Key Features
- Digital Amplifier Technology — The servo incorporates a sophisticated digital amplifier that provides superior accuracy, response and holding torque compared to conventional analogue servo designs. This means your control inputs are executed with greater precision, resulting in smoother, more predictable flight characteristics, particularly important when flying aggressive 3D manoeuvres or maintaining stable hover in a helicopter.
- Exceptional Speed Performance — With a response time of just 0.11 seconds at 60 degrees on 4.8V power (improving to 0.09 seconds at 6.0V), the DS76 delivers the lightning-fast control response required for dynamic 3D flying and helicopter operations. This rapid response time means less lag between your control input and the model's physical response, crucial for precision flying.
- High Torque Output — The servo generates 24.2 oz-in of torque at 4.8V, increasing to 28.0 oz-in at 6.0V. This substantial torque ensures the servo can handle control surfaces with authority and precision, whether you're applying aggressive 3D throws or managing the demands of micro-helicopter flight control, all without the servo being overwhelmed or losing positional accuracy under load.
- Precise Centring Capability — Centring accuracy better than 1 degree ensures that control surfaces return to precisely neutral every time, eliminating drift and providing the stable baseline essential for fine-tuned flight control. This precision is particularly important in helicopter applications where even small deviations from neutral can affect stability and control response.
- Ultra-Lightweight Construction — At just 7.6 grams, the DS76 is specifically engineered for weight-critical applications where every gram matters. The compact dimensions of 23.0 x 11.5 x 24.0 mm allow installation in tight spaces within micro airframes whilst the low weight preserves precious battery capacity for extended flight times rather than wasted on servo mass.
- Universal Connector Compatibility — The servo features a universal connector design compatible with receivers from all major RC brands, ensuring straightforward installation whether you're building a completely new model or replacing servos in an existing airframe. No adapter cables or modifications are required in most installations.
- Complete Hardware Package — Each servo includes comprehensive mounting hardware and multiple servo arms, including an extra-long 3D servo arm designed for extreme throws. This means you have everything needed for installation straight from the box, with the 3D arm option providing the extended range of motion sometimes required for high-performance aerobatic flying.
- Coreless Motor Design — The coreless motor architecture delivers rapid acceleration and response whilst running cooler than traditional designs. This contributes to both the servo's exceptional speed and its efficiency, reducing heat generation during extended flight sessions and improving overall reliability during demanding operations.
Technical Performance
The DS76 represents the pinnacle of sub-micro servo engineering, combining cutting-edge digital amplifier technology with proven mechanical design. At the heart of the servo sits a high-performance coreless motor that delivers the speed and efficiency necessary for the demanding world of micro-scale RC flying. The motor is paired with nylon gearing, which strikes the perfect balance between durability and weight, whilst maintaining the precision necessary for fine control adjustments. The servo operates across a 4.8V to 6.0V range, providing flexibility in power system design and allowing operators to dial in performance characteristics to suit their specific model and flying style. The idle current draw of just 27 mA at 4.8V means minimal power drain when the servo is not actively moving, preserving battery capacity for actual flight time. Under maximum load conditions, the servo draws 473 mA, indicating the substantial power available when needed whilst still remaining efficient overall. The digital amplifier circuit processes control signals at high frequency, eliminating many of the linearity issues associated with older analogue servo technology. This results in smoother control feel, more accurate tracking of control inputs, and reduced oscillation or hunting around neutral positions. For UK RC hobbyists building or maintaining electric park flyers, hand-launch gliders, micro 3D aircraft or mini helicopters, the DS76 offers performance characteristics that rival servos twice its weight, making it an essential upgrade component for serious micro-scale RC operations.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the E-flite DS76 suitable for helicopter applications? — Yes, absolutely. The DS76 is specifically designed for and recommended as a replacement servo for the Blade 450 3D helicopter. Its fast response time (0.11 seconds at 4.8V), precise centring accuracy (less than 1 degree) and high torque output make it ideal for the demanding control requirements of micro helicopters, where responsive cyclic and collective control is essential for stable flight and precise manoeuvring.
- What voltage should I use with the DS76? — The servo operates across a 4.8V to 6.0V range. Both voltages are practical, with 4.8V being standard for many 2S LiPo setups, while 6.0V (typically using a third-party BEC or a 2S system with a voltage regulator) provides improved speed and torque. At 6.0V, response time improves to 0.09 seconds and torque increases to 28.0 oz-in, making it the preferred option if your power system can support it safely.
- How much does the DS76 weigh and why does that matter? — The servo weighs just 7.6 grams (0.27 ounces). For micro and mini RC aircraft, servo weight is critical because heavier servos consume battery capacity that could otherwise be used for flight time or leave aircraft overweight. The DS76's minimal mass makes it ideal for weight-sensitive builds where every gram saved translates directly to improved performance, longer flight duration or improved climb capability.
- Will the DS76 work with my receiver? — Yes, in almost all cases. The servo features a universal connector compatible with receivers from major RC brands including Spektrum, Futaba, JR, Hitec and others. If you're using an older proprietary connector system, you may need a simple connector adapter, but these are widely available and inexpensive. Check your receiver's connector type before ordering if you have any concerns.
- What is the difference between the DS76 and older analogue servos? — The DS76 uses a digital amplifier circuit, which processes control signals at much higher frequency than analogue designs. This digital architecture provides superior linearity (more consistent response across the entire range of motion), better holding torque (resistance to external forces trying to move the control surface), and faster response to control inputs. The result is smoother, more predictable flight characteristics and improved handling of 3D manoeuvres, particularly noticeable in helicopter applications.
- Is the DS76 waterproof or weather-resistant? — The source documentation does not specify waterproof or weather-resistant ratings for the DS76. For water-based or extreme weather flying, you may wish to contact RC Model Shop directly for guidance on additional protection options or alternative servo recommendations.
- What size models is the DS76 designed for? — The DS76 is categorised as suitable for minis and micros — electric park flyers, hand-launch gliders, and micro to mini helicopters. These are typically models with wingspans of 18 to 36 inches (roughly 45 to 90 cm) for aircraft, or compact helicopter designs. The servo is too small and light for larger models, but delivers exceptional performance in the micro and mini scale categories.
- Can I use the DS76 as a replacement servo for my Blade 450 helicopter? — Yes, the DS76 is specifically recommended as a replacement servo for the Blade 450 3D helicopter. Its performance characteristics—speed, torque, centring accuracy and weight—make it an ideal drop-in upgrade or replacement option for this popular micro helicopter platform.
