  • Steel Axles and Dogbones — Steel front and rear axles, front stub axles, and steel dogbones provide the genuine strength needed to keep running with absolute confidence during tough climbs and over rough trails where plastic components would flex and break.
  • Splined Drive Shafts for Maximum Suspension Travel — The front and rear drive shafts are splined and sleeved to allow the maximum possible suspension travel whilst maintaining constant power delivery to the wheels, essential for crawling over obstacles larger than the vehicle itself.
  • Officially Licensed Nitto Trail Grappler M/T Tyres — Complementing the exceptional scale realism of the body, Axial has outfitted the SCX24 with officially licensed Nitto Trail Grappler M/T tyres that offer a fantastic blend of serious off-road performance whilst retaining excellent composure for on-road driving.
  • Working Lights with Moulded Lenses — For maximum scale realism and visibility during dimly lit conditions, working LED lights are included on the front corners of the scale Ford Bronco body and integrated into the front bumper, with all four corners featuring precision-moulded lens covers.
  • New Fast-Access Body Mounting System — The redesigned body mounting system allows you to remove the body quickly and easily for battery replacement and general maintenance, saving time and frustration when you need to service your rig.
  • Worm Gears for Increased Ground Clearance — The axles feature worm gear reduction that increases ground clearance relative to traditional spur gears, a critical feature for serious rock crawling where maximum clearance over obstacles makes the difference between success and getting stuck.

Technical Performance

The Axial SCX24 Ford Bronco RTR represents a serious engineering achievement in the compact 1/24 scale RC crawler category. The chassis uses stamped steel C-channel frame rails with internal bracing rather than cheap plastic construction, providing the rigidity and durability necessary for genuine off-road punishment. Power comes from a dedicated Dynamite 88-turn brushed motor paired with a worm gear differential system (16T/2T ratio) that provides both the torque needed for climbing and the ground clearance essential for crawling. The motor size is 030, with a 10T pinion driving a 55T spur gear, delivering measured performance that prioritises capability over raw speed—exactly right for a dedicated rock crawler. The Spektrum SLT2 radio system operates on the 2.4GHz frequency band, providing reliable range and interference-free operation in the busy UK RC environment. Battery compatibility is straightforward: the included Spektrum 350mAh 2S LiPo battery (7.4V, rated 30C) slots directly into the purpose-designed battery tray, and the Spektrum USB charger means you can recharge from any computer or USB power adapter. The solid axle suspension with 3-link front and 4-link rear geometry has been specifically engineered to minimise axle steer and torque twist, keeping the vehicle planted and predictable over rocks and roots. Oil-filled shock absorbers with adjustable preload allow fine-tuning of suspension stiffness to match your driving style and terrain. The front and rear track width is 100mm (3.938 inches), the wheelbase is 131.8mm (5.19 inches), and the overall dimensions are 222.3mm length × 98.4mm width × 117.5mm height, making this a genuinely compact vehicle that fits through tight spaces indoors or in confined garden areas. Full sealed ball bearings throughout the drivetrain ensure smooth operation and minimal friction compared to budget alternatives. Steel dogbones, splined drive shafts, and steel front and rear axles with front stub axles provide the mechanical strength to handle the forces imposed by rock crawling without flexing or breaking. The combination of brushed motor, worm gear differential, full ball bearing drivetrain, and oil-filled shocks creates a platform that is both durable and refined, offering significantly better build quality than typical entry-level RC crawlers whilst remaining completely accessible to newcomers.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Axial SCX24 Ford Bronco suitable for beginners with no RC experience? — Yes, absolutely. This is classified as Skill Level 1, meaning it arrives fully assembled and ready to drive straight from the box with no building, soldering, or technical assembly required. The included Spektrum SLT2 radio is intuitive to use, the brushed motor provides moderate power that's easy to control, and the forgiving suspension handles rough terrain without requiring expert driving technique. If you've never operated an RC car before, this is an excellent entry point.
  • What battery does this RC crawler need and what runtime should I expect? — The SCX24 Bronco uses a Spektrum 350mAh 2S LiPo battery (7.4V nominal, rated 30C continuous discharge), and one battery is included in the box. This relatively modest capacity is appropriate for the lightweight 1/24 scale chassis and brushed motor—you can expect approximately 15-20 minutes of active driving per charge depending on driving intensity, terrain, and whether you're using throttle limiting. The included Spektrum USB charger will recharge a depleted battery in roughly 30-40 minutes, making it practical to own a second battery for extended driving sessions.
  • How does the SCX24 Ford Bronco compare to other 1/24 scale RC crawlers? — The SCX24 platform stands out through its combination of quality materials (steel frame rails, full ball bearings, oil-filled shocks) typically found in more expensive models, professional-grade Spektrum electronics, and genuine licensing of both the Ford Bronco body and Nitto tyres. Many competing 1/24 models use plastic frames, simple spring suspensions, and budget radio systems. The SCX24 Bronco represents exceptional value, offering serious capability and realistic detail at an entry-level price point that makes it accessible to beginners whilst satisfying experienced collectors and RC enthusiasts who appreciate engineering quality.
  • Can I drive this indoors on carpets and tiled floors? — Yes, the compact 1/24 scale dimensions (222mm length) and smooth-running ball bearings make this ideal for indoor driving. The oil-filled shocks and full 4WD system handle carpet texture and tile transitions smoothly, and the realistic Nitto Trail Grappler tyres actually perform well on indoor surfaces. Many UK RC enthusiasts use the SCX24 for indoor winter driving when outdoor conditions are poor.
  • What is the ground clearance and can it really climb rocks? — The worm gear differential system is specifically designed to increase ground clearance compared to standard spur gears, and the 4-link rear suspension geometry is optimised to allow the rear axle to articulate upward and maintain traction on obstacles. The solid axle design with splined drive shafts allows maximum suspension travel (essential for crawling), and the Dynamite 88T motor provides genuine climbing torque. Yes, it really can crawl over rocks, roots, and other obstacles scaled appropriately for its size—this is a genuine rock crawler, not a toy.
  • Is the body authentic and can I change it? — The body is officially licensed from Ford and features exceptional detail including moulded door handles, mirrors, roof rails, and a mounted spare tyre. If you want to experiment with other body options, the SCX24 platform supports multiple replacement bodies (Axial offers Jeep, Chevrolet, Dodge, and other authentic options), making it easy to completely transform the look of your rig.
  • What radio system is included and will it work in my area? — The Spektrum SLT2 is a dedicated 2.4GHz system that automatically manages frequency selection and avoids interference from other RC operators in your vicinity. You receive four AA batteries for the transmitter in the box, and the system is reliable across the UK. The two-channel system handles forward/reverse and left/right steering—everything a crawler needs.
  • Is any assembly or soldering required to get this driving? — None whatsoever. The chassis comes fully assembled, the motor and ESC are installed and wired, the suspension is built and adjusted, and the radio is bound to the receiver. You simply charge the battery using the included USB charger (plug it into any USB power source), install the four AA batteries in the transmitter, and drive. Seriously, there is nothing to assemble.
