Overview
The Traxxas 29-T Pinion Gear (48-pitch) Set TRX2429 is an essential performance tuning component for RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand precision engineering and reliable gear performance. Whether you're running a brushless RC car, optimising your electric RC buggy, or fine-tuning a high-performance ready to run RC vehicle, this pinion gear offers the exact tooth count needed to achieve the perfect balance between acceleration and top speed. Traxxas has built a reputation for manufacturing durable, precision-engineered RC components, and this pinion gear is no exception, delivering consistent performance whether you're a weekend basher or a competitive racer.
Pinion gears are critical components in any RC drivetrain, working in conjunction with your spur gear to transmit power from the motor to the wheels. The tooth count directly affects your vehicle's performance characteristics – a higher tooth count like this 29-tooth configuration will generally provide stronger acceleration and better low-end torque, making it an excellent choice for drivers who want responsive, punchy performance from their RC model. This makes the TRX2429 particularly popular among UK RC hobbyists who are upgrading or replacing worn pinion gears, or those exploring different gearing options to suit their driving style and track conditions.
Manufactured by Traxxas, a globally recognised leader in RC vehicle design and component production, this 48-pitch pinion gear is engineered to exacting standards and compatible with Traxxas transmission systems. Having the right spare pinion gears on hand is essential for any serious RC enthusiast, ensuring you can quickly swap out different tooth counts to experiment with performance tuning or replace damaged gears after a crash or intensive use.
Key Features
- 48-pitch Specification — This pinion gear features a 48-pitch (48dp) design, which is a standard pitch specification used in modern RC vehicle transmissions, ensuring compatibility with Traxxas-equipped vehicles and many other RC cars and trucks across the hobby.
- 29-Tooth Configuration — The 29-tooth count provides a balanced approach to acceleration and speed, offering stronger torque delivery and more responsive acceleration compared to lower tooth count alternatives, whilst still maintaining reasonable top-end velocity.
- 3.2mm Bore Diameter — The precisely machined 3.2mm bore ensures a secure, wobble-free fit onto standard motor shafts, eliminating play in the drivetrain and maintaining consistent performance throughout your driving session.
- Precision Traxxas Engineering — Manufactured to strict tolerances by Traxxas, these pinion gears are cut from quality materials and hardened to resist wear, stripping, and premature failure even under the demanding conditions of competitive RC racing and aggressive bashing.
- Wide Compatibility — As an official Traxxas component (part number TRX2429), this pinion gear is guaranteed to work seamlessly with Traxxas RC vehicles and transmissions, taking the guesswork out of sourcing replacement or alternative gearing options.
- Performance Tuning Essential — Whether you're looking to adjust your vehicle's gearing for different track conditions, battery configurations, or driving styles, having multiple pinion gear options available allows you to dial in the perfect setup for your specific needs.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas 29-T Pinion Gear represents the pinnacle of precision RC component engineering. With its 48-pitch specification and 29-tooth configuration, this pinion gear is designed to work in harmony with Traxxas spur gears to create a reliable, efficient drivetrain that transmits power smoothly from your brushless or brushed motor to the wheels. The 3.2mm bore diameter has been precisely machined to exacting tolerances, ensuring a perfect fit on standard motor shafts without any lateral play or wobbling that could compromise performance or introduce vibration into the drivetrain. The gear teeth are hardened and cut with precision, allowing them to mesh smoothly with the spur gear whilst resisting the common failure modes of stripping, chipping, and premature wear that can occur with lower-quality alternatives. Whether you're running a high-KV brushless motor on a 2S or 3S LiPo battery system, or using a traditional brushed motor setup, this pinion gear will deliver consistent, reliable performance. The 29-tooth count strikes an excellent balance in the RC performance spectrum – it's high enough to provide meaningful acceleration and torque response, particularly valuable for quarter-pipe stunts, hill climbing, or rapid acceleration from standstills, whilst remaining low enough that you'll still achieve respectable top speeds on open track or bashing terrain. This makes the TRX2429 an ideal choice for UK RC drivers who want a versatile gearing option that performs well across a range of driving conditions and vehicle types, from stadium trucks and short course trucks to buggies and touring cars.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pinion gear and why do I need one for my RC car? — The pinion gear is a small gear mounted on your motor shaft that meshes with the larger spur gear to transmit power to your wheels. Every RC car needs a pinion gear as part of its drivetrain. Different tooth counts produce different performance characteristics – more teeth mean more acceleration but lower top speed, whilst fewer teeth mean less acceleration but higher top speed. Having spare pinion gears allows you to tune your vehicle's performance.
- How do I know if the 29-tooth pinion is right for my RC setup? — The 29-tooth count is considered a mid-range option that balances acceleration with top speed, making it suitable for most driving styles and conditions. If you want more acceleration and torque response, stick with this 29-tooth option or go higher. If you want maximum top speed, consider a lower tooth count. The best approach is to have several pinion gears on hand so you can experiment with different ratios.
- Will this pinion gear work with my Traxxas RC vehicle? — Yes, the TRX2429 is an official Traxxas part (part number TRX2429) designed specifically for Traxxas vehicles. It will work seamlessly with Traxxas transmissions. However, if you're unsure about compatibility with your specific vehicle model, consult your vehicle's manual or contact our expert team at RC Model Shop.
- What does 48-pitch mean? — Pitch is a measurement of gear tooth size and spacing. 48-pitch (48dp) is a standard specification used in modern RC vehicles. The pitch determines which spur gears your pinion will be compatible with – you'll need to use a 48-pitch spur gear with this 48-pitch pinion to ensure smooth meshing and reliable performance.
- How often should I replace my pinion gear? — With normal use, a quality pinion gear like this Traxxas component will last for many hours of driving. However, aggressive racing, crashes, or running on excessively worn spur gears can accelerate pinion wear. If you notice grinding, skipping, or inconsistent power delivery, it's time to replace your pinion gear.
- Can I use this pinion gear with non-Traxxas vehicles? — This is a 48-pitch pinion with a 3.2mm bore, so it may be compatible with other RC vehicles using the same specifications. However, we recommend verifying compatibility with your vehicle's manual before purchasing, as not all RC vehicles use identical pinion specifications.
