Whether you're building a custom brushless RC car UK setup or fine-tuning an existing platform, this pinion gear allows you to adjust your gearing ratio to find the perfect balance between acceleration and top speed. Castle Creations has built a reputation for quality in the RC hobby, and this component exemplifies their commitment to precision manufacturing and reliable performance.
This 11T MOD1 pinion is specifically designed for brushless motors featuring a 5mm shaft, making it compatible with a wide range of contemporary RC vehicles, particularly 1/8 scale platforms that use MOD1 spur gears. The straightforward design means installation is quick and hassle-free, allowing you to experiment with different gearing combinations to optimise your vehicle's performance. Whether you're a competitive racer looking to dial in the perfect ratio or an enthusiast keen to explore how gearing affects handling and speed, this Castle Creations pinion offers a practical solution.
Gearing is one of the most cost-effective performance modifications available to RC enthusiasts in the UK. By selecting different pinion teeth counts and pairing them with appropriate spur gears, you can tailor your vehicle's characteristics to suit specific track conditions, driving styles, or performance goals. The Castle Creations 11T MOD1 pinion represents an essential building block in this customisation process.
Key Features
- 11 Tooth Count — The 11-tooth design provides a specific gear ratio option that, when paired with MOD1 spur gears, allows you to adjust the balance between acceleration and top speed according to your driving preferences and track conditions.
- MOD1 Module Specification — This pinion conforms to MOD1 (Modulus 1.0) standards, ensuring perfect meshing compatibility with MOD1 spur gears commonly found on many 1/8 scale RC platforms, eliminating compatibility guesswork.
- 5mm Shaft Bore — The precisely machined 5mm shaft bore is designed to fit brushless motors with 5mm shafts, which are standard on most modern brushless RC vehicles, providing a secure and reliable fit.
- Castle Creations Quality — Manufactured by Castle Creations, a brand recognised for precision engineering and durability in the RC motorsport community, this pinion is built to withstand the demands of serious RC enthusiasts.
- Easy Gearing Adjustments — By changing pinion teeth counts, you can quickly experiment with different gearing ratios without needing to replace your spur gear, making performance tuning accessible and affordable.
- Straightforward Installation — The standard MOD1 design means this pinion installs using familiar methods and tools, requiring no special equipment or modifications to your existing setup.
Technical Performance
The Castle Creations 11T MOD1 Pinion is engineered with the precision expected from a specialist RC components manufacturer. The MOD1 module specification (also known as Pitch 1.0) ensures consistent tooth engagement and minimal backlash when meshing with compatible MOD1 spur gears. This is critical for reliable power transmission and smooth operation of your brushless motor system. The 5mm shaft bore is precisely machined to automotive tolerances, providing a secure interface with brushless motors that feature standard 5mm output shafts—a specification found on the majority of brushless RC motors available in the UK market. The 11-tooth count represents one of several ratio options available, allowing you to fine-tune your vehicle's performance characteristics. When paired with various spur gear sizes, this pinion enables gear ratio adjustments that directly influence your vehicle's acceleration curve and maximum achievable speed. The component is designed for use with brushless motor systems, which have become the dominant drivetrain technology in RC racing and recreational vehicles. Brushless systems offer superior efficiency, lower maintenance requirements, and more predictable power delivery compared to brushed alternatives. The straightforward mechanical design means this pinion will integrate seamlessly into any RC vehicle platform designed around MOD1 gearing, whether you're building a high-performance 1/8 scale buggy, truggy, or truck for competitive racing or recreational bashing.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pinion gear and why do I need one for my RC car? — A pinion gear is a small gear mounted on your motor shaft that meshes with a larger spur gear to create your vehicle's final drive ratio. The ratio between pinion and spur gear teeth determines how much torque and speed your motor delivers to the wheels. Changing the pinion tooth count lets you adjust this ratio without replacing your spur gear, making it the most cost-effective way to tune your RC vehicle's acceleration and top speed.
- Is the Castle Creations 11T MOD1 Pinion compatible with my brushless RC motor? — This pinion is designed for any brushless motor with a 5mm shaft, which is the standard size found on most contemporary brushless RC motors in the UK market. You'll also need a MOD1 spur gear to pair with it—these are commonly used on 1/8 scale platforms including buggies, truggies, and trucks. Check your vehicle's specifications to confirm it uses MOD1 gearing before purchasing.
- What difference will an 11-tooth pinion make to my RC vehicle's performance? — The 11-tooth count is a mid-range option that provides a moderate ratio adjustment. Fewer teeth on the pinion (such as 9T or 10T) will increase your vehicle's top speed but reduce initial acceleration, whilst more teeth (such as 12T or 13T) will improve acceleration but reduce maximum speed. The 11T sits between these extremes, making it suitable for balanced performance across various track conditions.
- How do I choose the correct pinion tooth count for my setup? — Pinion selection depends on your track conditions, driving style, and performance goals. Smaller pinion counts suit high-speed, open tracks; larger counts work better on tight, technical tracks requiring quick acceleration. Many RC enthusiasts purchase multiple pinions to experiment and find their optimal ratio, making them relatively inexpensive performance tuning components.
- Is this pinion suitable for beginners? — Yes, pinion gears are straightforward components that any RC enthusiast can install. If you're comfortable removing your motor and changing the pinion, you have the mechanical skill required. However, understanding gearing ratios and their effects on performance takes experience, so we'd recommend discussing your vehicle's needs with our expert team at RC Model Shop to help you select the right ratio.
- What MOD1 spur gear should I pair with this 11T pinion? — MOD1 spur gears come in various tooth counts, typically ranging from 55T to 85T depending on your vehicle. The ratio between your pinion and spur gear determines final drive characteristics. For example, an 11T pinion with a 65T spur gives a different ratio than an 11T pinion with a 75T spur. Your vehicle's manual or manufacturer specifications will indicate the recommended spur gear sizes for different gearing ratios.
