Overview

The TLR 16mm Front Shock Spring with 4.8 Rate in green is a genuine Team Losi Racing replacement component designed for serious RC enthusiasts and competition-level racers. This precision-engineered shock spring is an essential upgrade for fine-tuning the suspension geometry and handling characteristics of your 1/8 scale RC buggy. Whether you're a dedicated competitor running in UK RC championships or a weekend racer looking to optimise your chassis setup, these front shock springs allow you to achieve the exact suspension stiffness required for your driving style and track conditions.

Manufactured by Team Losi Racing, one of the most respected names in competitive RC racing, this component represents the same quality and engineering you'll find in factory race kits. The 4.8 rate specification provides a specific spring stiffness that works in conjunction with your shock absorber to manage vehicle weight transfer, maintain consistent ride height, and deliver predictable handling throughout your run. For RC car UK enthusiasts who demand performance, upgrading or replacing worn shock springs with genuine OEM components is a critical maintenance task that directly impacts lap times and overall driving experience.

This pack includes two springs, enough to replace both front shock units on your RC buggy. The vibrant green colour not only looks impressive on your chassis but also helps with quick visual identification of spring rates when managing multiple suspension setups, which is invaluable if you're testing different configurations across various UK RC racing venues and conditions.

Key Features

  • 4.8 Rate Specification — The spring rate determines how stiff or soft the suspension feels, directly affecting how your RC buggy responds to bumps, jumps and cornering forces. A 4.8 rate sits in the medium range, making it versatile for both circuit racing and general bashing, though serious racers will adjust rates based on track conditions and their specific setup preferences.
  • 16mm Shock Size — These springs are engineered for 16mm diameter shock bodies, a standard dimension for 1/8 scale RC buggies like the Team Losi Racing 8IGHT series. Proper fitment is essential for correct shock function, so verifying your shock diameter before purchase is critical to ensure compatibility.
  • Pair of Two Springs — You receive two springs in this package, sufficient to outfit both front shock absorbers on your RC buggy. This means you can refresh your front suspension completely without needing to purchase multiple packs.
  • Genuine Team Losi Racing Component — As an official TLR replacement part, this spring is manufactured to the exact specifications required for optimal performance on Losi RC buggies. Using genuine components ensures reliability, longevity and performance that matches factory-intended suspension geometry.
  • High-Visibility Green Colour — The distinctive green finish makes it easy to identify this specific spring rate at a glance, which is particularly useful if you maintain multiple suspension setups for different track conditions or if you're comparing spring rates during testing sessions at your local RC racing club.

Technical Performance

The TLR 16mm Front Shock Spring with 4.8 rate is engineered from high-quality steel and wound to precise tolerances to deliver consistent spring force across the full compression range. Spring rate, measured in pounds per inch (in this case, 4.8 lbs/inch), determines how much force is required to compress the spring by one inch. This particular rate is neither excessively stiff nor overly soft, making it suitable for general racing applications where moderate suspension travel and responsive handling are required. The 16mm diameter specification indicates these springs fit standard 16mm shock bodies found on contemporary 1/8 scale RC buggies, particularly Team Losi Racing's 8IGHT 4.0 models in both nitro and electric variants. The engineering behind these springs is rooted in Team Losi Racing's decades of competitive experience; properly functioning shock springs maintain consistent ride height, improve weight transfer during cornering, and enhance traction by keeping tyres in optimal contact with the track surface. The springs work in tandem with your shock dampers—the fluid inside the shock absorber—to create a complete suspension system that manages vertical movement while providing control and predictability. For UK RC car enthusiasts competing at club level or in regional championships, maintaining suspension components in excellent condition is non-negotiable; worn or damaged springs lose their engineered stiffness, resulting in vehicle squat under acceleration, loss of cornering grip, and unpredictable handling behaviour.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What RC buggy models are these front shock springs compatible with? — These 16mm front shock springs are compatible with Team Losi Racing 1/8 scale RC buggy models including the 8IGHT 4.0 4WD in both nitro fuel (TLR04003) and electric (TLR04004) variants. Before purchasing, verify your RC buggy uses 16mm diameter shock bodies; fitting incorrect spring sizes can compromise suspension performance and vehicle handling.
  • What does the 4.8 rate mean and how does it affect my RC buggy's performance? — The 4.8 rate means the spring requires 4.8 pounds of force to compress one inch. Stiffer springs (higher numbers) provide less suspension travel and more responsive handling, ideal for smooth tracks, while softer springs (lower numbers) allow more travel and better bump absorption for rougher surfaces. The 4.8 rate is moderate and suited to general racing; competitive racers often experiment with multiple rates to find the optimal setup for specific track conditions.
  • Why would I need to replace my shock springs? — Shock springs degrade over time through repeated compression cycles, especially in competitive use or harsh bashing conditions. Worn springs lose their original stiffness, leading to inconsistent suspension behaviour, loss of ride height, and reduced vehicle control. Regular replacement of shock springs is essential maintenance for anyone serious about RC car performance, whether you're racing at UK club level or weekend bashing.
  • Are these genuine Team Losi Racing parts? — Yes, these are genuine OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Team Losi Racing replacement components. Using authentic TLR parts ensures your suspension performs exactly as the engineering team intended, maintains warranty compliance, and guarantees compatibility with your specific RC buggy model.
  • Do I need any tools to install these shock springs? — Installation of shock springs typically requires access to your shock bodies and may require basic tools depending on your shock design. Most 1/8 scale RC shocks use accessible threaded shock bodies that make spring removal and installation straightforward for anyone with basic RC maintenance experience. Consult your RC buggy manual for specific installation instructions relevant to your model.
