Overview

The Traxxas Big Bore Shocks (Long) represent the ultimate upgrade for RC enthusiasts in the UK seeking competition-grade suspension performance and durability. These hard-anodised aluminium shocks deliver exceptional damping control, making them the perfect choice for serious bashers and racers who demand the best from their RC 4WD vehicles. Whether you're pushing your RC truck to the limit on challenging terrain or competing at the track, these shocks provide the precision and reliability needed to conquer any obstacle.

Built with premium materials and precision engineering, these shocks stand out in the RC car UK market for their superior construction and performance characteristics. The large-diameter bore design holds significantly more oil than standard shocks, translating to more consistent damping across longer driving sessions and reduced maintenance requirements. If you're serious about upgrading your RC vehicle's suspension system, these shocks are engineered to deliver professional-level performance that makes a real difference in the field.

These shocks come pre-assembled and ready to install, saving you valuable setup time whilst ensuring perfect factory-spec performance from day one. The inclusion of titanium nitride-coated shafts and PTFE-coated aluminium bores demonstrates Traxxas's commitment to creating shocks that perform flawlessly even under the most demanding conditions.

Key Features

  • Hard-anodised T6 Aluminium Construction — The hard-anodised finish provides exceptional durability and corrosion resistance, whilst the premium T6 aluminium alloy offers superior strength compared to standard aluminium grades, ensuring these shocks can withstand the rigours of aggressive off-road driving and hard landings without flexing or damage.
  • PTFE-Coated Bores for Frictionless Action — The PTFE (Teflon) coating on the bore reduces friction between the piston and cylinder walls, delivering nearly frictionless damping action that translates to smoother suspension response and more predictable handling characteristics across all driving conditions.
  • Titanium Nitride-Coated Shock Shafts — These scuff-resistant TiN-coated shafts glide smoothly on the X-ring seals, providing long-lasting performance and reducing wear over time, which means your shocks will maintain consistent damping characteristics for extended periods between service intervals.
  • 70% More Oil Capacity than Stock Ultra Shocks — With 13mm bores compared to the standard 10mm, these big bore shocks hold significantly more oil, spreading the stress of oil displacement over a larger volume for more consistent damping and longer intervals between shock servicing.
  • Dual X-Ring Seals — The advanced dual X-ring seal design ensures long oil life and prevents leakage, keeping your shocks performing at their peak for extended periods whilst maintaining the integrity of the damping fluid.
  • Pre-Assembled with Spring Perches — These shocks arrive fully assembled and ready to install, with screw-mounted spring perches that stay firmly in place no matter how hard you push your vehicle, eliminating the need for glue or adhesive.
  • Sold Without Springs for Customisation — Unlike complete shock assemblies, these shocks are supplied without springs, allowing you to select the precise spring rate that matches your driving style, terrain preference, and vehicle setup, with rates ranging from 0.767 to 1.004 available separately.
  • Front Long Configuration — Specifically designed as front shocks in the long length specification, these are optimised for use on the front axle of compatible Traxxas 4WD vehicles, delivering the correct geometry and performance for front suspension duties.
  • Pair of Two Shocks — This package includes two shocks, providing a matching pair for your vehicle's front suspension needs with identical performance characteristics for balanced handling.

Technical Performance

These big bore shocks represent a significant step up from standard suspension components, engineered with materials and construction methods typically reserved for competition-grade RC equipment. The 13mm bore diameter is substantially larger than factory Ultra Shocks, creating a more substantial oil reservoir that maintains consistent damping pressure even during extended driving sessions or aggressive jumping and bashing. The hard-anodised T6 aluminium construction isn't merely cosmetic—the durable surface treatment reduces drag on spring coils that may contact the shock body during compression, whilst the premium aluminium alloy resists flexing under high loads. The PTFE coating on the bore works in conjunction with the titanium nitride-coated shafts to create a nearly frictionless system that responds instantly to terrain changes, providing the kind of damping precision that makes the difference between winning and losing at the track. The screw-mounted spring perches ensure that your chosen spring rate remains securely fastened regardless of how hard you land jumps or bash through rough terrain. These shocks excel in both high-traction on-road conditions and loose, unpredictable off-road environments, making them versatile enough for virtually any Traxxas 4WD platform. The engineering philosophy behind these shocks prioritises durability and consistency—the larger oil capacity means the shocks can go longer between service intervals before the oil becomes stressed and loses its damping properties, a genuine advantage for serious RC enthusiasts who want to spend more time driving and less time maintaining their equipment.

What's in the Box

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are these shocks suitable for a beginner RC driver? — These are competition-grade shocks designed for experienced RC enthusiasts and serious competitors. Whilst they're not difficult to install, they represent a premium upgrade and require purchasing separate springs, so they're best suited to drivers who understand suspension tuning and want to extract maximum performance from their RC vehicle.
  • What spring rate should I choose for my Traxxas 4WD? — Spring selection depends on your specific driving style and terrain. For general-purpose driving close to stock performance, 0.767 rate fronts and 0.874 rate rears are recommended. For more aggressive terrain and high-jumping, you can step up to 0.892 front and 1.004 rear rates. The black colour-coded springs represent the lower rates, perfect for starting your tuning journey.
  • How do these compare to standard Traxxas Ultra Shocks? — The GTR big bore shocks featured here offer several crucial advantages over Ultra Shocks: the 13mm bores provide 70% more oil capacity for more consistent damping, the hard-anodised finish is more durable and reduces friction, and the PTFE-coated bores combined with TiN-coated shafts deliver nearly frictionless action. These upgrades translate to more responsive handling, longer oil life, and fewer service requirements between uses.
  • Do I need to service these shocks regularly? — Whilst these shocks require less frequent service than standard models due to their larger oil capacity and superior coating technology, regular maintenance is still recommended for optimal performance. The larger oil reservoir means you can go longer between services, but the specific interval depends on your driving intensity and environmental conditions.
  • What vehicles are these compatible with? — These long-length shocks are designed for Traxxas 4WD models that accept this configuration. They're commonly used on vehicles like the Hoss 4X4 VXL and similar Traxxas trucks. Always verify your specific model's compatibility before purchasing.
  • Why are these shocks sold without springs? — Selling shocks without springs allows you to select the ideal spring rate for your specific driving style, terrain, and vehicle setup. Different drivers prefer different rates—some want a softer, more compliant ride whilst others prefer stiffer springs for technical terrain. This flexibility ensures you can tune your suspension perfectly.
  • What makes the PTFE coating important? — PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene, commonly known as Teflon) creates an extremely slippery surface that reduces friction between the piston and cylinder bore. This frictionless action means your shocks respond instantly to bumps and jumps, delivering more precise damping control and ultimately better handling and predictability on any terrain.
