Technical Performance
The Blade Main Blade Grips (Z-BLH3401) are precision-engineered components that play a fundamental role in the main rotor head assembly of the Blade 180 CFX micro helicopter. These grips interface directly with the feathering spindle and swashplate mechanism, translating pilot control inputs into precise blade pitch adjustments that govern lift, stability and directional control. The engineering tolerances in these components are exceptionally tight, as even minor variations can affect blade tracking and flight stability. Blade's manufacturing standards ensure that replacement grips maintain the same performance characteristics as the original components, allowing you to restore your helicopter to its intended flight envelope. The material composition and design of the grips have been optimised for durability under the cyclic stresses imposed by helicopter rotor dynamics, whilst remaining lightweight to minimise inertial loads on the main shaft and bearing assemblies. For UK RC helicopter enthusiasts, maintaining access to genuine Blade spare parts like these grips is essential for keeping your 180 CFX flying reliably. When combined with other key components such as the feathering spindle set, rotor head block and main shaft set, the blade grips ensure that the entire main rotor head assembly functions as an integrated system delivering precise, predictable control response.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are these blade grips compatible with my Blade 180 CFX helicopter? — Yes, the Z-BLH3401 main blade grips are engineered specifically for the Blade 180 CFX micro helicopter platform. To confirm compatibility, check the part number on your original grips or consult your helicopter manual. RC Model Shop recommends matching the Blade part number from your manual or original component to ensure perfect fit and function.
- Why do I need to replace my blade grips? — Blade grips may require replacement after crash damage, normal wear from extended flying, or as part of a preventive maintenance programme. Even minor cracks or stress marks can affect blade pitch control precision and flight stability, so replacement ensures your helicopter maintains optimal performance. Keeping spare blade grips in your repair kit allows you to get back in the air quickly after incidents.
- How difficult is it to install these blade grips? — Installation difficulty depends on your mechanical experience and familiarity with helicopter rotor head assemblies. The grips form part of the main rotor head assembly and require removal of the rotor mast and other components. RC Model Shop recommends consulting your Blade 180 CFX manual for detailed installation instructions. After installation, you should check blade balance, apply thread-lock to metal-to-metal fasteners as required, and reset your helicopter's pitch and gyro settings to ensure correct control response.
- What other parts might I need to order with my blade grips? — When replacing blade grips, consider ordering a complete feathering spindle set (BLH3403), rotor head block (BLH3404), and rotor head linkage set (BLH3405) to ensure all components in the main rotor head assembly are in good condition. If you're experiencing vibration or tracking issues, the main bearing block set (BLH3411) and main shaft set (BLH3407) may also require inspection. RC Model Shop carries all of these components in stock or can advise on availability.
- Should I replace other rotor head components when I replace the blade grips? — For optimal results, RC Model Shop recommends inspecting the complete rotor head assembly including the feathering spindle, swashplate, rotor head block and linkages. If you're rebuilding after a significant crash, consider replacing the main shaft set and bearings together with the blade grips to maintain smooth tracking and eliminate potential wobbles or vibrations. This approach ensures that all components in the assembly are fresh and properly aligned.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Blade 180 CFX helicopters are genuinely beginner-friendly platforms, but blade grip replacement requires mechanical confidence and familiarity with rotor head assembly. Beginners should refer to detailed manuals, online guides or seek assistance from experienced RC helicopter flyers before attempting rotor head work. The good news is that these parts are relatively affordable, so keeping spares on hand is practical insurance against the inevitable learning curve crashes.
- Where can I find installation guides for blade grip replacement? — Your Blade 180 CFX manual contains detailed exploded diagrams and assembly instructions for the rotor head assembly. Many UK RC helicopter forums and YouTube channels also feature detailed 180 CFX build and repair tutorials. RC Model Shop staff can provide advice on compatibility and sourcing related parts, helping you source everything needed for your repair project.
