Key Features
- Special Hardened Steel Construction — Manufactured from premium hardened steel specifically chosen for its toughness and durability under high-stress racing conditions, ensuring the gear can handle the demands of serious competition and sustained use without premature wear or tooth damage.
- CNC-Cut Precision Teeth — Every tooth is cut using computer numerical control machinery to guarantee perfect tooth shape and concentricity, which eliminates the vibration, play, and inefficiency that can occur with less precisely manufactured gears and ultimately rob your RC car of performance and acceleration.
- Ultra-True Running — The precision tolerances and specialist manufacturing process used to create this pinion ensure ultra-true running characteristics that deliver vibration-free operation, protecting your bearings from unnecessary wear and maintaining smooth power delivery to your wheels.
- MOD1 Compatibility — Designed to fit all 1/8 scale RC cars equipped with MOD1 gearing systems, making this a versatile component that works with a wide range of popular racing platforms and competition-standard setups used across UK RC tracks.
- 5.0mm Motor Shaft Diameter — The 5mm shaft bore accommodates standard brushless and brushed motors commonly found in 1/8 scale vehicles, ensuring straightforward installation without the need for shaft adapters or modifications.
- 12-Tooth Configuration — The 12-tooth design provides an excellent balance between acceleration and top-end speed, making it suitable for a variety of track layouts and driving styles, from tight technical courses to faster open circuits.
- Easy Identification Marking — Each pinion is permanently marked with its tooth count, allowing you to quickly identify the gear ratio at a glance when managing your collection or making pit-stop adjustments during racing sessions.
- European Manufacturing — Built in Europe to exacting quality standards, this gear represents the manufacturing excellence and attention to detail that Corally customers have come to expect from the brand.
- Compact Short Design — The short pinion design minimises weight and allows for precise gear mesh adjustment, ensuring optimal power transfer and longevity of both the pinion and its meshing spur gear.
Technical Performance
The Corally M1.0 Pinion Short represents the pinnacle of precision gear manufacturing for 1/8 scale RC vehicles. Constructed from special hardened steel and manufactured on specialist gear cutting machinery, this pinion delivers the concentricity and tooth precision that separates competition-grade components from standard alternatives. The CNC-cut teeth ensure perfect tooth geometry with minimal tolerance variation, which is absolutely critical for vibration-free operation at high RPMs. The gear measures 13mm in length with a tooth width of 6.2mm, providing a compact profile that allows for precise spur gear mesh alignment without excessive material or weight. The 5mm motor shaft diameter is the industry standard for 1/8 scale brushless and brushed motors, ensuring straightforward installation into your existing RC car setup. With a MOD1 pitch specification, this 12-tooth pinion integrates seamlessly with MOD1 spur gears to create efficient, reliable drivetrain systems. The hardened steel material withstands the torsional loads and stress cycles experienced during aggressive acceleration and hard cornering, whilst the precision manufacturing ensures consistent performance across the component's lifespan. Whether you're running a competition-spec 1/8 scale buggy, truggy, or racing truck, the engineering integrity of this Corally pinion ensures reliable gear mesh, efficient power transfer, and the performance consistency demanded by serious RC racers in the UK and beyond.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this pinion gear suitable for my 1/8 scale RC car? — Yes, this Corally C-72712 pinion is specifically designed for 1/8 scale vehicles equipped with MOD1 gearing systems. It features a 5mm motor shaft diameter, which is the standard size for 1/8 scale brushless and brushed motors. As long as your RC car uses MOD1 gears and has a 5mm motor shaft, this pinion will be compatible with your setup.
- What does the 12-tooth configuration mean for my RC car's performance? — The 12-tooth pinion directly determines your final gear ratio when meshed with your spur gear. A 12-tooth pinion is a popular mid-range option that provides a good balance between acceleration and top-end speed. If you want faster acceleration and lower top speed, you would choose a smaller pinion (fewer teeth). If you want higher top speed with less initial acceleration, you would choose a larger pinion (more teeth). The 12T is ideal for versatile track conditions and mixed driving styles.
- Why is hardened steel important in a pinion gear? — Hardened steel provides superior durability and wear resistance compared to standard steel or aluminium pinions. The hardening process increases the material's hardness and strength, allowing it to withstand the constant stress of meshing with your spur gear, the torsional loads from acceleration and cornering, and the impact forces common in RC racing. This translates to a longer service life and more reliable performance throughout your racing season.
- What does CNC-cut mean and why does it matter? — CNC (Computer Numerical Control) cutting means the teeth are shaped using computer-controlled machinery to extremely precise tolerances. This precision manufacturing ensures perfect tooth geometry, which is essential for smooth, efficient gear mesh with your spur gear. Poorly cut teeth can cause vibration, noise, power loss, and accelerated wear. The CNC-cut teeth on this Corally pinion guarantee vibration-free operation and efficient power transfer.
- Will this pinion work as a direct replacement for my damaged gear? — Yes, if your current pinion is also MOD1 with a 5mm shaft diameter, this Corally gear is a direct replacement. However, it's recommended to inspect your spur gear for wear as well. If you've damaged your pinion, the spur gear may have also incurred damage. Replacing both gears together ensures optimal gear mesh and performance.
- What is MOD1 and how does it differ from other modulus systems? — MOD1 refers to Module 1.0, which is a metric gear pitch standard that determines tooth size and spacing. Different module systems (MOD1, MOD0.8, etc.) use different tooth pitches and are not interchangeable. MOD1 is the standard for most 1/8 scale competition RC vehicles in the UK and worldwide. Always verify your car uses MOD1 gears before purchasing this pinion.
- How do I install this pinion gear onto my motor? — This pinion is press-fit onto your motor shaft. For most RC motors, you will carefully slide the gear over your 5mm motor shaft until it sits flush against the motor can. A small set screw (usually accessed with a 2.0mm hex key) is then tightened through the pinion hub to secure it to the shaft. Use threadlocker compound on the set screw to prevent it from vibrating loose during operation. If you're unsure about installation, consult your RC car's manual or seek advice from an experienced RC technician.
- Why does concentricity matter in a pinion gear? — Concentricity refers to how perfectly centred the gear teeth are around the shaft axis. Poor concentricity causes the teeth to run off-centre, creating vibration, uneven wear, and power loss. Corally's precision manufacturing and CNC cutting process ensures exceptional concentricity, meaning this pinion will run true and deliver consistent performance without the vibration that damages components and reduces efficiency.
- What does the 13mm length and 6.2mm tooth width tell me? — The 13mm overall length and 6.2mm tooth width indicate this is a compact, short-format pinion. The short design minimises weight and allows for precise spur gear mesh adjustment, which is critical for optimal drivetrain performance. Shorter pinions are generally preferred in competition applications where every fraction of a gram counts and where precise gear mesh alignment is essential.
