Overview
The ARRMA 29T Mod1 Safe-D8 Pinion Gear Z-ARA311049 is an essential replacement component for RC enthusiasts and serious bashers who demand precision engineering and reliability from their RC car upgrades. Whether you're running an ARRMA RC vehicle and need to replace a worn pinion gear, or you're optimising your setup for different performance characteristics, this genuine OEM pinion gear delivers the quality and fit you can depend on. As a dedicated RC car UK retailer, we understand that choosing the right gearing is crucial to getting the most from your brushless RC vehicle, and this Mod1 pinion gear is engineered to exacting standards by ARRMA to ensure perfect mesh with your spur gear and consistent performance lap after lap.
Pinion gears are one of the most critical drivetrain components in any RC car, directly affecting acceleration, top speed, and overall power delivery. The ARRMA 29T Mod1 Safe-D8 Pinion Gear is designed as a direct replacement part, making it ideal for bashers, racers, and weekend warriors who need authentic ARRMA components that fit perfectly every time. The Safe-D8 bore ensures secure mounting and eliminates the frustration of slippage or wobbling that can occur with inferior aftermarket gears. If you're building or maintaining a ready to run RC vehicle, having quality replacement gears in your spares kit is simply good practice.
ARRMA's commitment to engineering excellence means every tooth is precisely cut to Mod1 specifications, ensuring smooth engagement with your spur gear and minimal wear over extended use. This isn't just another generic pinion gear—it's an OEM component designed specifically for ARRMA RC vehicles, giving you confidence that your drivetrain will perform as intended.
Key Features
- 29 Teeth (29-30T Range) — This tooth count places the gear in the mid-range of the ARRMA pinion gear spectrum, offering a balanced blend of acceleration and top speed that suits most bashers and recreational drivers rather than extreme drag or crawling applications.
- Mod1 Gear Pitch — The Mod1 specification means this pinion gear is precisely engineered to mesh perfectly with ARRMA spur gears also specified as Mod1, ensuring tight tolerances and smooth power delivery without backlash or grinding noises during acceleration and deceleration.
- Safe-D8 Bore — The Safe-D8 bore type provides a secure, reliable connection to your motor shaft, preventing the gear from slipping under load or during hard acceleration, which is essential for maintaining consistent performance and avoiding mid-run failures.
- Genuine ARRMA Component — As an official ARRMA part number Z-ARA311049, you can be confident this is authentic OEM specification, guaranteeing compatibility and quality standards that match the engineering of your ARRMA RC vehicle.
- Precision-Cut Teeth — Every tooth is cut with precision to ensure smooth engagement with your spur gear, reducing wear, minimising noise, and extending the service life of both gears in your drivetrain.
Technical Performance
The ARRMA 29T Mod1 Safe-D8 Pinion Gear is manufactured to exacting specifications using quality materials and precision manufacturing processes. With 29 teeth and Mod1 pitch, this gear offers a balanced gearing option suitable for a wide variety of driving styles and terrain conditions. The Safe-D8 bore design eliminates concerns about gear slip, a common problem that can plague RC cars when inadequate bore specifications allow the gear to rotate independently of the motor shaft. The Mod1 specification is critical—it ensures this pinion gear will mesh perfectly with Mod1 spur gears, maintaining the precise tolerances necessary for smooth power delivery and minimising the parasitic losses that come from poor gear mesh. Whether you're upgrading your RC car UK setup or simply replacing a worn component in your existing ARRMA vehicle, the precision engineering of this pinion gear means you can expect reliable performance session after session. The tooth profile is designed to distribute force evenly across the engagement surface, reducing stress concentrations and extending gear lifespan. For anyone running brushless RC vehicles with ARRMA drivetrains, having a selection of pinion gears in different tooth counts is a sensible approach to dialling in your exact performance requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pinion gear and why do I need to replace it? — A pinion gear is the small gear on your motor shaft that drives the larger spur gear, transferring power from the motor to the wheels. Over time, through normal wear, crashes, or intentional upgrades to change your gearing ratio, pinion gears can become damaged or worn. Replacing it with a quality OEM component like the ARRMA 29T ensures optimal drivetrain performance and longevity.
- Will this pinion gear fit my ARRMA RC car? — This is a genuine ARRMA part number Z-ARA311049 with Safe-D8 bore, so it will fit any ARRMA vehicle designed to accept Mod1 pinion gears with Safe-D8 bore specification. Always verify your vehicle's documentation to confirm Mod1 compatibility before purchasing.
- What does Mod1 mean and why does it matter? — Mod1 refers to the gear pitch specification, which determines how the teeth are sized and spaced. Mod1 gears are designed to mesh with other Mod1 gears (like your spur gear). Using mismatched pitches will result in poor mesh, excessive wear, noise, and potential drivetrain failure, so matching specifications is absolutely critical.
- What is the Safe-D8 bore? — Safe-D8 is a specific bore specification designed by ARRMA to provide a secure connection between your motor shaft and the pinion gear. It prevents slippage under load and is a key feature of quality ARRMA drivetrains. Ensure your motor shaft matches this specification.
- How do I know which pinion gear tooth count I need? — The tooth count affects your gear ratio. Fewer teeth (like 25T) provide more top speed but less acceleration, whilst more teeth (like 35T) provide more acceleration but lower top speed. The 29T tooth count on this gear offers a mid-range balance suitable for most driving styles. Consult your vehicle's manual or your local RC shop for guidance.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — This is a replacement component rather than a complete vehicle, so it's designed for users who already have an ARRMA RC car and understand basic maintenance. If you're new to RC, we recommend purchasing a ready to run RC vehicle and learning basic operation before attempting drivetrain component replacements.
- What should I do with my old pinion gear? — If your old gear is only worn but not damaged, it may be reusable for training vehicles or kept as a spare. Damaged gears should be disposed of responsibly. Many RC shops accept old components for recycling.
