Technical Performance
The SPM Aircraft RPM Sensor represents the pinnacle of telemetry engineering from Spektrum, the undisputed leader in spread spectrum technology for RC applications. Built with precision instrumentation and high-quality materials, this sensor delivers accurate RPM measurements across the full operating range of RC aircraft and helicopter powerplants. The sensor utilises proven Spektrum DualLink diversity technology, which intelligently switches between multiple frequency paths to ensure uninterrupted data transmission, even in electromagnetically noisy environments where conventional systems might struggle. The plastic construction is engineered to withstand vibration, temperature variations, and the operational stresses of sustained RC flight operations. Installation is straightforward thanks to the standard servo plug interface and the pre-assembled 6-inch telemetry interconnect lead, which eliminates guesswork during setup. The included mounting bracket provides secure, repeatable positioning that minimises measurement errors caused by vibration or sensor movement. For helicopter operators, the integration with the AR7200BX receiver's governor system enables real-time rotor speed monitoring and automatic correction, resulting in stable flight characteristics across varying flight conditions. The compact footprint ensures that weight addition to your aircraft is minimal, preserving flight performance and handling characteristics. Whether you're running a small electric motor in a trainer aircraft, a nitro engine in a sport plane, or a turbine in a scale model, this sensor accurately captures performance data that helps you optimise engine tuning, monitor component health, and maximise flight efficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Which RC helicopters and aircraft work with this RPM sensor? — The SPM Aircraft RPM Sensor is designed for use with Spektrum receivers, including the AR7200BX and AR7300BX systems. It works with any RC helicopter or fixed-wing aircraft that uses these compatible Spektrum receivers. Helicopter users will particularly benefit from the governor integration available on the AR7200BX, whilst fixed-wing pilots can use the sensor with any compatible receiver in their aircraft.
- How does the RPM sensor help with helicopter performance? — When connected to the AR7200BX receiver, the RPM sensor provides real-time rotor speed data to the helicopter's governor system. This allows the governor to automatically adjust throttle to maintain consistent rotor RPM across varying flight conditions, resulting in stable lift and predictable handling characteristics that make your helicopter easier and safer to fly.
- Is installation complicated or do I need technical expertise? — Installation is designed to be straightforward and plug-and-play. The sensor uses a standard servo plug that connects directly to your receiver, and the 6-inch telemetry lead is pre-assembled. Simply mount the sensor in your aircraft using the included bracket, connect the lead to your receiver, and pair it with the SPM9548 Telemetry Module. No calibration or complex setup is required.
- What is DualLink technology and why does it matter? — Spektrum's DualLink technology provides superior frequency path diversity, meaning the system automatically selects the best available frequency path for data transmission. This makes the sensor extremely reliable even in electrically noisy environments where single-frequency systems might lose signal. For RC pilots, this means consistent, uninterrupted telemetry data throughout your flight.
- Do I need the SPM9548 Telemetry Module to use this sensor? — Yes, the sensor is designed to work in conjunction with the SPM9548 Telemetry Module. The module processes the RPM data from the sensor and displays it on compatible telemetry screens or transmitters, allowing you to monitor engine performance in real-time during flight.
- Can I use this sensor with fixed-wing aircraft as well as helicopters? — Absolutely. The sensor accurately measures motor RPM in both electric-powered and nitro-powered fixed-wing aircraft. This allows you to optimise cruise conditions, monitor engine health, and adjust flying technique based on real-time performance data, making it valuable for RC aeroplane enthusiasts of all types.
- What is the build quality and will it survive regular flying? — The sensor is constructed from high-quality plastic engineered to withstand vibration, temperature variations, and the stresses of regular RC flight. The mounting bracket provides secure, vibration-resistant installation, and the overall design is built for durability and long-term reliability in demanding RC flying conditions.
