If you're serious about RC car performance in the UK, understanding gear ratios is crucial. The pinion gear works in conjunction with your spur gear to determine your vehicle's acceleration and top speed characteristics. By selecting the correct tooth count for your pinion, you can optimise your RC car's performance for different track conditions, weather, and driving styles. The Corally M1.0 pinion range allows you to experiment with various ratios to find the perfect setup for your specific needs.
Key Features
- Special Hardened Steel Construction — The pinion is manufactured from hardened steel specifically chosen for its superior toughness and durability, ensuring it can withstand the extreme stresses of competitive RC racing without stripping, breaking, or wearing prematurely, even during intensive use and challenging terrain.
- CNC Cut Teeth for Perfect Geometry — Each tooth is precision-cut using CNC machinery to achieve perfect tooth shaping and concentricity, which eliminates run-out and ensures smooth, consistent engagement with your spur gear, resulting in quiet, efficient power transfer and reduced mechanical stress on your drivetrain.
- Ultra-Precise Tolerances — The gear features ultra-tight manufacturing tolerances that guarantee perfect concentricity and true running, eliminating vibration that can cause premature wear and loss of performance, and delivering the smooth operation that competitive RC racers require.
- Module MOD1 Standard — This pinion adheres to the MOD1 (Metric Pitch 1.0) standard, making it compatible with all RC vehicles designed for MOD1 gears, particularly 1/8 scale buggies, trucks, and truggies, giving you flexibility in your RC car setup.
- 5mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — The pinion is specifically designed to fit motor shafts with a 5.0mm diameter, a common standard in modern brushless RC motors used in 1/8 scale vehicles, ensuring a secure fit and reliable power transmission.
- Easy Identification Marking — Each pinion is clearly marked with the tooth number (19T in this case), allowing for quick and easy identification during setup, maintenance, and storage, eliminating confusion when you're managing multiple gears for different racing configurations.
- Manufactured in Europe — As a European-manufactured component, this pinion reflects the high engineering standards and quality control that European RC manufacturers are renowned for, giving you confidence in the product's reliability and performance.
- Precise Dimensions and Weight Distribution — With specific measurements including 13.00mm overall gear length and 6.20mm teeth width, this pinion has been engineered to fit perfectly within modern RC drivetrain designs whilst maintaining optimal balance and weight distribution for your vehicle.
Technical Performance
The Corally C-72719 represents the pinnacle of precision gear manufacturing for 1/8 scale RC vehicles. At 19 teeth in MOD1 specification, this pinion is ideal for balanced setups that offer a good compromise between acceleration and top speed across various track conditions. The hardened steel construction means this component will outlast softer alternative gears by a significant margin, making it an excellent investment for serious RC enthusiasts in the UK who demand reliability and longevity. The CNC-cut tooth profile ensures that power transfer from your brushless motor to the spur gear is smooth and efficient, minimising energy loss and maximising the acceleration and speed characteristics your vehicle can achieve. The ultra-precise manufacturing process creates a gear with exceptional concentricity, meaning the gear runs perfectly true on its axis, eliminating vibration, reducing noise, and preventing premature wear on adjacent components like your motor bearings and spur gear. The 5.0mm motor shaft diameter is standard across virtually all modern 1/8 scale brushless RC motors, ensuring compatibility with Hobbywing, Spektrum, and other premium ESC and motor combinations popular in the UK RC racing community. With a hex key size of 2.0mm for the set screw, installation and adjustment is straightforward for anyone with basic RC maintenance knowledge. Whether you're competing at a local racing club or practising at home, this pinion delivers the consistent, reliable performance that keeps your RC car running at its best.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Will this pinion fit my 1/8 scale RC car? — This pinion is compatible with all 1/8 scale RC cars equipped with MOD1 (Metric Pitch 1.0) gearing, including buggies, trucks, and truggies from manufacturers like Team Associated, Kyosho, and others. You must verify that your vehicle uses MOD1 gears and that your motor shaft is 5.0mm in diameter. Check your vehicle's manual or contact the manufacturer if you're unsure.
- What does the 19-tooth count mean for my RC car's performance? — The pinion tooth count directly affects your vehicle's gear ratio when combined with your spur gear. A 19-tooth pinion is mid-range in the standard selection, providing a balanced setup that offers decent acceleration without sacrificing top speed. If you want faster acceleration, choose a pinion with fewer teeth (lower number). If you want higher top speed, choose a pinion with more teeth (higher number).
- How do I install this pinion on my RC car? — The pinion slides onto your motor shaft and is secured using a set screw (2.0mm hex key). Slide the pinion onto the shaft, align it properly with your spur gear so the teeth mesh correctly, then tighten the set screw firmly but do not over-tighten, as this can damage the shaft or gear. Always refer to your vehicle manufacturer's instructions for proper installation procedure.
- Why is hardened steel better than other pinion materials? — Hardened steel pinions offer superior durability, strength, and wear resistance compared to softer materials or even some plastic alternatives. They maintain their tooth profile longer, resist stripping and breakage, and provide better overall reliability during intense racing. This means fewer replacements and more consistent performance over time, saving you money in the long run.
- How do I know which pinion tooth count I need? — Start by checking your vehicle's manual for recommended pinion sizes for different track conditions. Typically, smaller tooth counts (15-17T) suit 1/8 scale racing and speed-focused setups, whilst mid-range options like this 19T work well for balanced performance, and higher counts (21-25T) prioritise acceleration. You can experiment with different ratios to find what works best for your specific RC track.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is a high-quality component, pinion selection and installation require some RC knowledge. If you're completely new to RC cars, we recommend starting with a ready-to-run RTR vehicle that comes pre-geared. However, if you have an existing 1/8 scale RC car and want to upgrade or replace your pinion, this product is definitely suitable as long as you follow installation instructions carefully.
- What is the difference between MOD1 and other gear modules? — Module (MOD) refers to the tooth pitch standard. MOD1 gears have a 1.0mm pitch between teeth, making them slightly larger and stronger than MOD0.8 gears, but slightly smaller than MOD1.5. MOD1 is the standard for modern 1/8 scale RC racing vehicles, whilst MOD0.8 is more common in 1/10 scale cars. You must match your pinion module to your spur gear module for proper meshing.
