This is a complete shock absorber set featuring a pair of fully assembled aluminium big bore shock absorbers pre-filled with high-quality silicone shock oil, making it an ideal choice for anyone running an ARRMA 1/10 scale RC car in the UK. Whether you're a seasoned RC basher or looking to upgrade your existing setup, these shocks deliver the performance and durability you need for consistent handling across various terrain types.

Specifically engineered for compatibility with ARRMA's popular 1/10 4WD models including the Kraton 4S and Outcast 4S, this shock set represents a fast and efficient way to improve your vehicle's suspension response. The shocks arrive fully assembled and pre-filled with 500cSt silicone shock oil, meaning you can install them immediately after selecting your preferred spring rate. This ready-to-install approach makes it perfect for RC enthusiasts who want to spend more time driving and less time tinkering with suspension setup, whilst still maintaining full tuning flexibility through the included adjustable preload spacers.

ARRMA has engineered these shocks with precision manufacturing and premium materials throughout, ensuring they deliver reliable performance in both competitive racing environments and casual weekend bashing sessions. The combination of anodised aluminium construction, stainless steel shock shafts, and precision-engineered pistons makes this shock set a trusted choice for RC car UK hobbyists who demand quality and longevity from their suspension components.

Key Features

  • High-Quality Anodised Aluminium Big Bore Shock Bodies — The shock bodies are constructed from premium anodised aluminium, providing exceptional durability whilst keeping weight to a minimum. The anodising process protects against corrosion and wear, ensuring these shocks will maintain their performance through countless driving sessions on UK terrain ranging from dry tarmac to wet grass and muddy tracks.
  • Tough Molded Shock Caps — Each shock features a tough composite molded shock cap designed to resist impacts and crashes that are inevitable in RC driving. These caps are precision manufactured to provide a consistent, leak-free fit to your shock bodies, and they work in conjunction with high-quality o-rings to ensure the shock oil remains sealed inside the chamber during aggressive driving.
  • Strong 4mm Stainless Steel Shock Shafts — The shock shafts are manufactured from robust stainless steel measuring 4mm in diameter, providing exceptional strength and longevity. Stainless steel resists corrosion from moisture and road salt commonly encountered in UK driving conditions, whilst the 4mm diameter ensures sufficient rigidity to handle the forces generated by high-speed driving and jumps without bending or flexing.
  • Precise 1.3mm x 4 Hole Pistons — The shocks feature carefully engineered 1.3mm pistons with 4 precision-drilled holes that regulate oil flow through the shock absorber. This piston configuration is critical for controlling the compression and rebound characteristics of the suspension, allowing the shock to effectively dampen bumps whilst maintaining responsive handling across varied terrain.
  • Pre-Filled with 500cSt Silicone Shock Oil — These shocks arrive pre-filled with premium 500cSt silicone shock oil, which provides consistent damping performance across a wide temperature range. Silicone oil is superior to standard mineral oils as it maintains stable viscosity whether you're driving on cold winter mornings or warm summer afternoons, ensuring predictable suspension behaviour throughout the year in the UK climate.
  • Tough Composite Shock Rod Ends and Pivot Balls — The rod ends and pivot balls are manufactured from tough composite materials that resist breaking under stress whilst providing smooth articulation. These components allow the suspension to move freely whilst maintaining precision fitment, which is essential for consistent handling characteristics during cornering and acceleration.
  • Smooth Silicone O-Rings — High-quality silicone o-rings seal the shock caps to the shock bodies, preventing oil leakage that could compromise damping performance. These seals are smooth and flexible, expanding and contracting with temperature changes without losing their sealing effectiveness.
  • Supplied Fully Assembled and Ready to Install — Unlike many aftermarket shock options, these shocks arrive completely assembled from the factory. This means you can unbox them and install them on your vehicle immediately, saving you time and eliminating assembly complications. You simply need to select your preferred spring and fit the preload spacers of your choice.
  • Adjustable Preload Spacers for Tuning — The set includes six preload spacers in three different thicknesses (2x 3mm, 2x 5mm, and 2x 7mm), allowing you to fine-tune the ride height and suspension geometry of your vehicle. By selecting different spacer thicknesses, you can adjust the amount of preload on the shock springs, which affects how quickly the suspension compresses and extends, ultimately tuning the handling characteristics to suit your driving style and track conditions.

Technical Performance

These ARRMA shocks represent a significant engineering achievement in suspension design for 1/10 scale RC vehicles. The 15mm bore diameter provides a substantial internal volume for shock oil, which translates to more stable damping characteristics and better heat dissipation during extended driving sessions. The 104mm length (measured centre to centre) is precisely calibrated for compatibility with ARRMA's 4WD platform vehicles, ensuring proper suspension geometry and ride height when installed. The 1.3mm x 4 hole piston design is critical to the shock's performance characteristics—the four holes allow oil to pass from the compression chamber to the rebound chamber at a precisely controlled rate, with each hole contributing equally to the overall flow characteristics. This multi-hole design provides smoother, more linear damping compared to single-hole or two-hole pistons, resulting in more predictable handling behaviour whether you're accelerating hard out of corners, braking heavily into turns, or driving over rough, bumpy terrain. The 500cSt silicone shock oil specification is industry-standard for 1/10 scale vehicles and provides excellent performance across the temperature range typically experienced in UK driving conditions—from cool spring mornings to warm summer afternoons. The premium anodised aluminium construction of the shock bodies ensures they remain corrosion-resistant even when exposed to moisture, road salt, and other environmental contaminants common in the British climate. The stainless steel shock shafts are engineered to withstand millions of compression and extension cycles without fatigue failure, whilst the precision manufacturing ensures consistent performance between the left and right shocks on your vehicle, which is essential for balanced handling characteristics.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are these shocks suitable for both racing and casual bashing in the UK? — Yes, absolutely. The ARRMA Shock Set is engineered to deliver consistent performance across both competitive racing environments and casual weekend bashing sessions. The 500cSt silicone oil and precision-engineered piston design provide smooth damping whether you're pushing hard around a race track or driving aggressively over rough terrain at your local RC club in the UK. The adjustable preload spacers allow you to tune the suspension to suit either discipline.
  • How do the preload spacers affect suspension performance? — The preload spacers adjust how much the shock spring is compressed at rest, which affects both ride height and suspension stiffness. Using thicker spacers (like the 7mm option) creates more preload, raising the ride height and making the suspension feel slightly stiffer in initial compression, whilst thinner spacers (like the 3mm option) allow more suspension travel. You should experiment with different spacer combinations to find the setup that feels best for your driving style and local track conditions.
  • What makes 500cSt silicone shock oil the right choice? — The 500cSt viscosity rating indicates the thickness of the oil—500 centistokes is the standard specification for 1/10 scale RC vehicle dampers. This viscosity provides the ideal balance between damping response and oil flow, delivering smooth, predictable handling characteristics across the temperature range experienced in UK driving conditions. Thicker oils (higher cSt) would make the suspension feel harsher, whilst thinner oils would make it feel too soft and bouncy.
  • Can I use these shocks on models other than ARRMA vehicles? — These shocks are specifically engineered for ARRMA vehicles, particularly the 1/10 4WD models including the Kraton 4S and Outcast 4S. The 104mm length and 15mm bore are calibrated for these platforms. Fitting them to other vehicles may result in incorrect suspension geometry and handling characteristics. We recommend checking ARRMA's compatibility guide or contacting our expert team at RC Model Shop for specific fitment questions.
  • How often should I service these shocks? — Like all RC suspension components, these shocks will benefit from periodic maintenance. If you notice a significant change in handling characteristics or if the shocks begin to leak oil, it's time to service them. ARRMA offers complete shock service kits including new pistons, seals, and o-rings. With proper maintenance, these shocks will provide years of reliable performance.
  • What's the difference between these big bore shocks and standard shocks? — The 15mm bore diameter in these big bore shocks provides a significantly larger internal volume compared to standard smaller-bore shocks. This larger volume allows more shock oil to be present in the damper, which provides superior heat dissipation during extended driving sessions and more stable, consistent damping characteristics across a wider range of driving conditions and temperatures. Big bore shocks are generally preferred by serious RC enthusiasts who demand premium performance.
