What sets the QUICRUN 4274SL G2 apart from standard brushless motors is Hobbywing's commitment to thermal management and mechanical excellence. This isn't just another generic motor — it's an engineered solution that prioritises cooling, reliability, and consistent power delivery. The motor generates approximately 20°C less heat than comparable motors with identical specifications when tested under the same conditions, and external temperatures are reduced by around 12°C. For UK RC enthusiasts who push their vehicles hard in all weather conditions, this thermal efficiency translates directly into extended running times, reduced component stress, and longer overall lifespan of your RC car setup.

The G2 designation indicates this is the latest generation of the QUICRUN series, bringing refined engineering and improved materials to the platform. Whether you're new to brushless RC cars or an experienced basher looking for a reliable workhorse motor, the QUICRUN 4274SL G2 delivers genuine value and performance that justifies its reputation as one of the best budget-conscious options in the RC motor market.

Key Features

  • Asymmetrical Ball Bearing Design — The motor uses different sized ball bearings at the front and rear, with a large precision bearing at the front for superior load-carrying capacity and a smaller bearing with lower resistance at the rear. This asymmetrical configuration increases both reliability and overall efficiency, meaning your motor will handle the stresses of aggressive driving whilst maintaining smooth operation and longevity.
  • Ultra-High Efficiency with Reduced Temperature Rise — Through careful engineering and refinement, this motor achieves exceptional efficiency levels, resulting in minimal heat generation during operation. With internal temperatures approximately 20°C lower and external temperatures around 12°C lower than equivalent motors under identical test conditions, you'll experience extended runtime and reduced thermal stress on your ESC and battery.
  • Precisely Balanced Rotor — The rotor is carefully balanced to eliminate vibration and energy loss, ensuring smooth operation across the entire power band. This precise balance delivers good linearity in throttle response and prevents the energy wasting vibrations that can reduce overall performance and create unwanted mechanical stress on your vehicle's drivetrain.
  • 10AWG Silicone Outlet Wiring — The motor comes equipped with three 10AWG silicone wires that are flexible and easy to work with, unlike traditional rigid enamelled wire. The silicone construction makes wiring your motor to your ESC simple and straightforward, whilst the aesthetic appearance looks far more professional than older cable types, and the low-resistance connectors ensure efficient power transfer.
  • 6.5mm Male Connector (Low IR) — The standard 6.5mm male connector fitted to this motor ensures plug-and-play compatibility with modern brushless ESCs, including the Hobbywing WP 8BL150 G2. The low internal resistance design minimises voltage drop and maximises power delivery to your motor, ensuring every amp from your battery translates into rotational force.
  • Blind Hole Thread Design — The front mounting features a blind hole thread design that prevents damage from over-long mounting screws whilst maintaining compatibility with both M3 and M4 fasteners. This thoughtful engineering means you can adapt the motor to various mounting requirements across different vehicle platforms without worrying about screws protruding through and damaging the motor internals.
  • Modular Structure Design — The motor's modular construction makes disassembly, cleaning, and maintenance straightforward for hobbyists who want to keep their equipment in peak condition. Regular maintenance is convenient and quick, effectively prolonging the motor's working life and maintaining its efficiency over extended use.
  • Solid Materials and Quality Construction — Hobbywing's manufacturing process and commitment to high-quality materials ensures this motor delivers exceptional durability, maximum performance, and consistency across every unit produced. You're buying genuine engineering excellence, not a cheap knockoff.
  • Maximum RPM Rating of 55,000 — With a 2000KV rating on a 6S LiPo battery system, this motor can safely operate at up to 55,000 RPM, providing the power needed for thrilling acceleration and top-end speed in 1/8 scale applications without compromising reliability.

Technical Performance

The QUICRUN 4274SL G2 is engineered as a brushless sensorless motor specifically optimised for 1/8 scale Monster Trucks and similar applications. With a 2000KV rating, this motor delivers responsive throttle characteristics across 3S to 6S LiPo battery configurations, making it versatile for various power levels depending on your ESC and battery choice. The motor's 42mm diameter and 74.9mm length represent the industry-standard size for 1/8 scale applications, with a 5mm shaft diameter that mates to standard pinions. At just 477 grams, the weight is competitive for this class of motor, keeping your vehicle's centre of gravity low and improving handling characteristics.

The no-load current draw of 5.9A indicates efficient operation and low internal resistance — a sign of quality winding and construction. This efficiency is crucial for maximising battery runtime and minimising heat generation during extended driving sessions. The motor uses a 4-pole configuration and sensorless design, meaning it integrates seamlessly with sensorless ESCs like the recommended WP 8BL150 G2, eliminating the need for complex sensor wiring whilst still delivering smooth, reliable commutation across the entire RPM range.

The asymmetrical bearing arrangement is particularly clever engineering: the front bearing (D16×D5×T5) handles the radial loads created by the pinion gear meshing with your vehicle's spur gear, whilst the rear bearing (D13×D5×T4) uses a smaller diameter to reduce friction in the non-load-bearing end. This design philosophy permeates Hobbywing's engineering approach — every component choice is made to optimise the specific function it performs. Built with precision tolerances and quality materials throughout, this motor will withstand the impacts, vibrations, and sustained high-rpm operation that characterises serious RC truck driving in the UK.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Hobbywing QUICRUN 4274SL G2 suitable for beginners building their first brushless RC truck? — Yes, absolutely. Whilst this is a serious performance motor, it's not difficult to install or use. The sensorless design works with any modern brushless ESC, the connector is standard 6.5mm, and the silicone wiring makes installation straightforward. If you're new to brushless RC and want to avoid the complexity of sensored motors, this is an excellent choice that won't break the bank.
  • What battery system does this motor need? — The QUICRUN 4274SL G2 is rated for 3S to 6S LiPo battery packs. At 3S (11.1V), you'll achieve approximately 6,000 RPM under load, giving conservative performance. At 6S (22.2V), you'll reach the motor's maximum 55,000 RPM rating. Most 1/8 scale Monster Truck builds use 4S or 6S configurations depending on the desired speed and the ESC's current rating. A good starting point is a 4S LiPo (14.8V nominal) paired with an appropriately rated ESC.
  • Does the QUICRUN 4274SL G2 run hotter than other 2000KV motors? — No, quite the opposite. This motor runs cooler than comparable 2000KV motors from other manufacturers. Hobbywing reports approximately 20°C lower internal temperature and 12°C lower external temperature under identical test conditions. This is achieved through the efficient windings, precise rotor balance, and the asymmetrical bearing design that minimises friction losses.
  • Is this motor compatible with my existing 1/8 scale truck? — Most likely, yes. The 5mm shaft diameter and 42mm motor diameter are standard for 1/8 scale vehicles. The 6.5mm male connector is industry standard for brushless motors. The blind hole thread design in the motor mounting accepts both M3 and M4 screws, which covers nearly all 1/8 scale motor mounts currently available. If you have an older vehicle, check the mounting diameter (typically 42mm is standard).
  • What makes the G2 version better than the original QUICRUN 4274SL? — The G2 designation indicates second-generation improvements including refined bearing geometry, optimised winding patterns, and improved materials. These refinements result in better efficiency, cooler running temperatures, and improved reliability. If you're choosing between the original and G2, the G2 represents the current best version of this motor design.
  • Can I use this with a sensored ESC? — The QUICRUN 4274SL G2 is a sensorless motor, meaning it doesn't have Hall effect sensors. It's designed to work with sensorless ESCs, which is the most common ESC type in the RC hobby. Some advanced sensored ESCs can operate in sensorless mode, but you won't gain any benefit from the extra complexity. Stick with a sensorless ESC for this motor.
  • How long will this motor last with proper maintenance? — With regular cleaning and the modular maintenance design, you can expect thousands of miles of reliable operation. The quality construction and thermal management mean bearing wear is minimal compared to less efficient designs. The real lifespan depends on how hard you drive and how well you maintain the motor. Keep it clean, inspect the bearings occasionally, and this motor will outlast most components on your truck.
