    Overview

The RC Overhaul Motor Clip on Heatsink 36mm with Temperature Sensor and Fan (Model M-RCO-FAN02R) is an essential cooling accessory for any serious RC enthusiast running 36mm can motors. Whether you're a competitive racer pushing your RC car UK to the limit or a weekend basher enjoying high-speed runs, motor temperature management is critical to maintaining performance and extending the service life of your valuable components. This innovative heatsink and fan combo is specifically designed for 540 and 550 size motors, making it perfect for a wide range of electric RC vehicles from buggies and touring cars to short course trucks and stadium racers.

Keeping your RC motor running cool is not just about longevity—it directly impacts the performance characteristics you experience on the track or trail. The cooler your motor operates, the more consistent torque and punch it will deliver, allowing you to maintain aggressive driving throughout your battery pack without performance degradation. Heat is the enemy of brushless motor efficiency, and this purpose-engineered cooling solution tackles that problem head-on with an intelligent, automatic temperature-sensing fan system that activates only when needed.

The clip-on design makes installation straightforward and non-invasive, requiring no permanent modifications to your RC setup. This means you can add professional-grade cooling to your ready to run RC car or custom build in minutes, and the system is equally suitable for upgrading existing vehicles. With its striking red finish, intelligent thermal management, and proven effectiveness in the RC hobby community, this is a must-have accessory for anyone serious about motor performance and reliability.

    Key Features

    • Clip/Push-On Mount System — The heatsink uses a simple clip or push-on mounting mechanism specifically engineered for 36mm can motor sizes, including the popular 540 and 550 motor configurations found in countless RC vehicles across the UK and internationally. This design means zero modification required and quick installation without tools.
    • Inline Temperature Sensor — An intelligent thermal sensor is integrated directly into the heatsink assembly, eliminating the need for separate wiring or complex installation. This sensor continuously monitors motor temperature and provides an automated response to changing thermal conditions, ensuring your motor never suffers from heat-related performance loss.
    • Automatic Fan Activation at 35°C — The high-powered 30mm fan unit activates automatically when your motor reaches approximately 35 degrees Celsius, providing active cooling exactly when your motor needs it most. This temperature-triggered design means the fan only runs when necessary, reducing unnecessary drain on your battery and extending runtime while keeping temperatures in the optimal performance zone.
    • 30mm High-Powered Fan Unit — The dedicated cooling fan is engineered to move substantial airflow across the motor heatsink fins, effectively dissipating heat even under sustained high-performance driving. The compact 30mm diameter fan is powerful enough to deliver meaningful cooling without adding excessive weight or bulk to your RC setup.
    • 280mm JST Receiver Lead — The pre-fitted 280mm cable with JST receiver connector makes integration into your RC car's electrical system straightforward and reliable. The generous cable length provides flexibility in routing and installation, whilst the industry-standard JST connector ensures a secure, repeatable connection to your receiver.
    • Vibrant Red Finish — Beyond aesthetics, the red powder-coated finish provides durable protection against the elements and everyday handling, whilst adding a striking visual element to your RC vehicle that matches many modern RC car designs.

    Technical Performance

This motor cooling system represents a smart engineering solution to one of the most pressing challenges in electric RC vehicles—thermal management. The 36mm can motor form factor is ubiquitous in 1/10 scale touring cars, buggies, short course trucks, and various competition vehicles, making this accessory applicable to an enormous range of popular models. The clip-on mounting system is designed to accommodate the standard 36mm diameter of 540 and 550 brushless motors without requiring any modification to either the motor can or your vehicle chassis. The heatsink itself features radial fins that maximise surface area for efficient heat dissipation, whilst the aluminium construction provides excellent thermal conductivity to rapidly move heat away from the motor windings and magnets where performance degradation occurs. The 30mm fan operates at a sufficient speed to create meaningful airflow across these fins, and critically, the temperature sensor threshold of 35°C is set at a point where cooling becomes necessary to maintain peak performance without being so sensitive that the fan cycles constantly during normal driving. At this temperature, you're still in the safe zone, but cooling intervention prevents the thermal runaway that can occur if temperatures climb into the 45°C+ range where motor efficiency drops significantly and lifespan begins to reduce. The 280mm JST lead is long enough to route through most RC car chassis designs, whether integrated into the central electronics pod or routed along the side of the chassis, providing genuine installation flexibility for both factory vehicles and custom builds. This accessory has been proven effective across countless RC enthusiasts' vehicles, delivering measurable improvements in temperature stability during extended running sessions and competitive events at RC clubs across the UK.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    • At what temperature does the fan turn on? — The integrated temperature sensor triggers the high-powered fan to activate when your motor reaches approximately 35 degrees Celsius. This threshold is set to provide cooling intervention before performance degradation occurs, whilst avoiding excessive fan cycling during normal driving conditions. Once activated, the fan continues running to maintain optimal thermal conditions.
    • Will this fit my RC motor? — This heatsink is specifically designed for 36mm diameter can motors, with particular compatibility for the extremely common 540 and 550 size brushless motors found in 1/10 scale touring cars, buggies, stadium trucks, and short course racing vehicles. If your RC car UK uses one of these standard motor sizes, this accessory will fit perfectly. The clip-on design means no modification of your motor or vehicle is required.
    • How does the temperature sensor work? — The temperature sensor is integrated directly into the heatsink assembly in contact with the motor can, continuously monitoring motor temperature in real-time. When the sensor detects that your motor has reached approximately 35°C, it automatically triggers the 30mm fan to start running, providing active cooling. There are no separate thermistor wires to route or complex programming required—it's fully automatic and self-contained.
    • Does the fan drain my battery significantly? — The fan only operates when your motor reaches approximately 35°C, meaning it runs selectively rather than continuously throughout your driving session. This intelligent temperature-triggered operation minimises battery drain compared to a fan that runs constantly. Additionally, the fan's activation actually extends your overall runtime by maintaining your motor in the optimal temperature window where efficiency is highest.
    • Can I install this myself? — Yes, absolutely. The clip-on mounting system requires no tools or modifications. Simply slide the heatsink onto your 36mm can motor and secure it using the integrated clip mechanism. The 280mm JST lead connects directly to your receiver's fan channel or spare output channel. Installation takes just a few minutes and can be completed by anyone with basic RC hobby experience.
    • How much difference will this make to my motor's performance? — Motor temperature directly impacts both performance and longevity. By keeping your motor cooler, you maintain higher torque and punch throughout your driving session—your RC car UK will feel more responsive and faster. Additionally, a cooler motor experiences less thermal stress on windings and magnets, significantly extending the lifespan of your expensive motor investment. Many users report noticeably improved performance in extended races or multiple back-to-back driving sessions.
    • Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst beginner RC enthusiasts will certainly benefit from the improved motor cooling and extended service life, this accessory is particularly valuable for those running competitive race setups or pushing their vehicles hard during extended driving sessions. However, anyone serious about maintaining their RC car investments should consider this an essential upgrade, regardless of experience level.
    • What do I need to connect this to my vehicle? — The heatsink comes complete with a 280mm JST receiver lead that connects directly to a spare channel on your RC receiver. Most receivers have dedicated fan outputs or spare channels that can be configured as fan outputs. You'll need a receiver with an available channel—modern RC receivers typically have multiple spare outputs specifically for accessories like cooling fans.
