Key Features
- High-Grade Aluminium 7075 Construction — This pinion gear is manufactured from aluminium 7075 alloy, one of the strongest and most durable aluminium compositions available in the RC hobby. This material choice ensures the gear can withstand the repeated stress and torque generated during acceleration, high-speed running and competitive driving without deforming, stripping or fracturing.
- 48DP Pitch Specification — The 48-pitch rating makes this gear compatible with the vast majority of modern RC electric car gearboxes and spur gear combinations. This industry-standard pitch ensures smooth meshing, reliable power transmission and minimal noise during operation.
- 16-Tooth Configuration — The 16-tooth count represents a common gearing option that affects your vehicle's top speed and acceleration characteristics. This tooth count is widely used across competitive and recreational RC platforms, giving you excellent compatibility with existing setups and allowing for predictable gear ratio calculations.
- Precision Manufacturing — Fastrax components are manufactured to tight tolerances, ensuring that each tooth is precisely formed for optimal mesh with spur gears. This precision engineering reduces wear patterns, extends component lifespan and maintains consistent drivetrain performance throughout the gear's service life.
- Essential Spare Part — As a frequently-replaced component in active RC use, having quality replacement pinion gears on hand is essential for any serious RC car UK hobbyist. Keeping spares available means you can quickly get back to racing or bashing without waiting for parts to be delivered.
- Lightweight and Efficient — Aluminium construction keeps the pinion gear lightweight compared to steel alternatives, reducing rotating mass and contributing to improved acceleration and overall drivetrain efficiency in your RC vehicle.
Technical Performance
The FASTRAX 48DP 16T ALUMINIUM 7075 PINION GEAR delivers the precision engineering and material quality that competitive RC drivers and casual enthusiasts alike depend on for reliable performance. Manufactured from aerospace-grade aluminium 7075 alloy, this pinion gear combines exceptional hardness and durability with the lightweight characteristics essential for RC applications. The 48-pitch specification aligns with standard RC drivetrain engineering, ensuring this gear works seamlessly with compatible spur gears found across most modern electric RC vehicles. The 16-tooth configuration is a versatile option suited to numerous RC car platforms and gearing strategies, whether you're optimising for maximum acceleration off the line or balanced mid-range performance. Unlike inferior pinion gears that can strip, crack or develop flat spots under load, this Fastrax component maintains tooth profile integrity through thousands of acceleration cycles, providing consistent performance and reliable power transmission. The precision-cut teeth ensure smooth engagement with spur gears, minimising vibration, noise and energy loss through the drivetrain. For RC enthusiasts in the UK looking to maintain peak performance or rebuild their vehicles after a season of heavy use, this pinion gear represents the quality standard you should expect from a reputable manufacturer.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the FASTRAX 48DP 16T pinion gear compatible with my RC car? — This 48-pitch gear is compatible with the vast majority of modern electric RC cars and trucks. The 48DP specification is an industry standard for electric RC drivetrains. However, you should verify your vehicle uses a 48-pitch drivetrain before purchasing. Check your vehicle's manual or measure your existing pinion gear pitch to confirm compatibility. If you're unsure, contact our team at RC Model Shop and we can help you identify the correct specification for your particular RC vehicle.
- What makes aluminium 7075 a better choice than steel for pinion gears? — Aluminium 7075 offers an excellent balance of strength, weight and cost-effectiveness. While steel pinion gears are slightly harder, aluminium 7075 provides more than sufficient durability for RC applications whilst keeping your vehicle lighter. The reduced rotating mass of an aluminium pinion gear improves acceleration response and overall drivetrain efficiency. Additionally, aluminium 7075 is easier to manufacture to precise tolerances, resulting in gears that mesh more smoothly with spur gears and generate less noise during operation.
- How often will I need to replace my pinion gear? — Pinion gear lifespan depends on your driving style, maintenance habits and the quality of your drivetrain setup. With proper maintenance, regular cleaning and lubrication, a quality aluminium 7075 pinion gear like this one can deliver thousands of hours of reliable service. Aggressive driving, poor lubrication or misaligned gears will accelerate wear. Most competitive drivers keep several spare pinion gears on hand for quick replacement during racing events or weekend bashing sessions.
- What is the difference between this 16-tooth gear and other tooth counts? — Tooth count directly affects your vehicle's gearing ratio and therefore its performance characteristics. A 16-tooth pinion pairs with common spur gear sizes (typically 60-80 teeth) to create specific gear ratios. More teeth on the pinion (higher numbers) results in higher top speed but lower acceleration, whilst fewer teeth provide better acceleration but lower top speed. The 16-tooth option represents a middle-ground that works well across numerous RC applications. Experiment with different tooth counts once you understand your preferred driving style and performance requirements.
- Is this suitable for competitive racing? — Absolutely. Fastrax components meet the quality standards expected by competitive RC drivers. This pinion gear is suitable for class racing, sprint racing and club events. Many UK RC competitors use Fastrax spare parts as their go-to components for reliability and proven performance. If you're competing at an advanced level, always check your racing class rules to ensure the component meets any specific requirements.
