perfect mesh with your spur gear. This level of precision is essential for smooth power transmission, reduced friction losses, and quieter operation. The double set screw mounting system with two M4x4mm fasteners provides redundant security, preventing the gear from slipping on the 5mm motor shaft even under maximum power delivery or during aggressive acceleration and cornering manoeuvres. In the context of a complete brushless RC system, this pinion works with your brushless motor, electronic speed controller (ESC), and spur gear to create the final transmission ratio that determines your vehicle's performance characteristics.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Which ARRMA vehicles does the 20T Mod1 pinion gear fit? — This pinion gear is designed as a direct replacement part for multiple ARRMA models, including the 1/7 Mojave 6S 4x4 RTR, 1/7 Mojave 6S EXB 4x4 Roller, 1/8 Kraton 6S 4x4 RTR, 1/8 Kraton 6S 4x4 Roller, 1/8 Notorious 6S 4x4 RTR, 1/8 Outcast 6S 4x4 RTR, 1/8 Outcast 6S Limited Edition, 1/8 Talion 6S 4x4 RTR, and 1/8 Typhon 6S 4x4 RTR. Always verify your specific model before purchasing to ensure compatibility.
- Why would I need to replace my pinion gear? — Over time, the teeth on a pinion gear can wear down through continuous use, particularly in demanding brushless RC applications. Worn teeth result in poor mesh with your spur gear, causing slipping, noise, vibration, and eventual drivetrain failure. Replacing your pinion gear when worn restores smooth power transmission, improves performance, and prevents damage to connected components.
- What is the benefit of steel over plastic pinion gears? — Steel pinion gears are significantly more durable and stronger than plastic alternatives, making them ideal for brushless RC applications where high torque and continuous high-speed operation place extreme demands on drivetrain components. Steel gears resist wear better, last longer, and handle aggressive driving without degradation, making them the preferred choice for serious RC enthusiasts.
- How do I install the 20T Mod1 pinion gear? — This is a direct replacement component that fits onto a 5mm motor shaft. Slide the gear onto your motor shaft, align the set screw holes, and secure it using the included M4x4mm set screws on both sides of the motor shaft. Ensure the gear is seated properly and the set screws are tightened securely to prevent slipping during operation.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — This is a replacement transmission component intended for users who already own an ARRMA vehicle and understand basic RC drivetrain maintenance. It is not a standalone product for beginners without RC experience. However, if you already own a compatible ARRMA ready to run brushless RC truck or buggy, keeping spare pinion gears as part of your maintenance kit is a sensible practice.
- What is MOD1 and why does it matter? — MOD1 refers to the gear module, which is a standardised measurement system indicating the pitch and size of the teeth. MOD1 gears are designed to mesh precisely with MOD1 spur gears. Using the correct module specification ensures proper mesh geometry, smooth power transmission, and compatibility with your vehicle. Mixing different modules will result in poor performance.
