Overview

The Spektrum SPM 2.3 Gram Performance Linear Long Throw Servo (P-SPMSA2030L) is a specialised ultra-micro servo designed specifically for RC modellers who want to add sophisticated aileron differential control to their lightweight aircraft without requiring a computer-programmable transmitter. This innovative servo comes pre-programmed with a 70/30 offset from centre, providing built-in differential that allows you to achieve realistic, scale-like aileron control characteristics on ultra micro models. Whether you're building a featherweight foam aircraft, a delicate indoor flyer, or a precision aerobatic ultra micro, this servo delivers the performance and versatility that serious RC aircraft enthusiasts demand.

At just 2.3 grams, this is an exceptionally lightweight servo that won't compromise your aircraft's flight characteristics or payload capacity. The long-throw design provides extended servo travel, which is perfect for maximising control authority on small-format models where every millimetre of surface deflection matters. Unlike standard servos that require transmitter programming to achieve aileron differential, the A2030L arrives ready to install with its offset already dialled in, making it an ideal choice for modellers who prefer to keep their radio systems simple or who don't have access to programming functions on their existing Spektrum AR6400-series receiver setup.

This servo represents years of Spektrum engineering expertise applied to the ultra-micro segment of the RC hobby. It's the perfect solution for UK RC aircraft enthusiasts looking to enhance their flying experience with a servo that combines ultra-lightweight construction, intelligent offset programming, and the reliability that Spektrum is recognised for throughout the RC community.

Key Features

  • Long-Throw Linear Design — The extended servo throw provides maximum control surface deflection on ultra micro aircraft, delivering superior control authority and responsiveness that makes a real difference in flight performance and handling characteristics.
  • Pre-Programmed 70/30 Offset — This servo arrives factory-configured with offset differential, eliminating the need for computer transmitter programming and allowing immediate installation and use on any compatible Spektrum receiver without additional setup time.
  • Ultra-Lightweight Construction at 2.3g — Weighing just 2.3 grams, this servo minimises the impact on your aircraft's weight budget, preserving flight time, payload capacity, and the delicate handling characteristics that make ultra micro flying so enjoyable.
  • Spektrum AR6400-Series Compatibility — This servo works seamlessly with all Spektrum AR6400-series receivers, ensuring reliable signal reception and control across the entire range of Spektrum receiver systems commonly used in RC aircraft.
  • JST-SHR Connector — The modern JST-SHR 1.0mm connector provides secure, reliable electrical connections that are standard across contemporary Spektrum servo systems and RC receiver equipment.
  • Brushed Motor Technology — The servo features a brushed motor design optimised for ultra-micro applications, delivering consistent performance and reliability throughout the voltage range supported by small LiPo battery packs.
  • Nylon Gear Construction — Durable nylon gears provide the perfect balance between weight savings and mechanical reliability, reducing the overall servo mass whilst maintaining smooth, responsive operation.
  • Single Bearing Support — The single bearing design keeps weight to an absolute minimum whilst maintaining the precision and smoothness required for responsive aircraft control.
  • Wide Operating Voltage Range (3.2V-4.2V) — Compatible with single-cell LiPo batteries (1S) across their full usable voltage range, this servo adapts to your power system whether running fresh batteries or near-depleted cells.

Technical Performance

The SPM A2030L represents the pinnacle of ultra-micro servo engineering, combining featherweight construction with impressive performance characteristics. Running at maximum servo speed of 0.10 seconds per 60 degrees at the maximum operating voltage of 4.2V, this servo delivers rapid, crisp control response that translates directly to enhanced aircraft handling. The maximum torque output of 3.5 ounces-force per inch at 4.2V is precisely calibrated for the control surface loads encountered on ultra micro aircraft, providing sufficient power to move control surfaces reliably even in moderate wind conditions without wasting energy that would increase power draw and reduce battery life. The servo's brushed motor operates across the full 3.2V to 4.2V voltage window, accommodating the charging cycle of single-cell LiPo batteries from freshly charged state through to their lower operating limit. The linear long-throw design means the servo provides extended travel along its entire operating range, maximising the deflection available to your control surfaces. The nylon gear construction combined with the single bearing support keeps overall weight minimal—essential when every tenth of a gram matters in ultra micro applications—whilst maintaining the mechanical durability required for consistent, reliable operation through hundreds of flights. The JST-SHR connector ensures a secure, polarised connection that prevents installation errors and provides excellent electrical contact throughout your flying sessions. Whether you're operating at sea level or at altitude, in cool conditions or in the warmth of direct sunlight, this servo has been engineered to deliver consistent, predictable performance that you can rely on.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What makes this servo different from a standard micro servo for RC aircraft? — The A2030L is specifically engineered as a long-throw linear servo with a pre-programmed 70/30 offset, designed to provide aileron differential without requiring transmitter programming. Standard servos lack this offset feature and don't provide the extended throw that ultra micro applications often require. This makes the A2030L ideal for modellers building aircraft that benefit from differential control or those using non-programmable radio systems.
  • Is this servo suitable for beginners building their first ultra micro aircraft? — Absolutely. The pre-programmed offset eliminates the need for complex transmitter programming, making installation straightforward for modellers at any experience level. The lightweight design and reliable Spektrum engineering make it an excellent choice for anyone building their first ultra micro model or upgrading from heavier servos.
  • What battery does this servo need, and how do I power it? — The A2030L operates on single-cell LiPo batteries (1S) with a voltage range of 3.2V to 4.2V, which perfectly matches the charging and discharge characteristics of standard 1S LiPo batteries commonly used in ultra micro aircraft. Simply connect the servo signal and power wires to your Spektrum receiver, and power the receiver with your 1S LiPo battery pack.
  • Why would I need aileron differential control on an ultra micro aircraft? — Aileron differential—where the down-going aileron deflects less than the up-going aileron—reduces adverse yaw and improves aircraft handling, particularly during sharp turns and aerobatic manoeuvres. This makes your aircraft more responsive, easier to control precisely, and more enjoyable to fly. The pre-programmed 70/30 offset provides this benefit automatically without requiring manual transmitter adjustments.
  • Is the A2030L compatible with my Spektrum receiver? — Yes, this servo is designed to work with all Spektrum AR6400-series receivers. Check your receiver model number to confirm compatibility before purchasing. The servo connects via the standard JST-SHR connector used across Spektrum servo and receiver equipment.
  • How much torque does this servo provide, and is it enough for my control surfaces? — The servo provides 3.5 ounces-force per inch of torque at 4.2V, which is perfectly matched to the control surface loads on typical ultra micro aircraft. This level of torque is sufficient to move aileron surfaces reliably even in moderate wind conditions, whilst maintaining the lightweight design essential for small aircraft applications.
  • What is the speed rating, and does it matter for aircraft control? — The servo operates at 0.10 seconds per 60 degrees at 4.2V, which is quick enough to provide responsive, crisp control that translates to better aircraft handling and more enjoyable flying. Faster servos respond more immediately to your control inputs, enhancing the precision and feel of your model.
  • Can I programme the offset differently if I want a different differential ratio? — No, this servo is not programmable and arrives pre-configured with its 70/30 offset from the factory. This fixed programming is actually a benefit for modellers without computer transmitters—you get professional differential tuning without requiring any programming knowledge or equipment.
