Team Associated Silicone Shock Oil 40Wt (500cSt) AS5423 is a professional-grade shock fluid engineered to deliver precise damping performance across a vast range of Team Associated RC vehicles. Whether you're running a competitive RC buggy, touring car, monster truck, or crawler, this silicone shock oil provides the consistency and reliability needed to fine-tune your suspension setup without the hassle of mixing different fluids together. Made in the USA exclusively for Team Associated by Lucas Oil Products Inc., this shock oil represents the gold standard in RC suspension maintenance and tuning for UK hobbyists and competitors alike.

This 40-weight formulation, with a kinematic viscosity of 500 centistokes (cSt), sits in the mid-range of Team Associated's comprehensive shock oil lineup, making it the go-to choice for drivers seeking balanced damping characteristics. The 2 fluid ounce bottle format is perfect for regular maintenance, top-ups, and experimenting with suspension geometry without committing to bulk quantities. For those wanting to dial in even more specific viscosity settings, Team Associated offers half-weight options within their range, allowing you to achieve the exact damping profile your RC car demands. If you need a larger quantity, a 4oz version is also available.

Available at RC Model Shop, your trusted UK RC retailer, this shock oil is essential for anyone serious about RC performance, whether you're a weekend basher enjoying casual track days or a dedicated racer pushing your machine to its limits at competition events across the UK.

Key Features

  • Precision 40-Weight Formulation (500cSt) — This specific viscosity grade delivers ideal damping characteristics for a huge range of Team Associated models, providing the perfect balance between resistance and flow to ensure your shocks respond predictably across various track conditions and driving styles.
  • Made in the USA by Lucas Oil Products Inc. — Manufactured exclusively for Team Associated by a renowned American industrial lubricants specialist, ensuring exceptional quality control, consistency between batches, and reliability that you can trust in competitive environments.
  • No Mixing Required — Unlike lower-quality shock oils that demand mixing different weights to achieve your desired viscosity, this 40-weight product arrives ready to use, saving you time and eliminating the potential for measurement errors that could compromise your suspension performance.
  • Spill-Proof Seal Insert Design — The innovative seal insert means your shock oil remains contained during transport and storage, preventing messy spills in your pit bag or tool case whilst keeping the fluid clean and uncontaminated.
  • Convenient Twist-Open Cap — The user-friendly twist-to-open cap design makes it quick and easy to access the fluid for filling your shocks, whether you're at the trackside making last-minute adjustments or at home perfecting your suspension setup.
  • 2 Fluid Ounce Bottle — The compact 2 fl. oz. size is ideal for regular maintenance, shock refills, and experimentation without creating excess waste or tying up shelf space in your RC workshop.
  • Comprehensive Vehicle Compatibility — This shock oil is engineered to work across Team Associated's entire racing lineup, from the legendary RC10 platform through to modern buggies, touring cars, trucks, crawlers, and the innovative Enduro range, ensuring you have one solution for all your Team Associated vehicles.

Technical Performance

The 40-weight silicone formulation at 500cSt provides optimal damping characteristics for a comprehensive range of driving conditions and vehicle types. Silicone-based shock fluids are preferred across professional RC racing because they maintain consistent viscosity across temperature variations, preventing performance fluctuations during extended driving sessions. The 500cSt rating places this fluid squarely in the mid-range of damping resistance, making it suitable for track racing, trail work, and general recreational driving. Unlike mineral oils or other synthetics, silicone fluids resist oxidation and degradation over extended storage periods, meaning your shock oil maintains its properties even if stored for several months between uses. The precision manufacturing process ensures batch-to-batch consistency, a critical factor for competitive drivers who need predictable performance during race weekends. This shock oil works harmoniously with the advanced shock designs found in Team Associated's market-leading range, which spans from the timeless RC10 classic through to cutting-edge platforms like the RC8B4, RC8T4, and RC10B7. The fluid's performance envelope encompasses everything from high-speed off-road buggies requiring rapid shock response, to crawlers needing controlled articulation, to touring cars demanding precise line-holding characteristics. Temperature stability is exceptional, maintaining viscosity whether driving in cool British winters or warmer summer conditions, ensuring your suspension tuning remains effective throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What viscosity shock oil do I need for my Team Associated RC car? — Team Associated publishes a comprehensive fluid chart to help you select the perfect viscosity for your specific vehicle model and driving conditions. The 40-weight (500cSt) option is ideal for general-purpose use and serves as an excellent starting point for most vehicles. If you need lighter damping, explore the half-weight options available in the Team Associated range; if you need heavier damping, move up to higher-weight formulations. Your shock oil choice directly affects how your suspension responds to bumps, jumps, and cornering forces, so getting it right is crucial for performance.
  • Is this shock oil suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. Whilst shock oil selection might seem technical, this 40-weight formulation is a safe, versatile choice that works well across most Team Associated vehicles regardless of experience level. Beginners benefit from the fact that this pre-formulated weight eliminates guesswork about mixing ratios. As you progress and develop a better understanding of suspension tuning, you can experiment with lighter or heavier weights to fine-tune your specific setup.
  • Why should I buy genuine Team Associated shock oil instead of generic alternatives? — Genuine Team Associated shock oil, manufactured exclusively by Lucas Oil Products Inc., guarantees consistency and performance optimisation across all Team Associated vehicles. Generic or unbranded shock fluids may vary in actual viscosity, contain impurities, or degrade more quickly, all of which compromise your vehicle's performance and potentially damage precision-engineered shocks. Professional racers and serious hobbyists use genuine OEM fluids because the slight extra cost is justified by improved performance, reliability, and component longevity.
  • How often should I change my shock oil? — For regular recreational driving, shock oil typically remains viable for an entire racing season. However, competitive drivers racing multiple weekends per month often change shock oil more frequently to maintain optimal performance. If you notice your shocks feeling less responsive or performing inconsistently, or if you've exposed them to water or contamination, it's time to refresh the fluid. Storing your RC car with old shock oil for extended periods can lead to fluid degradation, so consider refreshing before putting your car away for winter.
  • What's the difference between this 40-weight and other viscosity options? — Shock oil viscosity directly controls how quickly fluid flows through your shock's internal orifices. Lighter weights (like 30-weight) allow faster fluid movement, creating softer, more compliant damping ideal for rough tracks or heavy impacts. Heavier weights (like 50-weight) restrict fluid flow more, creating stiffer damping suitable for smoother surfaces or drivers preferring firmer suspension response. The 40-weight represents the goldilocks option—not too soft, not too stiff—making it perfect for general-purpose driving and as a baseline for tuning.
  • Does this shock oil work in all Team Associated models? — Yes, this 40-weight formulation is compatible with the entire Team Associated range, spanning vintage classics like the original RC10 through modern competition platforms including the RC8B series, RC10B series, TC7 series, and contemporary buggies, touring cars, trucks, and crawlers including the Enduro range. Team Associated's shock design philosophy remains consistent across their lineup, allowing universal compatibility with this fluid.
  • How do I store shock oil properly? — Keep your shock oil in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, which can degrade silicone fluids over time. The spill-proof seal insert design means you can confidently store bottles upright in your toolbox or RC workshop without worrying about leaks. Ensure the cap is tightly sealed after each use. Properly stored shock oil maintains its properties for several years, though most serious racers use their fluid within a season or two anyway.
