Key Features
- 7075 Aluminium Construction — This pinion gear is manufactured from premium 7075 aluminium alloy, one of the strongest and most durable aluminium grades available, which provides excellent strength-to-weight ratio and resists wear during extended use in RC vehicles.
- M0.6 Module Specification — The M0.6 module sizing ensures universal compatibility with standard RC gearbox systems and other M0.6 pinion components, making this an ideal replacement or upgrade part for most electric and nitro RC cars.
- 15-Tooth Configuration — The 15-tooth count strikes the ideal balance in most RC setups, delivering responsive acceleration whilst maintaining reasonable top-end speed, making this versatile for both off-road racing and general purpose RC driving.
- Precision Engineering — Fastrax pinion gears are manufactured to tight tolerances, ensuring smooth meshing with your existing gearbox components and minimising vibration, noise and power loss during operation.
- Lightweight Design — The aluminium construction keeps rotating mass to a minimum, which improves acceleration response and reduces strain on your motor and drivetrain components over time.
- Cost-Effective Replacement — As a consumable wear item in RC vehicles, this pinion gear offers excellent value, allowing you to maintain peak performance without significant investment in your RC hobby.
Technical Performance
The Fastrax M0.6 15T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear represents the culmination of practical RC engineering experience and material science. The 7075 aluminium alloy used in its construction is aerospace-grade material, chosen specifically for its superior hardness and resistance to deformation under load. This means the gear teeth maintain their precise profile even after thousands of rotation cycles, ensuring consistent mesh engagement with your main gearbox gear. The M0.6 module specification is the global standard for most electric RC cars in the 1/10 and 1/8 scale categories, making this pinion gear universally compatible across the RC hobby. The 15-tooth configuration is the most versatile choice for general-purpose RC driving, providing sufficient gear ratio reduction to deliver strong torque off the line whilst allowing reasonable top speeds on straightaways. The precision-cut teeth are engineered to distribute loads evenly across the entire tooth surface, reducing point contact stress and extending the service life of both the pinion and your gearbox internals. This is the kind of component that might seem simple on the surface, but the engineering excellence that goes into its manufacture directly impacts how smoothly your RC car performs, how long your drivetrain lasts, and ultimately how enjoyable your RC experience becomes.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What RC cars is this pinion gear compatible with? — The M0.6 module specification makes this pinion gear compatible with virtually all standard electric and nitro RC cars in the 1/10 and 1/8 scale range that use M0.6 gearboxes. This includes vehicles from major manufacturers such as Traxxas, Losi, Team Associated, ARRMA, Tamiya, HPI and many others. Always verify your existing pinion gear's module specification before purchasing to ensure perfect compatibility with your RC setup.
- How often do I need to replace my pinion gear? — Pinion gears are consumable wear items that gradually wear down through normal use. In high-performance applications, racing, or aggressive bashing, you might replace a pinion gear every few months. For casual weekend driving, a quality aluminium pinion gear like this Fastrax component can last considerably longer. Inspect your pinion regularly for tooth wear, chipping or deformation, and replace it when you notice performance degradation or visible damage to the gear teeth.
- Why choose 7075 aluminium over steel? — Whilst steel pinion gears are harder and more durable, 7075 aluminium offers several advantages for RC applications. It is significantly lighter, which reduces rotational inertia and improves acceleration response. It dissipates heat more effectively, keeping your drivetrain cooler during extended running sessions. 7075 aluminium is also easier to machine to precise tolerances, ensuring better mesh engagement with your gearbox. For most RC hobbyists, the performance benefits of aluminium outweigh the marginal durability advantage of steel, particularly at this price point.
- What is the difference between 13T, 15T and 17T pinion gears? — The tooth count directly affects your RC car's performance characteristics. A 13-tooth pinion provides higher top speed and is better for high-speed racing on smooth surfaces. A 15-tooth pinion (this model) is the versatile middle ground, offering balanced acceleration and top speed for mixed conditions. A 17-tooth pinion reduces top speed but increases acceleration and torque, making it ideal for technical courses with tight corners or off-road terrain. Your choice depends on your track conditions, driving style, and whether you prioritise acceleration or maximum speed.
- Is this suitable for both electric and nitro RC cars? — Yes, this pinion gear is suitable for both electric and nitro-powered RC vehicles, as long as they use M0.6 gearboxes. The application is purely mechanical, so the pinion gear performs identically regardless of whether it is being driven by a brushless motor, brushed motor or nitro engine. Many UK RC hobbyists build mixed fleets with both electric and nitro models, and this versatility makes quality pinion gears like this Fastrax component valuable investments.
- How do I install this pinion gear? — Installation requires removing your RC car's motor assembly and accessing the pinion gear retaining clip or nut. Remove the old pinion gear by sliding it off the motor shaft. Slide the new Fastrax pinion gear onto the motor shaft, ensuring it is fully seated and straight. Reinstall the retaining clip or tighten the retaining nut securely, checking that the pinion meshes smoothly with your main gearbox gear without binding. The exact procedure varies by vehicle model, so consult your RC car's manual for specific instructions.
