Overview
The Spektrum Firma 80T Rebuildable 3-Pole Brushed Crawler Motor is an impressive low-cost upgrade for brushed ESC equipped 1/10th scale crawlers and scalers across the UK. Whether you're a seasoned RC enthusiast or just getting started with RC car hobby in the United Kingdom, this fully rebuildable motor offers the perfect balance of performance, value and ease of maintenance. The 80-turn configuration delivers excellent torque characteristics ideal for technical crawling and scaling, making it a popular choice amongst RC crawler fans who demand reliability without breaking the bank.
Designed with the trail enthusiast in mind, this ready to run RC motor solution requires minimal setup and no soldering thanks to pre-installed wires and 3.5mm bullet connectors. The three-pole design represents the industry standard for maximum torque and efficiency, giving your 1/10th scale RC vehicle the grunt it needs to conquer challenging terrain. With its fully rebuildable construction, you'll enjoy extended motor lifespan and simple maintenance procedures that keep your RC crawler performing at its best, season after season.
As an authorised Spektrum dealer, RC Model Shop stocks genuine Firma motors that deliver consistent performance and reliability. The 80T variant sits perfectly in the middle of Spektrum's Firma range—available in 35, 55, and 80-turn configurations—offering a sweet spot for most 1/10th scale crawler builds whether you're running a Traxxas TRX-4, Axial SCX10, or any other modern RC crawler platform.
Key Features
- 3-Pole Motor Design — This industry-standard configuration maximises torque output and motor efficiency, which means your RC crawler will have the pulling power needed for steep climbs and rocky terrain whilst maintaining excellent energy efficiency from your battery pack.
- 80-Turn Configuration — The 80-turn winding provides the optimal balance between speed and torque for 1/10th scale crawlers, sitting right in the middle of Spektrum's range and suiting most standard RC crawler ESC setups without requiring special electronics.
- Fully Rebuildable Construction — Unlike sealed motors, this design allows you to replace worn brushes, springs, and bearings individually, extending motor lifespan significantly and reducing long-term ownership costs for serious RC enthusiasts.
- Adjustable Timing 0-20 Degrees — Advanced users can fine-tune timing adjustments for both clockwise and counterclockwise motor rotation, unlocking expert-level performance tuning and increased power delivery when you're ready to optimise your setup.
- Pre-Shaped Curved Face Brushes — These brushes require absolutely no break-in period, meaning you can run your RC crawler at full performance immediately out of the box without the typical bedding-in process other motors demand.
- No Soldering Required — Wires and 3.5mm bullet connectors arrive pre-installed, eliminating the need for soldering equipment and making installation a straightforward 10-minute job for any RC hobbyist regardless of experience level.
- 540 Can Size — The universal 540-size motor can fits in most standard 1/10th scale RC crawler chassis, making it a perfect plug-and-play upgrade for existing vehicles without requiring mechanical modifications.
- Dual Rubber Sealed Bearings — Sealed bearing design protects against dirt and moisture ingress, critical for off-road RC crawlers that frequently encounter muddy trails, water crossings and dusty terrain typical of UK RC club venues.
- Accessible Commutator — The easily accessible commutator design simplifies maintenance and allows for quick brush replacement when required, keeping your RC crawler in peak condition with minimal downtime between sessions.
Technical Performance
The Spektrum Firma 80T represents a significant upgrade in performance and longevity for 1/10th scale RC crawlers and scalers. Built with precision-engineered components and quality materials throughout, this motor delivers consistent power delivery across extended running sessions. The three-pole architecture provides maximum torque generation whilst maintaining excellent efficiency, a critical combination for trail vehicles that must climb steep grades and navigate technical terrain. At 540 size, this motor integrates seamlessly with standard 1/10th scale RC crawler platforms, requiring a brushed ESC rated for 40 amps or higher to unlock full performance potential. The motor's rugged construction, featuring sealed dual rubber bearings and an easily accessible commutator, ensures long-term reliability even when exposed to the muddy, wet conditions typical of off-road RC crawler use in the UK. With pre-shaped curved-face brushes that require no break-in period, users can experience immediate full performance without the gradual power curve associated with traditional brush motors, whilst the adjustable timing system (0-20 degrees) provides expert tuning capability for those seeking to optimise every aspect of their RC crawler setup.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Spektrum Firma 80T suitable for beginners new to RC crawlers? — Yes, absolutely. Whilst the adjustable timing feature appeals to advanced users seeking performance tuning, the motor is equally suitable for beginners thanks to its straightforward installation (no soldering required), immediate full performance capability, and forgiving torque characteristics that suit technical crawling. The fully rebuildable design also teaches valuable maintenance skills without intimidating newcomers to the RC hobby.
- What is the difference between the 35T, 55T and 80T Firma motors? — Spektrum offers three turn configurations to suit different crawling styles and terrain. The 35T provides more speed for faster runs on open ground, the 55T offers a middle ground, whilst the 80T (this model) emphasises maximum torque for technical climbing, steep grades and rock crawling—making it the most popular choice for serious 1/10th scale RC crawler enthusiasts in the UK.
- What ESC do I need to run this motor? — You must use a brushed electronic speed controller rated for 40 amps minimum. Do not attempt to run this motor with brushless ESCs or underpowered brushed controllers under 40 amps, as these will not deliver sufficient current and may be damaged. Popular compatible options include the Castle Creations Sidewinder SCT and Hobbywing QuicRun series brushed ESCs.
- Does this motor require break-in? — No, the Spektrum Firma 80T features pre-shaped curved-face brushes that are factory-conditioned, eliminating any break-in period. You can run the motor at full performance immediately upon installation, a major advantage over traditional brush motors that require gradual power increases during initial use.
- Can I rebuild this motor myself? — Yes, that's the entire purpose of the rebuildable design. Brushes, springs, and bearings can all be individually replaced without specialist tools, making maintenance and repairs straightforward for any RC enthusiast. Replacement brush sets and bearing kits are available separately from most RC retailers including RC Model Shop.
- Is the Firma 80T waterproof? — Whilst the motor features dual rubber sealed bearings that provide substantial protection against moisture and dirt ingress, it is not fully waterproof in the traditional sense. The sealed bearings protect the critical internal components effectively for typical wet and muddy RC crawler conditions, but the motor should not be fully submerged. If your vehicle tips in water, remove power immediately and allow the motor to air dry before further use.
- What is the advantage of adjustable timing on an RC motor? — Adjustable timing (0-20 degrees) allows expert users to increase peak performance and efficiency by optimising spark timing characteristics. This feature enables fine-tuning of motor response and power delivery to match specific crawling conditions or terrain types, though default timing settings work excellently for most users without adjustment.
