Overview
Protect your Traxxas X-Maxx suspension from the elements with the RPM Shock Shaft Guards in blue. These innovative aftermarket guards are essential upgrades for any serious RC enthusiast in the UK who wants to extend the lifespan of their monster truck. Whether you're bashing through rocky terrain, tackling dirt tracks, or competing in organised RC events, your shock shafts face constant assault from debris, rocks and dirt thrown up during aggressive driving. The RPM Shock Shaft Guards shield your suspension from these deteriorating elements, ensuring your Traxxas X-Maxx maintains peak performance for longer.
Rocks, dirt and debris striking your shock shafts lead to dents, dings and burrs, which inevitably lead to torn shock seals. Once your shock seals are compromised, you'll experience leaky shocks and dramatically reduced shock performance, forcing you into expensive seal replacements and shock rebuilds sooner than necessary. RPM Shock Shaft Guards solve this problem by creating a robust protective barrier that keeps your shocks clean and functioning at their best. These guards are compatible with stock Traxxas X-Maxx GTX shocks and represent a straightforward yet highly effective upgrade for maintaining long-term suspension health.
If you're running a Traxxas X-Maxx Belted 4WD Brushless RTR or X-Maxx Ultimate model, these blue shock guards are the perfect addition to your upgrade arsenal. They're sold in pairs and work as direct replacements for stock spring cups, making installation straightforward for RC enthusiasts of all experience levels. Designed with engineering excellence in mind, RPM Shock Shaft Guards deliver zero-friction protection that never compromises your suspension's working characteristics.
Key Features
- Over 100° of Frontal Protection — The front shield of the guard covers more than 100 degrees of frontal exposure, meaning rocks thrown from the front tyres or debris flying from competing vehicles won't strike your shock shafts. This comprehensive coverage is the key to preventing the dents, dings and burrs that compromise shock seal integrity.
- Zero Friction Protection Design — Unlike some protection devices that add drag or friction to your suspension, RPM Shock Shaft Guards never touch the working elements of your shocks. This means you get complete protection without any negative impact on suspension feel, responsiveness or performance characteristics.
- Increased Spring Cup Support — RPM increased the length of the tubular spring support of the spring cup by nearly 2mm (5/64 inches). This added length actively prevents the spring from jumping off the spring perch during aggressive driving or less than ideal track conditions, improving reliability during intense use.
- Stock Traxxas X-Maxx GTX Compatibility — These guards fit stock Traxxas X-Maxx GTX shocks (Traxxas part numbers #7761, #7761A, #7761G and #7761R) only, ensuring perfect fitment and function on your vehicle. They replace Traxxas #7764 spring cups and are sold in pairs.
- Open Back and Sides Design — The guards have open back and sides, which prevents debris from building up inside the guard itself. This intelligent design keeps your shocks clean whilst maintaining optimal airflow and preventing trapped mud or dirt accumulation.
- Simple Drop-In Installation — RPM Shock Shaft Guards use a simple design that replaces your stock shock spring cups with new ones featuring mounting holes for the thin but tough protective shield. This straightforward design makes installation accessible to most RC enthusiasts without requiring specialist tools or knowledge.
- Thin but Tough Construction — The shield rises up to the base of the shock body using durable, lightweight materials that completely block debris from striking the shock shaft whilst maintaining the overall weight and balance of your X-Maxx.
Technical Performance
The RPM Shock Shaft Guards represent a focused engineering solution to a real-world problem faced by RC monster truck owners throughout the UK. Rather than adding complex mechanisms or friction-inducing designs, RPM approached this challenge with elegant simplicity. The guards are manufactured to work seamlessly with the stock Traxxas X-Maxx GTX shock system, which is one of the most advanced suspension packages in 1/7 scale RC vehicles. By replacing the standard spring cups with upgraded versions that incorporate the protective shield mounting system, RPM has created a solution that requires no modification to your shocks themselves. The increased tubular spring support length of nearly 2mm provides measurable improvements in spring retention, particularly beneficial when running aggressive suspension setups or driving on rocky, technical terrain. The materials used are engineered to withstand the abuse typical of RC bashing whilst remaining light enough not to negatively impact suspension dynamics. The blue colour finish matches the visual aesthetic of many X-Maxx variants, and the protective barrier covers the critical frontal zone where 90% of debris strikes originate. Two packages are required to fully equip one X-Maxx vehicle, with each package containing guards for a single axle. This is a maintenance upgrade that prolongs the time between shock seal replacements and complete shock rebuilds, ultimately saving money and downtime for serious RC enthusiasts.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Will these shock guards fit my Traxxas X-Maxx? — These RPM Shock Shaft Guards are specifically designed to fit stock Traxxas X-Maxx GTX shocks only, including Traxxas part numbers #7761, #7761A, #7761G and #7761R. They have not been tested or guaranteed to fit any other shock systems for the X-Maxx, so verify your shock model before purchasing. They are compatible with Traxxas X-Maxx Belted 4WD Brushless RTR 8S Monster Truck models in all colours and the Traxxas X-Maxx Ultimate variants.
- How many packages do I need to buy? — Each package contains a pair of guards. Since the Traxxas X-Maxx has four shocks (two front and two rear), you will need to purchase two packages of RPM Shock Shaft Guards to completely equip your vehicle. One package protects the shocks on a single axle.
- Will these guards add weight or affect suspension performance? — No, RPM Shock Shaft Guards are designed as zero-friction protection devices that never touch the working elements of your suspension. The guards do not add any friction, drag or negative performance characteristics to your shocks. The thin but tough shield design keeps weight addition minimal whilst providing comprehensive protection.
- How do these guards help protect my shocks long-term? — Debris striking your shock shafts causes dents, dings and burrs that lead to torn shock seals. Once seals are compromised, shocks become leaky and lose their damping performance. By preventing debris from striking the shafts in the first place, these guards extend the lifespan of your shock seals and reduce the frequency of expensive shock rebuilds and seal replacements.
- What is the increased spring cup support and why does it matter? — RPM increased the length of the tubular spring support by nearly 2mm (5/64 inches). This added length prevents the spring from jumping off the spring perch during aggressive driving or challenging conditions. It's a practical engineering improvement that enhances reliability during intense use.
- Are these easy to install? — Yes, RPM Shock Shaft Guards are stock replacement items with a simple design. They replace your existing Traxxas #7764 spring cups, making installation straightforward for most RC enthusiasts. No specialist tools or modifications to your shocks are required.
- What colour are the guards? — These shock guards are finished in blue, which complements many Traxxas X-Maxx colour variants. The blue finish provides visual appeal whilst delivering the same protective functionality.
