Overview

The Traxxas Spring, shock (Red) (GTR) (5.9 rate Blue) (std. Rear 120mm) (1 pair) TRX5444 is an essential suspension tuning component for 1/10 scale RC vehicles running Traxxas GTR shock absorbers. Whether you're a competitive racer fine-tuning your RC car for maximum performance or a weekend basher looking to customise your vehicle's handling characteristics, these genuine Traxxas GTR shock springs offer the precision engineering and build quality you need. Available from RC Model Shop, a trusted UK RC hobby retailer, these springs represent a core upgrade path for anyone serious about optimising their 1/10 scale RC truck or buggy's suspension geometry and on-track behaviour.

Suspension tuning is one of the most effective ways to improve your RC vehicle's performance, and spring rate selection is fundamental to getting the balance right between body roll, chassis squat and overall stability. Traxxas GTR springs are engineered to allow you to precisely compensate for lighter or heavier vehicle configurations, meaning whether you're running a stripped-down race setup or a fully loaded basher truck, you can dial in the exact suspension stiffness needed. These aren't generic springs—they're purpose-built for the GTR shock platform and manufactured using high-quality spring steel to ensure consistent performance lap after lap, season after season. The 5.9-rate blue stripe specification offered here strikes a popular middle ground in the Traxxas spring range, making it an ideal choice for drivers looking to stiffen up the rear suspension without going to extreme rates.

For UK RC enthusiasts seeking genuine, authorised Traxxas parts, RC Model Shop is your trusted source. These springs come as a pair, ready to install on the rear shocks of compatible 1/10 scale vehicles. If you're upgrading from factory springs, switching between vehicles, or simply need to replace worn suspension components, the TRX5444 delivers the quality and performance you expect from Traxxas's premium component range.

Key Features

  • High-Quality Spring Steel Construction — These springs are manufactured using premium spring steel that maintains consistent performance characteristics across thousands of suspension cycles, ensuring your vehicle's handling remains predictable and responsive throughout extended bashing or racing sessions.
  • Durable Red Powder-Coated Finish — The springs feature a professional red powder-coated finish that protects against rust and corrosion while providing a factory-quality appearance that matches Traxxas's design standards for 1/10 scale RC vehicles.
  • 5.9 Rate Blue Stripe Specification — This specific spring rate is indicated by blue stripe markings on the end of the spring, allowing you to quickly identify the rate and ensuring compatibility with other suspension components in your setup; the 5.9 rate is stiffer than lighter rates but softer than the heaviest options, making it ideal for balancing ride quality with chassis control.
  • Sold as Matched Pair — These springs are supplied in a pair specifically designed for rear shock installation, ensuring consistent left-to-right suspension geometry and predictable handling characteristics across your RC vehicle's width.
  • GTR Shock Platform Compatibility — These springs are engineered specifically for Traxxas GTR shock absorbers, which are found on a range of 1/10 scale models including the E-Revo and Summit platforms, though fitment may require pre-load collar adjustment on some vehicles.
  • Suspension Tuning Flexibility — By selecting springs of different rates, you can adjust how your vehicle responds to throttle input, cornering loads and bump absorption, allowing you to dial in handling characteristics that match your driving style and track conditions.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas GTR spring platform represents decades of suspension engineering expertise applied to 1/10 scale RC vehicles. These TRX5444 springs at 5.9 rate blue stripe offer a sweet spot in the Traxxas spring lineup—stiff enough to reduce unwanted chassis squat during acceleration and provide responsive cornering feel, yet compliant enough to maintain traction over rough terrain and technical track layouts. The high-quality spring steel used in their manufacture means they won't fatigue prematurely or lose their rate characteristics over extended use, unlike cheaper aftermarket alternatives that can sag or become unpredictable as they age. The 120mm rear standard length specification indicates these are the correct size for rear shock installation on compatible 1/10 scale models. When you choose a spring rate, you're directly controlling how much the vehicle's body will compress and extend through the suspension travel—higher rates mean stiffer response and less body movement, whilst lower rates provide more comfort and suspension compliance. The 5.9 rate sits in the mid-range, making it suitable for both on-road speed runs and off-road bashing where you need a balance between control and traction. The red powder-coated finish isn't merely cosmetic; it provides essential corrosion protection, particularly important for UK RC enthusiasts who may encounter moisture-laden conditions or salt-laden environments during outdoor bashing sessions. Installation requires removing your existing springs and sliding these new ones onto your GTR shock bodies, a straightforward task that takes only minutes and requires no special tools or expertise.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a spring rate and why does it matter for my RC car UK setup? — Spring rate is a measurement of how stiff a spring is, expressed in a numerical value where higher numbers indicate stiffer springs. For RC vehicles, spring rate directly affects how your chassis responds to bumps, cornering forces and acceleration—stiffer springs reduce body roll and squat but can feel harsh over rough terrain, whilst softer springs absorb bumps better but allow more body movement. The 5.9 rate blue stripe on these springs is a mid-range option suitable for most driving conditions.
  • Will these GTR springs fit my Traxxas vehicle? — These springs are specifically designed for Traxxas GTR shock absorbers and are compatible with 1/10 scale models that use this shock platform, including vehicles like the E-Revo and Summit. However, fitment may require adjustment of the pre-load collar on some vehicles; some users have successfully fitted them to other Traxxas models by winding down the pre-load collar a few turns, though standard Traxxas vehicle springs remain the officially recommended fitment for your specific model.
  • How do I know which spring rate to choose for my RC car? — Spring rate selection depends on your vehicle configuration, driving style and track conditions. Heavier vehicle setups or drivers who want to reduce chassis squat typically benefit from stiffer springs like the 5.9 rate, whilst lighter setups or drivers prioritising traction over rough terrain may prefer softer rates. Traxxas offers springs in multiple rates specifically to allow this customisation; you can experiment by starting with the 5.9 rate and moving to stiffer or softer options based on how your vehicle handles.
  • Are these springs suitable for beginners? — Yes, spring rate selection is one of the most accessible suspension tuning modifications available for RC vehicles, requiring no special tools or technical knowledge beyond basic vehicle maintenance. If you're new to RC suspension tuning, the 5.9 rate blue stripe represents a good starting point that works well for general-purpose bashing and light competitive driving.
  • What's the difference between spring colour stripes? — Traxxas uses coloured stripes on the end of springs to quickly identify their rate specification, making it easy to see at a glance which springs you're running. The blue stripe on these springs indicates the 5.9 rate; other rates use different colour markings, allowing you to keep track of your spring inventory and ensure you're installing the correct rate for your intended setup.
  • How long do these springs last before I need to replace them? — High-quality spring steel springs like these maintain their rate characteristics for many thousands of suspension cycles and should last for several seasons of regular use. You may eventually need replacement if springs become permanently deformed, lose their rate consistency, or develop cracks, but with proper maintenance and storage, genuine Traxxas springs provide excellent value over their service life.
