Overview

The LOGIC Heat Shrink (1m Red/1m Black) 6.0mm O-LG-HS06 is an essential accessory for any RC enthusiast working with electrical connections and wiring projects. Whether you're building a brushless RC car, setting up an electric RC aircraft, or maintaining your radio control equipment, professional-quality heat shrink tubing is a must-have in your workshop. This twin pack delivers 1 metre of red and 1 metre of black 6.0mm heat shrink tubing, giving you the flexibility to colour-code your connections for safer, more organised builds.

Heat shrink tubing is fundamental to any RC hobbyist's toolkit, offering neat cable insulation, terminal protection, and professional-looking finishes to your electrical work. The 6.0mm size is perfectly suited for use over 6mm diameter wires, making it ideal for battery leads, motor connections, and ESC wiring on RC cars, RC boats, and RC aircraft. When heated, this tubing shrinks down to create a tight, protective sleeve that keeps moisture out and provides mechanical protection for your valuable components.

RC Model Shop stocks a comprehensive range of heat shrink sizes from 1.5mm through to 90mm, but the 6.0mm option remains one of the most popular choices for general RC work. With flame-retardant properties and low smoke output, LOGIC heat shrink meets professional standards for safety and performance. Whether you're a seasoned RC racer fine-tuning a competition machine, a weekend basher upgrading your brushless RC truck, or a beginner learning to solder your first battery connectors, quality heat shrink tubing ensures your builds look professional and last longer.

Key Features

  • Twin Pack Red and Black — Each pack contains 1 metre of vibrant red heat shrink and 1 metre of black heat shrink, allowing you to colour-code positive and negative connections for safety and clarity in your RC builds.
  • 6.0mm Pre-Shrunk Diameter — The 6.0mm nominal expanded diameter is sized to comfortably fit over 6mm diameter wire, with an internal diameter approximately 20% larger than the nominal size to ensure easy sliding onto your connections before heating.
  • Approximately 3:1 Shrink Ratio — When heated, the 6.0mm tubing recovers or shrinks to approximately 2.0mm, providing a snug, professional-grade seal around your wiring.
  • Flexible and Durable Construction — The tubing remains flexible even after shrinking, allowing it to conform to irregular shapes and maintain its protective properties during vibration and movement in your RC model.
  • Flame Retardant Properties — LOGIC heat shrink is manufactured with flame retardant materials, offering enhanced safety for your RC electrical systems and reducing the risk of fire propagation if exposed to heat or sparks.
  • Low Smoke Output — If exposed to flame, this tubing produces minimal smoke, making it safer to use in indoor workshops and during extended RC building sessions.
  • Wide Operating Temperature Range — Rated from -45°C to 125°C, this heat shrink maintains its protective qualities across a broad range of environmental conditions, from cold winter RC bashing sessions to hot summer racing events.
  • Activation Temperature of 125°C — The tubing shrinks efficiently when heated to 125°C, achievable with a standard heat gun, hair dryer set to high, or even careful use of a soldering iron tip, making application straightforward for RC enthusiasts of all experience levels.
  • Professional Cable Insulation — Ideal for insulating soldered connections on battery leads, motor wires, and ESC connections, providing reliable protection against short circuits and corrosion.
  • Colour Coding Capability — The red and black combination allows you to follow standard polarity conventions (red for positive, black for negative/ground), making electrical troubleshooting and maintenance easier for future work on your RC models.

Technical Performance

LOGIC heat shrink tubing represents professional-grade electrical protection engineering designed specifically for the demands of radio control hobbies. The 6.0mm size offers the perfect balance between versatility and practicality, working effectively with the battery leads, motor connectors, and ESC wiring found in most modern RC vehicles. The un-shrunk expanded diameter of 7.2mm provides sufficient clearance for easy installation over 6mm diameter wires, whilst the recovered shrunk diameter of 2.4mm creates a compact, sealed connection that resists moisture ingress and mechanical damage. The lay flat width specification of 11.3mm indicates the width of the tubing when squashed flat, calculated by multiplying the internal diameter by approximately 1.57 — useful information when planning your cable layouts in confined spaces within RC car chassis, aircraft fuselages, or boat hulls. Built from flexible, flame-retardant materials, this tubing withstands the temperature fluctuations common in RC operations, from the cooling-down period after a hot brushless motor run to storage in unheated garages during winter months. The shrink ratio of approximately 3:1 means that 1 metre of pre-shrunk tubing provides substantial coverage for multiple connections, making this pack excellent value for both individual projects and ongoing RC maintenance work. Whether you're installing silicone wiring on a 6S LiPo battery pack for a high-performance RC buggy, protecting soldered connections on a brushless ESC, or insulating motor leads on an electric RC plane, LOGIC heat shrink delivers reliable, long-lasting performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between the 6.0mm heat shrink and other sizes in the LOGIC range? — The 6.0mm heat shrink is sized to fit over 6mm diameter wire, making it ideal for main battery leads and motor connectors on most brushless RC cars, boats, and aircraft. Smaller sizes like 2.0mm and 3.0mm suit signal wires and receiver connections, whilst larger sizes like 8.0mm and 10.0mm work for heavier-gauge battery cables on high-powered systems. LOGIC offers sizes from 1.5mm through to 90mm to cover every RC electrical application.
  • How do I apply heat shrink tubing to my RC model connections? — Slide the heat shrink tubing over your wire or connector before soldering. Once your solder joint has cooled, use a heat gun, hair dryer on high setting, or carefully apply heat from a soldering iron to shrink the tubing. The tubing will contract to approximately one-third of its original diameter at 125°C activation temperature. Work carefully to avoid overheating, which may damage your wiring insulation underneath.
  • Is this suitable for high-amperage battery leads on brushless RC vehicles? — Yes, the 6.0mm size is perfectly suited for main battery connectors and motor leads on brushless RC cars and trucks. The flame-retardant properties and low-smoke characteristics make it an excellent choice for high-current applications where reliability and safety are paramount. For extremely high-amperage setups exceeding 200A, you may wish to use the larger 8.0mm or 10.0mm options for additional coverage.
  • What is the shrink ratio and what does it mean? — LOGIC heat shrink has an approximate 3:1 shrink ratio, meaning 6.0mm tubing will recover to approximately 2.0mm when heated. This significant size reduction ensures a snug, protective fit around your connections without excessive material bunching. The lay flat width of 11.3mm helps you plan cable routing in tight RC model chassis spaces.
  • Can I use this heat shrink with soldering? — Absolutely. Always slide the heat shrink tubing onto your wire before soldering — trying to fit it over a soldered joint is difficult. After soldering and allowing the connection to cool, apply heat to shrink the tubing and create a professional-grade insulated connection. The 125°C activation temperature is higher than typical soldering temperatures, so there is no risk of premature shrinking during the soldering process.
  • Does LOGIC heat shrink work at freezing temperatures? — Yes, LOGIC heat shrink is rated for operating temperatures from -45°C to 125°C, meaning it maintains its protective properties even during winter RC bashing sessions or storage in cold sheds. This wide temperature range makes it suitable for RC use in all UK weather conditions throughout the year.
  • Why choose red and black colours? — The red and black combination allows you to follow standard electrical conventions: red for positive connections and black for negative/ground connections. This colour-coding system makes electrical troubleshooting faster and reduces the risk of incorrectly polarised connections when working on multiple RC projects. It's a professional practice used throughout the electronics and automotive industries.
  • How much coverage does 1 metre of heat shrink provide? — One metre of 6.0mm heat shrink provides substantial coverage for multiple connections. Depending on the length of individual connections you're protecting (typically 10-20mm per application), you can expect to complete 50-100 separate connections with both the red and black lengths combined, making this pack excellent value for regular RC builders and maintainers.
