Technical Performance
The Team Associated FT Silicone Shock 27.5WT delivers professional-grade damping control through its precisely specified 313 cSt viscosity rating. This intermediate weight fluid sits in the sweet spot for many popular RC cars in the 1/10 and 1/8 scale classes, providing balanced shock absorption across both compression and rebound cycles. The silicone formulation ensures thermal stability, maintaining consistent viscosity across a range of ambient temperatures you might encounter at your local RC track or outdoor racing venue. The fluid's engineered properties make it suitable for use in shock absorbers across Team Associated's extensive range of RC vehicles, from the RC10 buggy platform through to modern competition models like the RC8, RC12, TC series, and numerous other vehicles in their lineup. For serious racers using Team Associated platforms, this shock fluid is specifically formulated to work with Factory Team shocks and quality aftermarket dampers. The 313 cSt rating represents a middle ground in Team Associated's shock fluid range, making it versatile for a variety of track conditions and setup preferences. Whether you're running on carpet, asphalt, or loose dirt surfaces typical of UK RC tracks, this viscosity provides reliable damping performance that allows drivers to make meaningful setup adjustments and feel the difference between component changes.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between 27.5wt and other shock fluid weights available? — Shock fluid weights are measured in centistokes (cSt), with this 27.5wt fluid rated at 313 cSt. Lighter weights provide faster shock response and less resistance, whilst heavier weights provide more damping and resistance. The 27.5wt is an intermediate weight suitable for many popular RC cars. Team Associated produces multiple weight options, so choosing the right weight for your specific vehicle and driving style is essential for optimal handling and lap times.
- Why should I use pre-weighted shock fluid instead of mixing different weights together? — Pre-weighted shock fluid like this 27.5wt eliminates measurement errors and ensures consistency every time you refill your shocks. When you mix different weights, you risk getting slightly different viscosity between refills, which makes it impossible to establish a reliable baseline for tuning. Using this pre-formulated fluid means your damping performance remains consistent across multiple race days, allowing you to confidently attribute handling changes to other setup adjustments rather than fluid inconsistency.
- What volume of shock fluid do I need for my RC car? — Most RC shock absorbers require a relatively small amount of fluid, typically between 5ml and 15ml per shock depending on the shock design and reservoir size. This 4oz (118ml) bottle provides enough fluid for multiple shock refills and maintenance across several RC vehicles, or extended trackside tuning sessions where you might need to adjust fluid levels multiple times. The larger size makes it economical for racers who maintain multiple vehicles or compete regularly.
- Can I use this fluid in different brands of shocks or only Team Associated shocks? — This is Team Associated brand shock fluid formulated specifically for their shock designs and specifications. Whilst silicone shock fluids from different manufacturers are generally similar in chemistry, it's recommended to use shock fluid matched to your specific shock absorber brand for best results. Using non-specified fluids might result in different damping characteristics than intended by the shock designer.
- How often should I change my shock fluid? — Shock fluid doesn't technically wear out, but it can become contaminated with dust, dirt, or internal shock wear particles over time. Regular maintenance involves topping up or replacing shock fluid when refilling shocks—typically every few months for casual racers or every few weeks for competitive racers who run regularly. The larger 4oz bottle makes it easy to keep spare fluid on hand for regular maintenance without constantly reordering.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. Whilst this is a professional Factory Team grade product, shock fluid is a fundamental consumable that all RC racers from beginner to professional level need to use. Beginners benefit from using quality shock fluid and the 27.5wt rating is versatile enough to work well in many popular beginner RC cars. The spill-proof seal design also makes it safer to handle for newcomers to the hobby who might be less experienced with fluid management.
- What does cSt mean and why is 313 cSt important? — cSt (centistoke) is the scientific unit measuring fluid viscosity or thickness. A higher cSt number means thicker, more resistant fluid; a lower number means thinner, faster-flowing fluid. The 313 cSt specification means this 27.5wt fluid provides specific resistance characteristics that dampen shock movement at a defined rate. This precise measurement is crucial for consistent RC performance because it allows predictable handling characteristics and repeatable tuning adjustments across different race sessions.
- How should I store this shock fluid properly? — Store the bottle in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, which can degrade silicone fluids over time. The integrated seal insert keeps the fluid protected during transport to the track. Keep the cap sealed tightly to prevent evaporation or contamination. When stored properly, unopened shock fluid remains usable indefinitely, but once opened and exposed to air or moisture, it's best to use within a season or two for optimal performance.
