Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Hobbywing Skywalker 100A V2 suitable for beginners learning to fly RC aircraft? — Yes, absolutely. The Skywalker V2 series was specifically designed with RTF (Ready to Fly) models and beginners in mind. The ESC features straightforward setup, sensible factory default settings that work well for most aircraft, and programmable options that let you grow into more advanced configurations as your skills and knowledge develop. The comprehensive protection features including low voltage cutoff and throttle signal loss protection make it a safe choice for learning.
  • What battery specifications does the Skywalker 100A V2 require? — This ESC accepts LiPo batteries ranging from 3S (11.1V) up to 6S (22.2V), providing flexibility across a wide range of aircraft sizes and power requirements. The 100A continuous rating means you can safely use fairly demanding brushless motors. We recommend checking your specific motor's specifications to ensure the cell count matches your motor's voltage rating for optimal performance and lifespan.
  • How does the DEO Technology benefit my RC aircraft flying? — DEO (Driving Efficiency Optimization) is Hobbywing's proprietary technology that optimises how the ESC delivers power to your motor. The practical benefits you'll notice include faster and smoother throttle response, making your aircraft feel more responsive to control inputs and more stable in flight. Additionally, DEO reduces the operating temperature of the ESC, which means longer flight times from your battery and greater reliability during extended flying sessions.
  • What is the difference between the Skywalker 100A V2 and the smaller Skywalker 80A V2? — The primary difference is current rating and therefore the motor power capacity. The 100A model delivers 100A continuous (120A peak) versus the 80A model's 80A continuous (100A peak). Choose the 100A if you're using a larger, more powerful brushless motor, and the 80A if you have a smaller aircraft with a less demanding motor setup. Both share the same advanced processor, DEO technology, and protection features; it's purely about matching the ESC to your motor's current requirements.
  • Can I programme the Skywalker 100A V2 without additional accessories? — Yes, you can programme the basic functions directly from your transmitter using the Protocol Function settings. However, for more advanced configuration options including detailed brake settings, timing adjustments and search mode parameters, Hobbywing's LED Program Box (sold separately) provides a much more user-friendly interface and access to all available settings. The Programme Port on the ESC accepts both a Program Wire and Firmware upgrade connections.
  • What does the Reverse Brake feature actually do, and why is it useful? — The Reverse Brake function enables the motor to run in reverse at reduced power to help slow your aircraft during landing, effectively simulating the reversing function of full-size aircraft and significantly reducing the landing distance required. This is particularly valuable for aircraft flying from small fields or if you want tighter control during landing phases. You can select between Linear Reverse Brake mode, Normal Brake mode (with adjustable brake force), or Brake Disabled depending on your aircraft's characteristics and your flying style.
  • Is the Skywalker 100A V2 waterproof for flying in wet weather? — The specifications provided do not indicate a specific waterproof rating for this ESC. Whilst the unit features robust construction, we recommend protecting it from prolonged water exposure or heavy rain. For information on specific environmental operating conditions beyond normal moisture resistance, we recommend consulting the full manual or contacting Hobbywing technical support directly.
  • How much current does the BEC draw, and can it power my receiver and servos? — The integrated switch mode BEC delivers 5 volts at 7 amps maximum output. This is sufficient for powering a standard RC receiver and typical servo configurations found on most general aviation and sport flying aircraft. If you're using high-torque servos or an unusually power-hungry receiver, calculate your total servo current draw to ensure it doesn't exceed 7 amps, or consider using a separate battery for your servos.
  • What size is the Skywalker 100A V2, and will it fit in my aircraft? — The ESC measures 85mm (length) x 36mm (width) x 9mm (height) and weighs just 92 grams, making it quite compact for an ESC in this current class. The slim 9mm profile is particularly important for fitting into many aircraft fuselages. We recommend verifying the mounting space in your specific aircraft before ordering to ensure a comfortable fit, particularly if you have a smaller model aircraft.
