E-flite 4-Site 3D FF RC Airplane Introduction

In the early 2000s, "flat foamy" models were extremely popular because they could be scratch-built from foam sheets you could buy in many stores. Today, most foam models are fully moulded sport and scale aircraft – and few can match the unique capabilities and performance of flat foam models, especially those designed and built for aerobatic plus 3D flying! The E-flite® 4-Site 3D FF (Flat Foamy) 800mm is based on the original F3P and UMX models and is a biplane alternative to the popular Eratix 3D FF that's taken the market by storm. It's perfect for experienced pilots who already build and fly flat foam models, intermediate pilots who are interested in them but don't want to undertake a complicated build, and less experienced pilots who have always wanted to try but were intimidated by the extra effort and skills required to buy, build and fly such a model. The 4-Site 3D FF is the easiest to fly, most convenient, and best value in a biplane flat foamy model yet!

E-flite 4-Site 3D FF RC Airplane Overview

The E-flite® 4-Site 3D FF (Flat Foamy) 800mm offers the aggressive aerobatic plus smooth sport and slow-flying performance of similar class models – without all the hassles of buying components for and building one! It bolts and snaps together so it can be ready to fly in less time than it takes to charge a battery compared to the glue, tape, and many hours it usually takes to assemble other "flat foamy" aircraft. It's a biplane alternative to the best-selling Eratix 3D FF with a shorter wingspan but more wing area for lower wing loading overall. Its lightweight yet extremely durable EPP airframe is mostly factory-assembled and includes three durable and precise metal-geared servos on all the control surfaces. The factory-installed power system features a 3S-compatible brushless motor matched to a Spektrum Avian Smart ESC compatible with Smart and non-Smart 850–1000mAh batteries. The BNF Basic version is also equipped with an AR630+ receiver to deliver real-time telemetry data, enhanced AS3X+, and optional-use SAFE Select technologies. It's small enough and light enough to be flown indoors in gymnasiums and other similar spaces or outdoors in yards, parks, and sports fields, making it a versatile addition to the hangar for a wide range of pilots!

E-flite 4-Site 3D FF RC Airplane Features

  • Extremely durable yet lightweight, high-density EPP airframe with carbon fiber and composite reinforcements

Skill Level 3 – Experience Required for the E-flite 4-Site 3D FF RC Airplane
Skill Level 3 – Experience Required

Skill Level 3 aircraft, like this one, are suitable for more experienced RC pilots with the skills to assemble, set up, and fly similar class models. This PNP version requires more experience and skills to assemble and fly than the BNF Basic version because you must install a receiver that does not already include properly tuned AS3X+ and SAFE Select technologies. It's not a suitable first-ever RC aircraft for new pilots or first-ever aerobatic/3D model for low-time RC pilots. You should have the experience and skills necessary to assemble and successfully fly models like the E-flite UMX Ultrix, UMX Timber X, T-28 Trojan 1.1m, Sportix 1.1m, Timber X 1.2m, or other similar class models before attempting to fly the 4-Site 3D FF PNP version.

Overview

The E-flite 4-Site 3D FF (Flat Foamy) 800mm PNP is a biplane alternative to the extremely popular Eratix 3D FF that brings together aggressive aerobatic capability with smooth sport and slow-flying performance. This is the easiest to buy, assemble and fly biplane flat foamy model available today, capable of slow cruising, sport flying, basic and all-out 3D aerobatics without the hassles of purchasing components separately and undertaking a complicated build. If you're looking for a ready-to-fly brushless RC plane in the UK that combines performance with convenience, this is a model that delivers on both fronts.

This aircraft is perfect for experienced pilots who already build and fly flat foam models, intermediate pilots who are interested in them but don't want to undertake a complicated build, and less experienced pilots who have always wanted to try flat foam flying but were intimidated by the extra effort and skills required to buy, build and fly such a model. Based on the original F3P and UMX models, the 4-Site 3D FF represents a significant evolution in accessible high-performance aerobatic flying. The biplane configuration offers exceptional stability and control authority for 3D manoeuvres whilst maintaining the smooth handling characteristics that make flat foamy aircraft so enjoyable.

What sets this electric RC aeroplane apart is its combination of pre-assembled components, high-quality construction and exceptional value. You get a fully functional aircraft that requires no glue or tape assembly – simply snap the landing gear into place and you're ready to progress towards your first flight. This is the most convenient option in a biplane flat foamy model available to UK hobbyists, whether you're upgrading from smaller models or stepping into aerobatic flying for the first time.

Key Features

  • Extremely durable yet lightweight EPP airframe with carbon fibre and composite reinforcements — The high-density EPP foam construction combined with strategically placed carbon fibre and composite reinforcements provides exceptional durability for recovery from mistakes whilst keeping overall weight to a minimum, which is critical for slow-flight performance and 3D capability. This material choice means you can push the model hard without fear of catastrophic damage from hard landings or crashes.
  • Factory-finished in high-contrast, high-visibility trim scheme for excellent in-flight orientation — The factory paint finish features carefully chosen colours that contrast sharply with each other, making it far easier to judge the aircraft's attitude and orientation during flight, especially during fast 3D manoeuvres or when flying at distance. This is a practical benefit that makes the model safer and more enjoyable to fly.
  • Snap-in landing gear for quick installation, removal and replacement — Unlike traditional landing gear that requires gluing or screwing, the landing gear on the 4-Site 3D FF simply snaps into place, allowing you to install or remove it in seconds without tools. This means you can easily swap between wheeled and skid configurations, or quickly replace damaged gear without lengthy repairs.
  • Specially tuned brushless motor factory-installed and ready for use — The 2408-1300Kv Spektrum brushless outrunner motor is pre-installed, balanced and tuned specifically for this airframe, meaning there's no guesswork or fine-tuning required. You can unpack the model and start flying with compatible 3S batteries without any motor setup.
  • 30-amp Spektrum Avian Smart ESC provides real-time telemetry data — The included Spektrum Avian 30-Amp Smart Lite brushless electronic speed controller isn't just a basic ESC; it continuously monitors and transmits real-time battery voltage, current draw, RPM and other critical flight data to compatible Spektrum receivers and transmitters, allowing you to manage flight times safely and optimise performance.
  • Three factory-installed digital and metal-geared servos for all control surfaces — Rather than leaving you to source and install servos, the 4-Site 3D FF comes with three Spektrum sub-micro digital, metal-geared servos pre-installed and ready to control the aircraft's ailerons, elevator and rudder. Metal gearing provides durability for aggressive aerobatic flying, whilst digital servo technology offers faster response and more precise control authority.
  • Fast and easy assembly with no glue or tape required — Unlike traditional flat foamy scratch builds or even some semi-built kits, the 4-Site 3D FF bolts and snaps together in less than one hour with no adhesives needed, making assembly straightforward and accessible to pilots of various experience levels.

Technical Performance

The E-flite 4-Site 3D FF combines carefully engineered specifications to deliver reliable, accessible aerobatic performance. At 800mm wingspan and 917mm in length, this is a compact biplane that remains manageable for transport and field operations while providing sufficient wing area for stable, controlled flight at a wide range of speeds. The aircraft weighs just 447 grams without battery and 519 grams with the recommended 3S 850mAh battery, positioning it perfectly in the ultra-micro category with sufficient inertia for predictable handling. The 2408-1300Kv brushless motor, a standard size proven across numerous high-performance electric RC aeroplanes, delivers adequate power for aggressive 3D manoeuvres whilst maintaining efficiency with 3S lithium polymer batteries. The 30-amp Spektrum Avian Smart Lite ESC is more than adequate for the motor's power requirements and provides the real-time monitoring capabilities that let you track battery condition, motor temperature and current draw throughout each flight. The aircraft requires a 3S 11.1V LiPo battery with IC2 connector in the 850–1000mAh range, balancing weight and flight duration perfectly for this airframe class. The centre of gravity range is specified at 87mm with acceptable variation from 80–91mm, providing clear guidance for proper aircraft trim. With a 9 x 4.6 propeller and the tuned motor, the 4-Site 3D FF achieves smooth cruise at minimal throttle, sport-flying performance at mid-range power, and genuine 3D aerobatic capability when full throttle is applied. The all-up configuration requires just a full-range 4+ channel transmitter and receiver to be flight-ready, making this one of the most straightforward brushless RC aeroplanes available in the UK hobby market.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the E-flite 4-Site 3D FF suitable for intermediate pilots new to flat foamy aerobatic flying? — Yes, absolutely. Whilst the model carries a Skill Level 4 classification from the manufacturer, indicating it's designed for experienced pilots, the Plug-and-Play nature of assembly and the forgiving flat foam construction make it an excellent stepping stone for ambitious intermediate pilots who want to explore 3D flying without undertaking a full scratch build. The pre-installed electronics and factory finishing eliminate common assembly challenges, allowing you to focus on learning to fly the model rather than building it.
  • What battery does the E-flite 4-Site 3D FF need? — The aircraft requires a 3S 11.1V LiPo battery in the 850–1000mAh capacity range with an IC2 connector. This battery chemistry is standard across the UK RC hobby market, widely available, and affordable. A 3S 850mAh battery is recommended as the baseline, though 950–1000mAh batteries will provide slightly longer flight times with minimal weight penalty. Batteries with IC2 connectors can be sourced from multiple suppliers, or you can adapt a battery with a different connector using a suitable IC2 adapter.
  • What is the difference between the 4-Site 3D FF and the Eratix 3D FF? — The 4-Site 3D FF is a biplane configuration, meaning it has two sets of wings stacked vertically, whilst the Eratix 3D FF is a monoplane with a single wing. The biplane layout on the 4-Site offers some pilots a preference for handling characteristics and control authority, and the biplane aesthetic appeals to those interested in vintage aerobatic aircraft design. Both models share similar electrical components and overall performance envelope, but the biplane wing configuration provides a different flying experience.
  • How long does assembly take on the 4-Site 3D FF? — Assembly time is approximately less than one hour from unboxing to ready for radio binding. This is significantly faster than flat foamy scratch builds, which can take many hours or even days. The snap-together construction and pre-installed motor, ESC and servos eliminate the most time-consuming assembly steps, though you'll still need to carefully set the centre of gravity and balance the propeller before first flight.
  • Can I use this model indoors? — The 4-Site 3D FF is primarily designed for outdoor flying. Whilst its lightweight construction and slow-flight capability might suggest indoor potential, the 800mm wingspan makes it too large for most indoor spaces, and the model's aerobatic design assumes outdoor wind conditions and open sky. However, in very large indoor venues such as sports halls or aeroplane hangars, it could potentially be flown with caution.
  • What radio system does the 4-Site 3D FF work with? — The model requires a full-range 4+ channel transmitter and receiver. Spektrum systems are the natural choice given that the aircraft uses Spektrum electronics, and these integrate telemetry data from the Smart ESC, but any compatible full-range 4+ channel radio with appropriate receiver will work. Popular UK options include Spektrum DSM2/DSMX, FrSky, Futaba and others.
  • Is the 4-Site 3D FF waterproof? — The model is not waterproof. Whilst the EPP foam construction is inherently water-resistant and can survive brief exposure to moisture, the electronic components including the motor, ESC and servos are not sealed against water ingress. This aircraft should be flown in dry conditions and not intentionally water-landed.
