Overview
The Tamiya Lexan Spray Paint PS-27 Fluorescent Yellow TAM86027 is a professional-grade polycarbonate paint specifically formulated for decorating transparent Lexan bodies used in RC car modelling. This vibrant fluorescent yellow finish has been developed by Tamiya, one of the world's most respected names in RC hobby products, to deliver exceptional colour coverage and durability on polycarbonate RC bodies. Whether you're building a competitive RC car in the UK or simply refreshing your existing model's bodywork, this spray paint offers the quality and performance you expect from Tamiya's extensive range of RC finishing products.
Each 100ml can contains the perfect amount of paint needed to finish one complete RC model body, making it an economical choice for hobbyists and serious racers alike. This product is specifically engineered for use on transparent polycarbonate bodies, which are standard across modern RC cars from all major manufacturers. The fluorescent yellow colour provides exceptional visibility on the track or off-road course, making your RC vehicle stand out whilst maintaining the translucent aesthetic of a Lexan shell when viewed from the side.
RC enthusiasts across the UK rely on Tamiya spray paints for their consistency, colour accuracy and long-lasting finish. Unlike budget alternatives, Tamiya paints are formulated to bond properly with polycarbonate without causing damage or clouding, ensuring your investment in a quality RC body shell is protected. The paint is applied from inside the polycarbonate body rather than from the outside, a technique that requires the right product formulation—and Tamiya has perfected this process over decades of RC manufacturing expertise.
Key Features
- Fluorescent Yellow Colour — This vibrant, eye-catching fluorescent yellow finish provides superior visibility for your RC car during racing or bashing sessions, ensuring your model stands out on the track or trail whilst maintaining the professional appearance expected of a Tamiya-finished body.
- 100ml Can Size — The generous 100ml capacity is precisely calculated to provide sufficient paint for completing one full-sized polycarbonate RC body with appropriate coverage, eliminating the need to purchase multiple cans for a single project and offering excellent value for money.
- Formulated for Polycarbonate — Unlike generic spray paints, this product is specially developed for use on transparent Lexan polycarbonate bodies, ensuring the paint adheres correctly without cracking, peeling or clouding the plastic, which protects your investment in a quality body shell.
- Oil and Fuel Resistant — These paints are completely impervious to oil and fuels, making them safe for use on gas-powered RC car bodies as well as electric models, ensuring the finish maintains its integrity regardless of the propulsion system you use.
- Interior Application Method — The paint is designed to be applied from inside the polycarbonate body shell, which is the professional technique used by experienced RC modellers, requiring you to keep the spray can approximately 30cm from the internal surface for optimal coverage.
- Multiple Coat Capability — After the initial coat has cured, you can apply additional coats as necessary to achieve deeper colour saturation or build up the finish to your desired intensity, giving you complete control over the final appearance.
- Tamiya Quality Assurance — As an official Tamiya product, this spray paint meets the highest standards for RC hobby materials, backed by decades of manufacturer expertise and trusted by RC enthusiasts throughout the UK and worldwide.
Technical Performance
The Tamiya Lexan Spray Paint PS-27 represents the pinnacle of polycarbonate finishing technology for RC car modelling. The paint formulation is engineered specifically to bond with transparent polycarbonate without causing the stress cracks, cloudiness or adhesion failures that can occur when using unsuitable products. The 100ml capacity has been scientifically calculated to provide complete coverage for a standard polycarbonate RC body shell, with enough material for a full coat application plus additional layers if required for deeper colour saturation. The fluorescent yellow pigmentation utilises high-quality dyes that maintain their vibrancy over extended use, whether your RC car is racing competitively or being bashed through rough terrain. The paint's resistance to oil and fuel compounds is a critical feature for RC modellers with nitro-powered vehicles, as traditional fuels and two-stroke oils can degrade inferior finishes. The recommended application distance of 30cm when spraying from inside the body shell ensures even atomisation and consistent coverage across the polycarbonate surface. Curing times between coats allow for proper paint flow and adhesion, with the ability to apply multiple layers for enhanced colour depth and durability. This professional-grade formulation demonstrates Tamiya's commitment to quality in every aspect of RC hobby products, from chassis and engines through to finishing materials.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I use this Tamiya spray paint on plastic models or non-polycarbonate bodies? — No, you must never use this paint on plastic models. This product is specifically formulated for transparent polycarbonate bodies only. Using it on standard plastic model kits or other plastic materials will result in damage to the model. Always ensure you are painting a genuine polycarbonate Lexan RC body shell.
- How do I apply this paint correctly to my RC car body? — The paint is applied from the inside of the polycarbonate body shell, not from the outside as you would with traditional plastic models. Hold the spray can approximately 30cm away from the internal surface and apply an even coat. After the paint has cured, you can apply additional coats if needed for deeper colour saturation or complete coverage.
- Is this paint suitable for both electric and nitro-powered RC cars? — Yes, this paint is suitable for all types of RC cars. It is impervious to oil and fuels, making it safe for gas-powered nitro RC bodies as well as electric-powered models. The chemical resistance ensures the finish will not degrade when exposed to two-stroke engine oils or nitro fuel commonly used in RC racing.
- What is the difference between this fluorescent yellow and standard yellow Tamiya paints? — Fluorescent yellow is significantly more vibrant and visible than standard yellow, making your RC car stand out dramatically on the track or in outdoor environments. The fluorescent pigmentation provides enhanced visibility for racing and bashing whilst maintaining the professional appearance expected from Tamiya products.
- How much coverage does one 100ml can provide? — One 100ml can is specifically formulated to provide complete coverage for one full-sized polycarbonate RC car body. This means you can typically finish an entire body shell with a single can, though you may need additional cans if applying multiple coats for deeper colour or if you are working on particularly large body shells.
- Why is the painting method different for polycarbonate bodies compared to plastic models? — Polycarbonate bodies are transparent shells that are painted from the interior surface to protect the paint finish and preserve the aesthetic of the body. This application method requires specially formulated paint that bonds correctly with polycarbonate without cracking or clouding, which is exactly what this Tamiya product delivers.
