Overview
The AXIAL Trail-Gear AR45P Rear Axle Housing is a genuine replacement part engineered for the SCX10III platform, one of the most popular 1/10 scale rock crawlers available in the UK RC market today. Whether you're rebuilding after a serious bash session or upgrading your existing setup, this officially licensed Trail-Gear component brings authentic off-road engineering to your scale RC experience. The AR45P designation represents serious axle capability, and this housing ensures your SCX10III maintains the durability and performance demanded by UK enthusiasts who take their rock crawling seriously.
This rear axle housing is officially licensed by Trail-Gear, meaning you're getting genuine engineering and build quality rather than a compromise component. If you're running an SCX10III—whether it's the 1987 Toyota SR5, Base Camp, Coyote, or Jeep JT Gladiator variant—this is the authentic replacement part you need when your original housing requires replacement or when you're looking to upgrade your drivetrain system. The housing is fully compatible with existing AR45P parts in the ecosystem, making it a straightforward installation for builders and bashers alike.
For UK RC car enthusiasts, whether you're a seasoned competitor tackling technical terrain or a weekend basher enjoying green lanes and rocky terrain, having genuine replacement parts on hand ensures minimal downtime and maximum reliability. The SCX10III has established itself as the go-to choice for serious scale crawling, and maintaining it with official components like this axle housing is the smart way to keep your rig in peak condition.
Key Features
- Officially Licensed Trail-Gear Component — This housing carries official Trail-Gear licensing, ensuring you're installing a genuine part designed by the engineers who developed the AR45P axle system, rather than an aftermarket alternative that may not provide the same fit, finish or durability.
- AR45P Specification — The AR45P designation indicates this is a serious, capable axle housing designed for demanding terrain and sustained off-road punishment, offering the strength needed for genuine rock crawling without unnecessary weight.
- SCX10III Specific Design — This housing is engineered specifically for the SCX10III platform, ensuring perfect fitment, alignment and integration with your existing chassis and drivetrain components without modification or adaptation.
- Compatible with Existing AR45P Parts — The housing integrates seamlessly with the broader AR45P component ecosystem, allowing you to mix and match genuine parts as you develop and refine your build over time.
- Portal Rear Axle Configuration — The portal axle design provides enhanced ground clearance and improved approach angles, critical for serious rock crawling and navigating steep, technical terrain where every millimetre of clearance matters.
- Includes Diff Cover — The housing comes complete with the rear axle diff cover, providing everything you need for a complete rear axle installation without hunting for additional components.
- Extensive Vehicle Compatibility — This housing works across the entire SCX10III range, fitting the Pro-Line K10, Base Camp, Coyote, Toyota SR5, Jeep Gladiator and Builders Kit variants, making it a universal upgrade for any SCX10III platform in the UK.
Technical Performance
The Trail-Gear AR45P represents genuine axle engineering scaled for 1/10 rock crawling. Portal axles have become the standard in serious off-road RC circles for good reason—they raise the entire axle housing above the wheel centreline, dramatically improving ground clearance and allowing steeper approach and departure angles that are essential for navigating rock formations, logs and other obstacles found on genuine rock crawling terrain. The housing integrates the differential unit and accepts standard SCX10III drivetrain components, creating a complete rear axle assembly. Build quality reflects genuine Trail-Gear engineering principles, with precision moulding and design that ensures consistent performance across multiple seasons of use. The included diff cover protects internal components from dust and debris encountered in genuine off-road environments, critical when you're driving through mud, sand and rocky terrain where contamination can rapidly degrade performance. This is a replacement housing rather than a complete assembled axle, meaning experienced builders can customise internal gearing and differential options to suit their specific terrain and driving style—whether that's locked differentials for maximum traction across obstacles or adjustable options for smoother highway-style crawling.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the AXIAL Trail-Gear AR45P Rear Axle Housing compatible with my SCX10III? — Yes, this housing is engineered specifically for the SCX10III platform and maintains compatibility across all variants including the 1987 Toyota SR5, Base Camp, Coyote, Pro-Line K10, Jeep JT Gladiator, and Builders Kit versions. It's designed to integrate seamlessly with existing AR45P components in your setup.
- What makes the portal axle design better for rock crawling? — Portal axles raise the axle housing above the wheel centreline, which increases ground clearance and improves approach and departure angles. This is essential for navigating steep terrain, rock formations and obstacles where traditional axle designs would catch and ground out. For UK rock crawlers tackling genuine technical terrain, this translates directly to better obstacle clearance and fewer rollovers.
- Do I need any additional parts to install this housing? — This is a housing component, so you'll need existing axle internals, differentials and drivetrain components from your current SCX10III setup or replacement parts compatible with the AR45P system. The housing itself includes the diff cover, so you have the main structural components for installation.
- Is this an official Axial part? — Yes, this is officially licensed by Trail-Gear and engineered to Axial specifications for the SCX10III platform. It's a genuine replacement part rather than an aftermarket alternative, ensuring proper fit and performance characteristics.
- What's included with this housing? — You receive the rear axle housing itself and the matching diff cover. Both are engineered as a complete assembly, so installation simply requires integrating your existing or replacement internal components into the housing.
