Overview

The Castle Creations Pinion - 19 Tooth - MOD1 - 5mm Shaft (M-CC6511) is a precision-engineered pinion gear designed for RC car enthusiasts across the UK who demand reliable drivetrain performance. Whether you're running a competitive RC car UK setup or enjoying weekend bashing, this MOD1 metric pitch pinion gear allows you to fine-tune your gearing for optimal performance. Castle Creations has earned a reputation for quality and consistency in the RC hobby, and this pinion gear exemplifies their commitment to excellence. The 19-tooth configuration offers a balanced approach to gearing changes, making it an essential component for anyone looking to optimise acceleration, top speed and overall drivetrain efficiency.

Gearing is one of the most important aspects of RC car setup, and choosing the right pinion gear can make a significant difference to how your vehicle performs on the track or terrain. The 19-tooth pinion provides a middle ground that helps you achieve the perfect balance between raw speed and responsive acceleration. This gear is compatible with drivetrains using MOD1 spur gears and motors featuring a 5mm output shaft, making it an excellent choice for a wide range of brushless RC cars and electric RC vehicles. If you're looking to upgrade or replace your existing pinion gear, this Castle Creations option delivers the precision and reliability you need.

RC Model Shop stocks this genuine Castle Creations component, and it's available for fast UK delivery. Whether you're a seasoned RC competitor fine-tuning your setup for the next race, or a dedicated enthusiast maintaining your RC car UK collection, this pinion gear is built to last and perform consistently. The 5mm bore ensures compatibility with standard motor shafts, and the MOD1 pitch guarantees smooth meshing with your spur gear for reduced wear, noise and vibration during operation.

Key Features

  • 19-tooth pinion configuration — This tooth count provides a balanced gearing option that helps you optimise both acceleration and top speed in your RC car setup, allowing you to achieve the ideal performance characteristics for your driving style and terrain.
  • MOD1 metric pitch — The MOD1 standard ensures precise engagement with MOD1 spur gears, creating a smooth and efficient mesh that minimises backlash, reduces noise during operation and extends the lifespan of both the pinion and spur gear.
  • 5mm motor shaft bore — This industry-standard shaft size is compatible with the vast majority of brushless motors used in modern RC cars, making it a versatile choice for many different RC vehicles and drivetrain configurations.
  • Castle Creations quality — Castle Creations is a recognised brand in the RC hobby, known for manufacturing high-quality electrical and mechanical components that deliver consistent performance and reliability season after season.
  • Precision engineering — Each pinion gear is manufactured to tight tolerances, ensuring accurate tooth profiles that result in smooth power delivery, minimal vibration and predictable handling characteristics in your RC car.
  • Easy installation — The standard 5mm bore accepts a simple set screw mounting system, allowing quick installation and removal for gear changes or maintenance without requiring specialised tools.

Technical Performance

The Castle Creations 19-tooth MOD1 pinion gear represents precision engineering at its finest, manufactured to exacting standards that ensure consistent performance across your RC car setup. The MOD1 metric pitch is a standard specification used throughout the RC industry, guaranteeing compatibility with a huge range of spur gears and drivetrain configurations. At 19 teeth, this pinion strikes an excellent balance in the gearing spectrum — it's not so low that it sacrifices top speed, and not so high that it compromises acceleration response. The 5mm bore accommodates standard brushless motor output shafts, making this a universal choice for electric RC cars, buggies and trucks across the UK market. When properly meshed with your spur gear and secured with a set screw (ideally using thread locker for security), this pinion delivers smooth, efficient power transfer with minimal noise and vibration. The quality of Castle Creations' manufacturing means you'll experience reliable, repeatable performance lap after lap, making this an excellent investment for both casual users and competitive RC racers. Correct gear mesh is essential — too tight and you'll increase wear and motor load; too loose and you'll lose efficiency — so take time to set the mesh correctly and you'll be rewarded with years of dependable service.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is this pinion gear suitable for my RC car? — The Castle Creations 19-tooth MOD1 pinion is compatible with any RC car setup that uses MOD1 spur gears and a brushless motor with a 5mm output shaft. Before purchasing, confirm that your current spur gear is MOD1 pitch and that your motor features the correct 5mm bore — mixing different gear pitches will result in poor meshing and potential drivetrain damage.
  • What is the difference between tooth counts on pinion gears? — Lower tooth counts (e.g. 17T, 18T) create higher gear ratios, resulting in faster top speed but less acceleration response. Higher tooth counts (e.g. 20T, 21T) create lower gear ratios, improving acceleration at the expense of top speed. The 19-tooth configuration offers a middle ground, making it an excellent all-rounder for most RC applications and driving styles.
  • How do I install this pinion gear correctly? — Slide the gear onto your motor's 5mm output shaft and secure it with the set screw. Use a small amount of thread locker on the set screw to prevent it from loosening during operation. Once installed, set the correct gear mesh between the pinion and spur gear — there should be a slight amount of backlash but no excessive play. Monitor the mesh during your first run and adjust if necessary.
  • Will this pinion work with my existing spur gear? — Yes, provided your spur gear is MOD1 pitch. The source material emphasises that you must confirm your spur gear matches MOD1 pitch before installation. Using incompatible gear pitches will result in poor meshing, increased noise, accelerated wear and potential drivetrain failure.
  • Should I apply thread locker to the set screw? — Yes, the product documentation recommends applying a small amount of thread locker to the set screw if appropriate for your setup. This prevents vibration from loosening the screw during operation, which could cause the gear to slip on the motor shaft.
  • What should I monitor after changing my gearing? — After installation, monitor motor and ESC temperatures during initial operation. Gearing changes alter the load on your motor and electronic speed controller, so pay attention to temperature readings to ensure your components are operating within safe limits.
  • Why is correct gear mesh so important? — Correct gear mesh reduces wear on both the pinion and spur gear, minimises noise during operation and ensures smooth, efficient power transfer. Too tight a mesh increases friction and motor load; too loose a mesh wastes energy and creates slop in the drivetrain. Taking time to set the mesh correctly will reward you with longer component lifespan and better performance.
