Overview

The ARRMA Pinion Gear, 17T Mod1 Safe-D5 is an essential replacement and upgrade component for RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand reliability and precision in their brushless RC vehicles. This tough steel pinion gear is specifically engineered to deliver smooth, consistent power transfer from your brushless motor to the drivetrain, making it a must-have spare part for anyone serious about maintaining their RC car UK collection. Whether you're running an ARRMA Felony, Outcast, TALION, or Typhon 6S model, this pinion gear represents the quality and durability that ARRMA is recognised for in the RC hobby sector.

Built with precision manufacturing standards that match OEM specifications, the 17T Mod1 Safe-D5 pinion gear is the perfect solution for RC basher or racer alike. The innovative Safe-D design prevents loss of drive and braking power if your set-screw backs out during intense off-road sessions, a common issue that has frustrated RC car UK users for years. This gear suits 5mm motor shaft diameters and comes complete with all the hardware you need to get back on the track or trail, including a precision manufactured set-screw and retention e-clip. RC Model Shop stocks this component because we understand that your RC experience depends on reliable spare parts and genuine ARRMA components.

Key Features

  • Strong and Durable Steel Construction — The gear is manufactured from high-quality steel that withstands extreme RC conditions, from high-speed bashings to competitive racing environments, ensuring your RC car UK investment remains running smoothly for years to come.
  • Precision Manufactured Wide Tooth Profile — The wide tooth design delivers smooth, quiet operation with minimal backlash, translating to more efficient power delivery and better overall vehicle responsiveness when you're pushing your RC vehicle to its limits.
  • Safe-D5 Design with Security Feature — The distinctive D-shaped hole matches your motor shaft profile perfectly, and critically, it prevents drive and brake loss if your set-screw accidentally backs out during intense driving sessions, giving you peace of mind and reliability.
  • 5mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — Designed specifically for 5mm diameter motor shafts, this pinion gear fits seamlessly into ARRMA's 6S brushless RC vehicles and ensures proper alignment and engagement with your spur gear.
  • Precision Manufactured Threaded Set-Screw Hole — The carefully machined threaded hole accepts the included M4 x 4mm set-screw, providing secure fastening that holds firm even under the demands of high-performance RC driving.
  • Complete Hardware Included — Every purchase includes not just the pinion gear itself, but also the M4 x 4mm set-screw and 3.2mm e-clip for motor shaft pinion retention, meaning you have everything needed for installation right out of the box.

Technical Performance

The ARRMA 17T Mod1 Safe-D5 Pinion Gear represents the pinnacle of RC drivetrain engineering for mid-range gear ratio setups. With 17 teeth and Mod1 pitch, this pinion gear is optimised for balanced performance across a wide range of ARRMA 6S brushless RC vehicles, delivering the right combination of acceleration and top speed for both competitive and recreational driving. The wide tooth profile design ensures that power transfer from your brushless motor remains smooth and efficient, reducing noise and vibration whilst maximising the lifespan of both this gear and your spur gear. The Safe-D5 bore design is not merely a cosmetic feature—it's a functional engineering solution that has become an industry standard for precision RC vehicles. The steel construction provides superior wear resistance compared to plastic alternatives, meaning this gear will maintain its tooth profile integrity through hundreds of driving sessions. Whether you're upgrading from an older model or replacing a worn component on your existing ARRMA 6S brushless RC car, this pinion gear delivers the reliability and performance that RC enthusiasts throughout the UK have come to expect from ARRMA's genuine parts lineup.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a Safe-D5 bore and why does it matter for my RC car UK? — The Safe-D5 bore features a distinctive D-shaped hole that matches the profile of your motor shaft perfectly. This design is crucial because it prevents your drive and braking power from being lost if the set-screw backing out, a common problem in high-performance RC vehicles. This safety feature has become the recognised standard in the brushless RC hobby, particularly for vehicles operating at 6S voltage levels.
  • Which ARRMA RC vehicles is this pinion gear compatible with? — The ARRMA 17T Mod1 Safe-D5 Pinion Gear is compatible with several popular ARRMA 6S brushless RC models, including the Felony 6S BLX (both Orange and Black versions), the 1/5 Outcast 4X4 8S BLX EXB Brushless Stunt Truck, the 1/7 TALION 6S EXB 4X4 RTR Speed Truck in Black, and the Typhon 6S V5 BLX. Always verify your specific model before ordering to ensure compatibility.
  • Is this a replacement part or an upgrade? — This is a genuine OEM replacement pinion gear that matches the specifications of the original component fitted to ARRMA 6S brushless vehicles. It can be used as a direct replacement if your current gear is worn or damaged, or as an upgrade if you're building a new vehicle or restoring an older model to factory specification.
  • What does Mod1 pitch mean? — Mod1 (Module 1) refers to the pitch of the gear teeth, which determines how the pinion engages with your spur gear. Mod1 is a standard pitch used across the RC hobby and ensures proper meshing with compatible spur gears. Using the correct pitch is essential for smooth operation and durability.
  • Do I need any tools to install this pinion gear? — Installation requires a small hex key or Allen wrench to tighten the M4 x 4mm set-screw, which most RC enthusiasts already have in their tool kit. The e-clip included provides additional security and is simple to install by hand.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — The lifespan of your pinion gear depends on how frequently you run your RC vehicle and the driving conditions. Steel gears like this one are extremely durable and should last for hundreds of driving sessions with proper maintenance. Inspect it regularly for wear, and replace it if you notice damaged or worn teeth affecting performance.
