Overview

The Spektrum H6060 Standard Digital Mid Torque Ultra-Speed Metal Gear Heli Tail Servo is a purpose-built tail rotor servo specifically engineered for helicopter models up to 500 size. This budget-friendly digital servo represents exceptional value for RC helicopter enthusiasts in the UK looking for reliable tail control without breaking the bank. Whether you're flying the popular Blade Fusion 480 or any other high-performance heli model in this size class, the H6060 delivers the performance characteristics you need for smooth, responsive tail authority and stable flight dynamics.

Designed with helicopter pilots in mind, this servo combines impressive speed with adequate torque to manage tail rotor authority effectively across the flight envelope. The H6060 features a powerful coreless motor paired with a durable fully metal gear train, housed in a standard servo case that fits seamlessly into most 500-size helicopter designs. If you're building an RC helicopter in the UK or upgrading an existing model, the H6060 offers the precise control characteristics that make the difference between confident, stable flight and unpredictable behaviour in the air.

This servo is perfect for both experienced RC helicopter pilots and those new to the hobby who want proven Spektrum quality at an accessible price point. The combination of ultra-fast response time and metal gear durability means you get a servo that performs consistently and reliably through countless flights, whether you're practising basic manoeuvres or attempting advanced aerobatic routines.

Key Features

  • Ultra-Fast 0.056 Second Speed at 6.0V — The H6060 achieves blazing-fast servo response time, which is absolutely critical for tail rotor control on helicopter models where quick, precise corrections are essential for maintaining heading stability and executing smooth turns.
  • 160oz Torque Rating — With 86oz of maximum torque at 6.0V operation, this servo delivers sufficient power to command the tail rotor effectively on 500-size helicopters, ensuring responsive authority without lag or hesitation during aggressive manoeuvres.
  • Durable Fully Metal Gear Train — The metal gear construction provides superior longevity and durability compared to plastic alternatives, meaning your servo will withstand the repeated stresses of helicopter tail rotor control through many flight sessions without premature wear or failure.
  • Coreless Motor Technology — The integrated coreless motor design enables the extremely fast response times needed for tail control, delivering the quick servo response that prevents tail wag and hunting which can occur with slower servos on helicopters.
  • Standard Servo Size — Built into a compact standard case, the H6060 fits cleanly into most 500-size helicopter frames without requiring custom mounting brackets or modifications, making installation straightforward for most RC helicopter models.
  • 10-Inch (255mm) Connector Wire — The extended connector wire reduces the need for additional extensions, simplifying your helicopter's internal wiring and reducing potential points of failure or electrical resistance in your servo control line.
  • 23 Tooth Spline Output — The servo features a standard 23-tooth spline output that is widely compatible with most helicopter servo arms and linkage systems, ensuring you'll have no compatibility issues when installing this servo in your model.
  • Dual Bushing or Bearing Support — The bearing-supported output spline provides smooth, low-friction rotation and long-term durability, maintaining precise servo centering and reducing mechanical slop in your tail rotor control system.
  • Universal Servo Connector — The universal connector type ensures broad compatibility with standard RC receiver outputs, making this servo suitable for use with most Spektrum and other major brand RC helicopter receivers available in the UK.
  • Wide Operating Voltage Range (4.8V to 6.0V) — The servo operates reliably across the full range of standard receiver battery voltages, from 4-cell NiMH packs through to 2S LiPo batteries, giving you flexibility in powering your helicopter system.

Technical Performance

The H6060 represents excellent engineering focused specifically on the demands of helicopter tail rotor control. At 6.0V, this servo generates 86 ounce-inches of torque (equivalent to 6.2 kilogram-centimetres), which provides sufficient power to manage tail authority on 500-size helicopter models whilst maintaining the lightweight footprint necessary for these delicate aircraft. The ultra-fast 0.056-second response time at 6.0V is a critical specification for helicopter applications—tail rotor servos must respond almost instantaneously to pilot input to prevent tail wagging and maintain heading stability, and the H6060 excels in this regard. The servo rotates through a 120-degree movement range, which is standard for tail control applications. Built from durable materials with a plastic case and fully metal gears, the H6060 weighs just 2.2 ounces (62 grams), keeping the weight penalty minimal on your model. The servo measures 1.57 inches in length and height with a width of just 0.78 inches, fitting the compact standard servo category. Wire gauge is a sensible 22 AWG, providing sufficient current capacity for the servo's power requirements. The servo is a digital type, delivering the precise control and fast response times that digital technology provides compared to analogue alternatives. Operating voltage flexibility between 4.8V and 6.0V means you can use any standard receiver pack configuration, whether traditional NiMH 4-cell packs or modern 2S lithium polymer batteries that many UK RC helicopter pilots now prefer for their weight and performance advantages.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Spektrum H6060 suitable for 500-size RC helicopter models? — Yes, the H6060 is specifically designed and optimised for helicopter models in the 500-size category. The 86oz torque rating and ultra-fast 0.056-second response time make it ideal for this helicopter class, providing the performance characteristics needed for stable tail rotor control.
  • What operating voltage does the H6060 need? — The H6060 operates across the range of 4.8V to 6.0V, making it compatible with standard 4-cell NiMH receiver packs (4.8V nominal) and 2S lithium polymer batteries (7.4V nominal downregulated to 6.0V through your receiver BEC). You can use whichever power source your helicopter system employs.
  • How fast is the servo response? — The H6060 achieves an exceptionally fast 0.056 seconds at 6.0V operating voltage. This ultra-rapid response is essential for helicopter tail rotor control, where quick servo movement prevents tail hunting and allows the pilot to maintain precise heading stability during flight.
  • What is the difference between the H6060 and other helicopter tail servos? — The H6060 is a mid-torque, ultra-speed servo optimised specifically for tail control applications on smaller helicopters. Unlike cyclic servos which need higher torque for blade control, tail servos prioritise fast response time, and the H6060 delivers 0.056-second performance. The 86oz torque rating is sufficient for tail rotor authority without the bulk and weight of higher-torque servos.
  • Is this a digital or analogue servo? — The H6060 is a fully digital servo, which means it offers superior precision, faster response times, and more consistent performance compared to analogue technology. Digital servos are the standard choice for modern RC helicopter control.
  • What connector type does the H6060 use? — The servo features a universal servo connector, which is the standard 3-pin connector used across most major RC manufacturers. This ensures compatibility with Spektrum receivers and most other brand receivers widely available in the UK market.
  • Will the 10-inch connector wire be long enough for my helicopter? — The 10-inch (255mm) connector wire is generous for most standard helicopter installations, reducing or eliminating the need for extension leads. However, if your helicopter frame requires extra cable length, servo extension leads are readily available and inexpensive if needed.
  • What is the servo weight and will it affect my helicopter's weight budget? — At just 2.2 ounces (62 grams), the H6060 is extremely lightweight, making it suitable for weight-conscious 500-size helicopter builds. The compact standard servo size also contributes minimal physical bulk to your airframe.
  • Can I use the H6060 for cyclic control instead of tail control? — Whilst the H6060 is specifically optimised for tail rotor control, the H6050 is Spektrum's dedicated cyclic servo, offering higher torque at the expense of slightly slower speed. For optimal performance, use the H6060 for tail control as designed.
