Overview
The Traxxas Shocks GTR hard anodised, PTFE-coated bodies with TiN shafts represent the absolute pinnacle of suspension technology for 1/16th-scale RC vehicles in the UK. These fully assembled shocks are engineered for serious hobbyists and competitors who demand the smoothest damping action available, without compromise. Whether you're running an E-Revo VXL, Slash, or other compatible Traxxas platform, these GTR shocks will transform your handling characteristics and provide the responsive, planted suspension geometry that separates winners from the rest of the field.
If you're searching for premium RC car suspension parts in the UK, you've found exactly what you need. These aren't basic shock absorbers—they're precision-engineered suspension components that deliver consistent, predictable performance lap after lap. The hard-anodised aluminium construction ensures durability through countless bashes and racing sessions, whilst the advanced PTFE coating and titanium-nitride shaft treatment eliminate the friction and stiction that plague inferior shock designs. For anyone serious about maximising their RC car's potential, whether you're into weekend bashing or competitive racing, these shocks are an essential upgrade.
Coming as a set of four fully assembled units, these shocks are ready to install directly onto your vehicle. However, it's important to note that springs are sold separately, allowing you to dial in your exact ride height and preload characteristics to match your driving style and terrain. This modular approach gives you complete control over your suspension setup, making these shocks suitable for everything from high-speed track racing to rough terrain bashing.
Key Features
- Hard-Anodised Aluminium Bodies — The shock bodies are hard-anodised to create an exceptionally tough, durable finish that resists wear, corrosion and impact damage, ensuring your suspension performs consistently for years of use without degradation.
- PTFE-Coated Finish — The revolutionary PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) coating on the shock bodies provides the slickest damping action available in the RC hobby, delivering smooth, predictable suspension response without friction or binding.
- Titanium-Nitride (TiN) Coated Shafts — The precision shafts are coated with titanium nitride to resist scuffing, increase durability and eliminate "stiction"—that sticky friction that causes unpredictable handling and jerky damping response.
- 13mm Bore Design — The large 13mm bore holds over 70% more shock oil than Traxxas Ultra Shocks, enabling superior damping control and allowing for finer tuning of suspension characteristics across different track conditions and driving styles.
- X-Ring Seals — Advanced X-ring seals keep oil in and dirt out, maintaining smooth, consistent damping performance even in dusty or wet environments, reducing maintenance requirements and extending component lifespan.
- Threaded Spring Collars — Spring preload and ride height adjustments are as simple as turning the threaded spring collars, allowing you to quickly dial in the perfect setup for your specific track or terrain without tools or complex procedures.
- Locking Spring Retainers — The lower spring retainers are held securely with a locking screw, preventing accidental loosening during aggressive driving or high-impact bashing, ensuring your suspension geometry stays true.
- Includes 30-Weight Shock Oil — Each package includes 30-weight pure silicone shock oil, ready to fill your shocks and get you on the track immediately without additional purchases.
- Fully Assembled Units — Arriving completely assembled and ready to install, these shocks save you time and ensure professional factory assembly quality, allowing you to focus on driving rather than building.
Technical Performance
These 1/16th-scale GTR shocks represent a significant engineering advancement in RC suspension technology. The combination of hard-anodised aluminium construction and PTFE coating creates an unmatched damping experience that serious RC enthusiasts immediately recognise. The 13mm bore capacity holds substantially more fluid than earlier shock designs, enabling more precise damping force tuning and allowing for better response across varying track speeds and conditions. The titanium-nitride coated shafts aren't merely cosmetic—they're a functional upgrade that eliminates the microsecond delays caused by shaft friction, resulting in more immediate and predictable suspension response. The X-ring seals represent the latest in seal technology, providing superior oil retention compared to traditional O-rings whilst offering better dirt exclusion, critical when bashing in UK terrain ranging from dusty tracks to muddy fields. The threaded collar system provides infinitely adjustable preload rather than the fixed-position alternatives found in budget shocks, meaning you can fine-tune your ride height and spring tension to perfectly match track conditions, vehicle weight distribution, and driving style. Build quality throughout is exceptional—every component is precision-manufactured to tight tolerances, ensuring consistency across all four shocks. These are designed for vehicles like the Traxxas E-Revo VXL 1/16 4x4 RTR and Slash 1/16 4x4 RTR, and will deliver measurable improvements in handling, grip and responsiveness on any compatible platform.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are these GTR shocks suitable for beginners to RC hobby? — Whilst these shocks are fully assembled and easy to install, they're really designed for intermediate to advanced RC enthusiasts who understand suspension tuning and want to optimise their vehicle's handling. Beginners would benefit from starting with simpler shock setups, but these represent an excellent upgrade once you've developed basic maintenance skills and suspension knowledge. They're not complicated to use, but they do offer advanced adjustability that beginners may not immediately appreciate.
- What vehicles are these shocks compatible with? — These 1/16th-scale shocks are confirmed compatible with the Traxxas E-Revo VXL 1/16 4x4 RTR (both purple and blue X versions) and the Traxxas Slash 1/16 4x4 RTR. Compatibility with other 1/16th-scale Traxxas models is likely but should be verified before purchase. Check your vehicle's manual or contact RC Model Shop for specific fitment confirmation.
- Do these shocks come with springs? — No, springs are sold separately. The package includes only the shock bodies and shafts with 30-weight silicone oil. You'll need to source appropriate springs separately to complete your suspension setup. This modular design allows you to choose spring rates that perfectly match your driving style and terrain conditions.
- What makes PTFE-coated shocks better than standard shocks? — PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) coating dramatically reduces friction between the shock shaft and body, resulting in smoother, more consistent damping response. This eliminates "stiction"—that sticky sensation where damping feels jerky or unpredictable—and delivers the slickest damping action available in the RC hobby. Standard shocks create micro-friction that can cause delayed response and unpredictable handling, whereas PTFE-coated shocks provide immediate, transparent feedback from the track or terrain.
- Why are TiN-coated shafts important? — Titanium-nitride coating on the shafts serves two critical purposes: first, it dramatically increases durability and scuff resistance, meaning your shocks will maintain their performance characteristics through countless impacts and intense driving sessions; second, it reduces friction caused by shaft contact with seals, eliminating the stiction that makes damping feel delayed or unpredictable. This results in more responsive, more trustworthy suspension behaviour.
- How do the X-ring seals compare to standard O-rings? — X-ring seals provide superior performance compared to traditional O-ring seals in several ways. They maintain better oil retention, preventing leakage that would cause damping characteristics to change unpredictably over time. They also provide better dirt exclusion, critical when driving in UK terrain that can range from dry, dusty tracks to muddy fields. The result is more consistent damping performance with less maintenance required.
- How do I adjust ride height and preload on these shocks? — Adjustment is incredibly simple—just turn the threaded spring collars. There are no tools required, and you can make adjustments in minutes. This allows you to quickly experiment with different ride heights and spring preload to find the perfect setup for your specific track conditions or driving preferences.
- What shock oil is included and can I use different weights? — Each package includes 30-weight pure silicone shock oil, which is a medium viscosity suitable for general-purpose use. You can use alternative oil weights if desired—lighter oils provide faster damping response but less damping force, whilst heavier oils provide stronger damping but slower response. Pure silicone oils are essential for Traxxas shocks; never use mineral oils as they can damage seals and degrade performance.
