Key Features
- Strong and Durable Steel Construction — Manufactured from premium steel, this pinion gear is engineered to withstand the extreme stresses of high-performance RC driving, ensuring long-lasting reliability even during aggressive acceleration, hard cornering, and sustained high-speed runs typical of modern brushless RC vehicles.
- Precision CNC Manufacturing — Every tooth profile is machined to exacting tolerances using computer numerical control technology, guaranteeing perfect tooth engagement with your spur gear and delivering smooth, efficient power transmission without noise, vibration, or inefficiency that could drain your RC battery prematurely.
- Optimised Tooth Profile — The precisely manufactured tooth geometry ensures smooth operation throughout the entire rev range, minimising gear slip and maximising grip delivery to the wheels, which translates to more responsive handling and better traction control in competitive RC driving scenarios.
- Precision Set Screw Hole — The accurately drilled and tapped M3 hole is manufactured to specification, ensuring the included M3 x 4mm set screw grips the motor shaft securely without stripping or loosening, maintaining consistent gear alignment and preventing the common problem of mid-run gear slippage.
- 3.2mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — Designed specifically for 3.2mm motor shafts, this gear guarantees a perfect fit on compatible ARRMA brushless motors, eliminating the guesswork and ensuring your transmission setup is correctly matched from the outset.
- 15-Tooth Configuration — The 15-tooth count offers a balanced gearing option that provides good acceleration whilst maintaining reasonable top-speed potential, making it suitable for mixed-terrain driving and general-purpose RC use across diverse track conditions.
- Mod 0.5 Pitch Specification — This industry-standard gear pitch ensures compatibility with matched spur gears and guarantees proper mesh geometry, preventing premature wear and ensuring your RC transmission delivers consistent performance throughout the life of the components.
Technical Performance
This ARRMA pinion gear represents the pinnacle of transmission component engineering for 1/16 scale RC vehicles. The CNC manufacturing process ensures that every tooth maintains identical geometry and profile, eliminating the inconsistencies sometimes found in injection-moulded plastic gears or lower-quality steel alternatives. The Mod 0.5 pitch specification is the industry standard for 1/16 scale ARRMA models, providing optimal mesh characteristics when paired with correctly-specified spur gears. At 15 teeth, this pinion gear offers a balanced compromise between acceleration response and top-speed capability, making it suitable for a wide variety of driving styles and track layouts. The 3.2mm bore has been precisely machined to ensure a snug fit on motor shafts, whilst the included M3 x 4mm set screw provides the clamping force needed to prevent gear slippage during peak torque events. The steel construction provides superior wear resistance compared to plastic alternatives, extending the service life of your transmission and reducing the frequency of replacement cycles. When installed correctly with appropriate threadlocker on the set screw, this gear will deliver thousands of hours of reliable service in typical RC driving conditions. The precision-engineered tooth profile minimises backlash and ensures maximum efficiency in power transmission, which is particularly important in brushless RC systems where every percentage point of drivetrain efficiency directly impacts runtime and battery performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What ARRMA RC models is this 15T pinion gear compatible with? — This gear is a direct fit for ARRMA 1/16 Mini Kraton 3S models, including the battery and charger variants (C-ARA2508ST1, C-ARA2508T1, and C-ARA2508ST2). Compatibility with other ARRMA models should be verified by checking your vehicle's specifications or consulting the manufacturer's parts diagrams, as different scales and platforms may utilise alternative gear specifications.
- Why should I choose an authentic ARRMA pinion gear over third-party alternatives? — Genuine ARRMA components are engineered and manufactured to precise specifications that match your vehicle's original transmission setup, ensuring perfect compatibility, optimal performance, and reliable durability. Authentic parts carry manufacturer backing and are proven through extensive quality control processes, whereas aftermarket alternatives may offer inconsistent tooth profiles or material quality that compromises performance.
- How often will I need to replace this pinion gear? — With proper installation and maintenance, an ARRMA steel pinion gear typically provides thousands of hours of service. Replacement frequency depends on driving intensity, terrain conditions, maintenance practices (such as keeping the transmission clean and properly lubricated), and whether you're running your RC car on rough terrain or dedicated tracks. Regular inspection for visible wear or damage will indicate when replacement is necessary.
- What is Mod 0.5 gear pitch and why does it matter? — Mod 0.5 (module 0.5) is an industry-standard gear pitch specification that defines the tooth geometry and size relative to the gear diameter. Using a pinion gear with the correct pitch specification is critical for proper mesh with your spur gear, ensuring smooth operation, minimising noise and vibration, and preventing accelerated wear or catastrophic failure that could occur with mismatched gear sets.
- Can I use this gear with a different size spur gear to change my RC car's gearing ratio? — Yes, gearing ratios can be adjusted by changing either the pinion gear or spur gear, but both components must maintain the same Mod 0.5 pitch specification to achieve proper mesh geometry. Lowering the pinion tooth count increases top speed whilst reducing acceleration, whilst higher tooth counts provide quicker acceleration but reduce maximum speed. Consult ARRMA's gearing recommendations or experienced RC communities for guidance on appropriate gear ratios for your driving style and terrain.
- What size motor shaft does this gear fit? — The 3.2mm bore is specifically designed for 3.2mm motor shafts, which is the standard specification for ARRMA 1/16 scale brushless motors. Always verify your motor shaft diameter before ordering, as incorrect bore sizes will result in poor fit and potential gear slippage or damage.
- Do I need any tools or expertise to install this pinion gear? — Installation is straightforward for anyone with basic mechanical knowledge. You'll need a small hex key to remove your existing pinion gear's set screw, then slide the new gear onto the motor shaft and secure it with the included M3 x 4mm set screw. Many RC enthusiasts recommend using threadlocker compound on the set screw to prevent loosening during use. If you're unfamiliar with RC maintenance, your local RC shop in the UK can assist with installation.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Yes, this is an excellent beginner-level replacement part. Pinion gears are consumable components that eventually require replacement, and having a spare on hand is good practice. Installation is simple enough for novice RC enthusiasts to attempt, making this an ideal entry point into basic RC transmission maintenance and understanding how gearing affects vehicle performance.
- How does tooth count affect my RC car's performance? — Lower tooth counts (like 13T or 14T) increase top speed but reduce acceleration, whilst higher counts (like 16T or 17T) provide quicker acceleration but limit maximum speed. The 15T configuration offers a balanced middle ground suitable for general-purpose driving. Performance differences become more noticeable with brushless motors where power delivery is more aggressive than brushed systems.
