Key Features
- CNC Steel Construction — This pinion gear is manufactured using precision CNC machining from hardened steel, ensuring superior durability, consistent tooth engagement and resistance to wear compared to standard plastic alternatives. Steel pinions maintain their accuracy over extended use, providing reliable performance whether you're racing competitively or enjoying casual RC car fun.
- 28-Tooth Configuration — The 28-tooth count is a popular choice among 1/8 scale RC enthusiasts seeking a balanced approach to acceleration and top speed. This tooth count works seamlessly with standard RC car spur gears to provide responsive handling and solid performance across various driving conditions and track layouts.
- 0.8 Modulus Rating — The 0.8 modulus specification ensures precise mesh alignment with compatible ARRMA spur gears and drivetrain components. This standardised specification is critical for maintaining smooth power delivery, minimising drivetrain noise and maximising efficiency throughout your RC car's performance envelope.
- 1/8 Inch Bore — The precisely machined 3.2mm bore diameter fits standard 1/8 scale RC car motor shafts and drivetrain assemblies. This specification ensures secure mounting, prevents slippage and guarantees reliable torque transmission from your motor to the wheels of your RC vehicle.
- Precision Replacement Component — This pinion gear is an ideal replacement part for 1/8 scale ARRMA RC cars, allowing you to swap out worn components or experiment with different gear ratios to optimise your RC car's performance characteristics for specific track conditions or driving preferences.
- Authorised ARRMA Component — As an official ARRMA replacement part with part number Z-ARA311090, this pinion gear meets manufacturer specifications and quality standards, ensuring compatibility and reliability with your existing RC car setup.
Technical Performance
The ARRMA 28T 0.8Mod 1/8 inch Bore CNC Steel Pinion Gear represents a significant investment in your 1/8 scale RC car's drivetrain reliability and performance consistency. CNC steel construction provides substantially greater durability than injection-moulded plastic alternatives, resisting deformation under load and maintaining precise tooth geometry through extended use. The 0.8 modulus specification is a standardised measurement in RC hobby engineering, denoting the relationship between tooth size and the gear's pitch diameter — this ensures perfect meshing compatibility with ARRMA's spur gear range and maximises power transfer efficiency. The 28-tooth count strikes an excellent balance for 1/8 scale driving, offering responsive acceleration whilst maintaining reasonable top speed capabilities. The 3.2mm bore diameter (1/8 inch specification) accommodates standard RC car motor shafts, providing a secure fit that eliminates slippage and ensures all engine torque is effectively transmitted to your RC vehicle's wheels. This precision-engineered component is essential for drivers seeking reliable, consistent performance in competitive racing environments or casual RC fun across UK tracks and terrain.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pinion gear and why would I need to replace it on my RC car? — A pinion gear is a small, high-speed gear mounted on your RC car's motor shaft that meshes with the larger spur gear to transmit power to the wheels. Over time, pinion gears experience wear from constant engagement, particularly during competitive racing or intensive bashing. Replacing a worn pinion gear restores smooth power delivery, eliminates drivetrain noise and vibration, and prevents potential damage to your spur gear. Additionally, swapping pinion gears with different tooth counts allows you to adjust your RC car's gear ratio, effectively tuning acceleration and top speed characteristics to match specific track conditions or your driving preferences.
- How does tooth count affect my RC car's performance? — Pinion gear tooth count directly influences your vehicle's acceleration and maximum speed characteristics. A higher tooth count (like this 28T option) results in slightly lower top speed but improved acceleration and torque response — ideal for technical tracks with tight corners. Conversely, lower tooth count pinions favour top-end speed over initial acceleration. The 28-tooth configuration offers an excellent middle-ground balance suitable for most 1/8 scale RC driving scenarios, whether you're enjoying casual weekend bashing or competitive racing across UK tracks.
- Is this pinion gear compatible with all ARRMA 1/8 scale RC cars? — This 28T 0.8Mod pinion gear with 1/8 inch bore is designed for ARRMA 1/8 scale RC vehicles that utilise 0.8 modulus drivetrain systems. Compatibility depends on your specific ARRMA model and its drivetrain specifications. We recommend verifying your RC car's current pinion gear tooth count and modulus rating before ordering. Consult your vehicle's manual or contact our knowledgeable team at RC Model Shop to confirm compatibility with your particular ARRMA model.
- What advantages does CNC steel construction offer over plastic pinion gears? — CNC steel pinion gears offer dramatically superior durability, precision and longevity compared to injection-moulded plastic alternatives. Steel resists deformation under load, maintains consistent tooth geometry through extended use, and experiences significantly less wear during competitive racing. Steel pinions also mesh more quietly with spur gears, reducing drivetrain noise and vibration. Whilst steel pinions require slightly more careful maintenance and may cost more upfront, their extended lifespan and superior performance characteristics make them the preferred choice for serious RC enthusiasts and competitive racers across the UK.
- How do I install this pinion gear on my 1/8 scale RC car? — Installation requires removing your motor assembly from your RC car's chassis, then sliding the new pinion gear onto the motor's shaft (removing the old one first). The gear should slide on smoothly and sit flush against the motor shaft collar or retaining clip. Most ARRMA vehicles use a small clip or set screw to secure the pinion gear. Ensure proper alignment with your spur gear before reassembly, check for smooth rotation without binding, and verify correct mesh gap (typically 0.5-1mm). Consult your specific ARRMA model's manual for detailed installation instructions, or contact our experienced team for guidance.
- Can I mix and match pinion and spur gears from different manufacturers? — No — pinion and spur gears must use matching modulus specifications (in this case 0.8 modulus) to ensure proper mesh alignment and smooth power delivery. Mixing different modulus ratings causes meshing problems, increases drivetrain wear, generates excessive noise and can damage your RC car's drivetrain. Always pair this 0.8Mod ARRMA pinion gear with a compatible 0.8 modulus ARRMA spur gear to guarantee optimal performance and longevity.
- What is modulus and why does it matter for my RC car's drivetrain? — Modulus is a standardised measurement in gear engineering describing the relationship between a gear's pitch diameter and its tooth count. The 0.8 modulus specification on this pinion gear indicates it is designed to mesh precisely with 0.8 modulus spur gears — this standardisation ensures consistent tooth engagement, smooth power delivery and minimal backlash. Using correctly matched modulus ratings is critical for maintaining drivetrain efficiency, reducing wear and preventing noise and performance issues in your RC car.
- Is the 1/8 inch bore compatible with my motor shaft? — The 1/8 inch (3.2mm) bore on this pinion gear is the standard specification for 1/8 scale ARRMA RC cars. However, motor shafts can vary slightly in size, and some vehicles may use slightly different bore specifications. Before ordering, measure your motor shaft diameter or check your ARRMA model's specifications to confirm compatibility. Our knowledgeable team at RC Model Shop can assist if you're uncertain about bore compatibility for your specific vehicle.
