Overview
The E-flite 25g Metal Gear Servo (Z-SPMSA500) is a compact, lightweight servo specifically engineered for RC hobbyists in the UK who need dependable control in tight spaces. Whether you're building a micro RC car, upgrading your current setup, or working on a scale aircraft project, this Spektrum-branded servo delivers professional-grade performance in an incredibly small footprint. At just 26.6 grams, it's designed to fit into applications where space is severely limited, making it an ideal choice for anyone looking to minimise weight whilst maintaining reliable control authority.
Metal gear construction sets this servo apart from plastic alternatives, providing superior durability under load and ensuring your RC equipment can handle the demands of regular use. This is particularly valuable for RC enthusiasts who want equipment that will last through countless flights, bashing sessions, or competition runs. The universal connector lead gives you maximum flexibility in installation, whilst the straightforward non-programmable design means you can get up and running without complex configuration. Whether you're a seasoned RC competitor, a weekend basher, or just discovering the world of RC for the first time, this servo represents genuine quality from a trusted manufacturer.
Available now from RC Model Shop, this is the servo choice for UK hobbyists who refuse to compromise on build quality. The combination of metal gears, compact dimensions, and proven Spektrum reliability makes the 25g Metal Gear Servo an excellent upgrade component or replacement for micro and compact RC models.
Key Features
- Metal Gear Construction — Unlike plastic gear servos, metal gears provide exceptional durability and strength under load, ensuring your servo maintains precise control even during aggressive driving or flying without stripping teeth or losing reliability over time.
- Compact 25g Design — Weighing just 26.6 grams with dimensions of 35.9mm length, 15.1mm width and 28.6mm height, this servo fits into tight spaces where conventional servos simply won't work, making it perfect for micro RC builds and weight-conscious applications.
- 2.1kg/cm Torque Output — Operating at 6.0V, this servo delivers a respectable 2.1kg/cm of maximum torque, providing sufficient control authority for most small-scale RC cars, boats and aircraft without excessive power draw.
- 25-Tooth Output Spline — The standard 25-tooth spline works seamlessly with common servo horns found across the RC hobby, ensuring compatibility with your existing components and avoiding the need for expensive adapters.
- 600mm Universal Connector Lead — The extended 23.6-inch connector wire offers flexible installation options, allowing you to position the servo away from your receiver or control module as needed for optimal weight distribution and electronics layout.
- Universal Connector Type — The standard universal servo connector ensures broad compatibility across multiple RC brands and transmitter systems, whether you're using Spektrum, Futaba or other popular RC radio equipment.
- Non-Programmable Design — Without the complexity of programmable functions, setup is straightforward and immediate, perfect for hobbyists who want to focus on flying or driving rather than diving into servo calibration menus.
- 6.0V Operating Voltage — Designed to run on standard 6.0V power supplies, this servo is compatible with typical two and three-cell LiPo batteries and conventional receiver battery packs used across RC applications in the UK market.
Technical Performance
The E-flite 25g Metal Gear Servo represents engineering focused entirely on delivering performance within severe space and weight constraints. Metal gear construction throughout the drive train eliminates the flexibility and potential failure modes associated with nylon or plastic gears, instead providing a rigid, reliable power transmission from the servo motor to your control surface. At 6.0V operating voltage, the servo produces 2.1kg/cm of torque — sufficient for controlling surfaces on small-scale RC models without drawing excessive current that would drain receiver batteries prematurely. The servo's physical dimensions of 35.9 x 15.1 x 28.6 millimetres make it genuinely suitable for micro RC cars, compact aircraft builds, and any application where conventional servos would create installation challenges or compromise weight distribution. The 25-tooth output spline is the industry standard for servos in this size class, ensuring your existing collection of servo horns and mechanical linkages will work without modification. The 600mm lead length provides genuine flexibility in servo placement, allowing builders to mount the servo remotely from the receiver without investing in extension cables that would add cost and potential signal loss. For RC car enthusiasts in the UK building micro-scale vehicles, for aircraft modellers working on compact designs, or for anyone upgrading from worn plastic-gear servos, the metal gear construction combined with compact dimensions and solid torque output creates a versatile, reliable component that will integrate seamlessly into your RC setup and provide years of trouble-free operation.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the E-flite 25g Metal Gear Servo suitable for beginners in RC car UK models? — Yes, absolutely. The servo's non-programmable design and universal connector mean there are no complex configuration steps required. It's straightforward to install and use, making it ideal for anyone new to RC hobbies. However, given its compact size and 25g weight, it's particularly suited to smaller-scale RC models rather than full-size off-road trucks, so ensure your model is appropriately sized.
- What voltage and battery type does this servo require? — The servo operates at 6.0V and is compatible with standard two-cell and three-cell LiPo receiver batteries, as well as conventional NiMH battery packs commonly used in RC applications. Most RC cars UK and aircraft models running modern receiver systems will provide the 6.0V supply this servo requires natively.
- What makes metal gears better than plastic gears in an RC servo? — Metal gears eliminate the wear, flex, and tooth stripping that can occur with plastic alternatives, especially under repeated stress or during aggressive control inputs. For RC enthusiasts who use their equipment regularly, metal gears deliver longer service life, more consistent performance, and greater reliability — meaning fewer servo failures during competition or weekend flying sessions.
- Will this servo fit my existing RC model or setup? — The 25-tooth spline and universal connector mean the servo is compatible with most RC vehicles and aircraft that accept standard servos. The compact 35.9mm length and 15.1mm width make it particularly suitable for micro-scale models, though you should verify that your model's servo mounting points accept this size. The 600mm lead length provides flexibility in positioning the servo during installation.
- How much torque does this servo produce, and is it enough for my RC model? — At 6.0V, the servo delivers 2.1kg/cm of torque, which is appropriate for controlling surfaces on small RC cars, aircraft, and boats. For larger vehicles or applications requiring heavy control loads, you may need a larger servo with higher torque output, but for micro-scale and compact builds, this output is well-suited.
- Is the servo programmable? — No, the E-flite 25g Metal Gear Servo is non-programmable, meaning it operates with fixed response characteristics. This simplifies setup but eliminates options for customising throw distance or response curves — for most users, this is perfectly adequate and reduces complexity.
