Overview
The ARRMA 28T Mod1 Safe-D8 Pinion Gear Z-ARA311048 is a precision-engineered pinion gear designed for high-performance RC cars and competitive racing applications. This genuine ARRMA component is essential for anyone looking to fine-tune their RC vehicle's performance and achieve optimal gearing ratios for their specific driving conditions. Whether you're a serious competitor pushing for lap records, a weekend basher enjoying high-speed runs, or an RC enthusiast in the UK looking to upgrade your vehicle's drivetrain, this pinion gear offers the reliability and precision that ARRMA is known for across their entire RC car range.
Pinion gears are a critical component in any RC car's transmission system, working in conjunction with your vehicle's spur gear to determine your final gear ratio, top speed, and acceleration characteristics. The correct pinion gear selection can make the difference between sluggish acceleration and lightning-quick response, or between excessive motor load and optimised power delivery. For anyone serious about RC performance in the UK market, having a selection of different tooth-count pinion gears allows you to adapt your setup to different tracks, weather conditions, and driving styles. This 28-tooth pinion represents a mid-range option perfect for balanced performance.
ARRMA has built a reputation for manufacturing high-quality, durable RC vehicles and components that can withstand the demands of serious racing and casual bashing alike. This authentic ARRMA pinion gear is engineered to the same exacting standards as the rest of their component range, ensuring smooth mesh with your spur gear, minimal noise, and maximum efficiency in power transmission from your brushless motor to your wheels.
Key Features
- Mod 1 Gear Pitch — This pinion gear uses Mod 1 gear pitch specification, which defines the size and tooth profile of the gear, ensuring perfect compatibility with other ARRMA Mod 1 components in your drivetrain and guaranteeing smooth, efficient power transfer from your motor to the rest of your vehicle's transmission.
- 28-Tooth Configuration — With 28 teeth, this pinion gear sits in the mid-range of tooth counts, offering a balanced compromise between acceleration and top speed, making it an excellent choice for mixed-terrain driving and general-purpose RC car use across various UK track conditions.
- Safe-D8 Bore — The Safe-D8 bore design provides a secure, interference-fit connection to your motor shaft, preventing slippage during hard acceleration and ensuring consistent power delivery even during extreme driving demands, which is crucial for maintaining lap-time consistency in competitive racing.
- Genuine ARRMA Component — As an official ARRMA part manufactured to factory specifications, this pinion gear guarantees compatibility with ARRMA RC vehicles and other components, ensuring that you're getting a product engineered specifically for optimal performance within the ARRMA ecosystem.
- Precision Manufacturing — ARRMA's manufacturing processes ensure tight tolerances and consistent quality, meaning each pinion gear meshes perfectly with spur gears and minimises backlash, noise, and wear, extending the lifespan of your entire drivetrain.
Technical Performance
The ARRMA 28T Mod1 Safe-D8 Pinion Gear represents a carefully engineered component that plays a vital role in determining your RC car's performance characteristics. The Mod 1 pitch standard ensures that this gear integrates seamlessly with ARRMA's spur gears and other drivetrain components, providing smooth engagement and reliable power transmission. At 28 teeth, this pinion delivers a balanced gearing option that prevents excessive motor strain while still allowing for competitive acceleration and speed across a range of driving environments. The Safe-D8 bore specification indicates a 8mm diameter bore with ARRMA's secure engagement system, providing the kind of reliability required for high-performance RC racing where drivetrain failure is not an option. Whether you're running this gear in competitive track racing or recreational bashing sessions, the precision engineering ensures minimal loss of power through the drivetrain, allowing your brushless motor to deliver maximum efficiency to the wheels. The gear's construction utilises durable materials capable of handling the torque and stress associated with hard acceleration, cornering forces, and prolonged high-speed running. RC enthusiasts in the UK who understand drivetrain tuning recognise that having multiple pinion gear options allows them to optimise their vehicles for different conditions, seasons, and track layouts, making this an essential spare part for any serious ARRMA RC car owner.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pinion gear and why do I need one for my RC car? — A pinion gear is a small gear mounted on your RC car's motor shaft that meshes with the larger spur gear to transfer power from your motor to the wheels. The pinion gear's tooth count directly affects your vehicle's final gear ratio, which determines acceleration and top speed. Having multiple pinion gears allows you to tune your RC car for different tracks and conditions, making it essential for anyone serious about performance and competitive racing.
- What does Mod 1 gear pitch mean? — Mod 1 (Module 1) defines the size and tooth profile of the gear teeth. Mod 1 is a standard specification used across ARRMA components, ensuring that this pinion gear will mesh perfectly with ARRMA Mod 1 spur gears and other drivetrain components without compatibility issues.
- What is Safe-D8 bore and why is it important? — The Safe-D8 bore refers to an 8mm diameter bore with ARRMA's proprietary secure engagement system. This design prevents the pinion gear from slipping on the motor shaft during acceleration, ensuring consistent, reliable power delivery even under extreme driving stress, which is critical for maintaining performance during competitive racing.
- How many teeth should I choose for my RC car? — Tooth count directly affects your gear ratio: fewer teeth create a higher gear ratio for increased top speed but reduced acceleration, whilst more teeth create a lower gear ratio for better acceleration but lower top speed. The 28-tooth configuration offers a balanced middle ground suitable for mixed driving conditions. Most RC racers keep several pinion gears on hand to adjust for different tracks and seasons.
- Is this compatible with my ARRMA RC car? — The ARRMA 28T Mod1 Safe-D8 Pinion Gear is compatible with ARRMA vehicles that use Mod 1 gearing systems and Safe-D8 bore motor shafts. Check your vehicle's documentation or contact our team at RC Model Shop to confirm compatibility with your specific ARRMA model.
- What is the difference between different tooth-count pinion gears? — The tooth count affects your final gear ratio and therefore your vehicle's performance profile. Higher tooth counts (more teeth) reduce top speed but improve acceleration, whilst lower tooth counts increase top speed but reduce acceleration. The 28-tooth is a mid-range option, with options like 22T for more speed and 26T or higher for more acceleration available.
