Overview
The Hobbywing QUICRUN Brushed 540 30T Motor (HW30404313) is a purpose-built brushed electric motor designed for 1/10 scale RC cars, buggies, crawlers and 2WD trucks. This is a classic motor format that remains popular among RC enthusiasts across the UK who appreciate the simplicity, reliability and ease of maintenance that brushed motors offer. Whether you're building a new RC car from scratch, upgrading an existing setup, or looking for a replacement motor for your favourite RC vehicle, this Hobbywing motor delivers the performance and quality you'd expect from one of the hobby's most respected manufacturers.
The 30-turn (30T) configuration makes this motor ideal for on-road and general-purpose applications where a balance of speed and torque is required. With a maximum RPM of 14,000 at 7.4V, this motor produces impressive acceleration and response characteristics that make it a favourite for RC buggy racing, on-road bashers, and even rock crawlers that demand excellent control. Hobbywing's reputation for engineering excellence means you're investing in a motor that will deliver years of reliable service, whether you're a seasoned RC competitor or discovering the world of RC for the first time.
This brushed 540 motor is compatible with a wide range of 1/10 scale RC platforms and works perfectly with standard brushed ESCs (Electronic Speed Controllers) rated up to 12.6V input. It's a genuine OEM component from Hobbywing, not a budget alternative, and represents excellent value for money for anyone serious about their RC hobby in the UK.
Key Features
- Specialised Carbon Brushes — The motor features advanced carbon brush technology that extends the lifespan of the motor significantly compared to standard brushes, meaning fewer replacements and better value over the lifetime of your RC car.
- Zero-Cogging Torque Design — This engineering feature eliminates the jerky starting characteristic found in many brushed motors, delivering smooth and immediate throttle response that gives you precise control in all driving conditions.
- Excellent Efficiency — The motor is engineered for maximum power output from your battery, meaning longer run times and less energy wasted as heat, keeping your RC car performing consistently throughout your driving session.
- Outstanding Response and Control — The combination of design features makes this motor exceptionally responsive to throttle input, essential for competitive racing, precise manoeuvres, and technical driving situations where split-second timing matters.
- Adjustable Mechanical Timing — You can fine-tune the motor's timing to suit different driving styles and track conditions, giving you the flexibility to optimise performance for your specific needs.
- Modular Design for Easy Service — The motor's construction allows straightforward disassembly for cleaning and maintenance, meaning you can keep it running at peak performance without expensive trips to a hobby shop.
- 540 Motor Size — This standard 540 form factor is universally compatible with most 1/10 scale RC vehicles, making it an ideal replacement or upgrade motor for countless platforms available to RC enthusiasts in the UK.
Technical Performance
The Hobbywing QUICRUN Brushed 540 is engineered with precision tolerances and quality materials throughout. The motor measures 36mm in diameter and 53.2mm in length, making it a true 540-size motor that fits standard motor mounts on virtually all 1/10 scale buggies, on-road cars, crawlers and 2WD trucks. The 3.175mm diameter shaft is a universal standard in the RC hobby, compatible with standard motor mounts and pinions. At just 168g, the motor has minimal rotating mass, which improves acceleration response and reduces the rotational inertia that can make a vehicle feel sluggish. The 3-slot design optimises the magnetic field distribution for smooth power delivery across the entire RPM range. The motor features a 3.2mm bore that accepts standard 540-size pinion gears, and the 14,000 RPM output at 7.4V (2S LiPo) means this is a motor designed for relatively high-speed applications rather than crawling or very high-torque scenarios. The motor accepts input voltages up to 12.6V, meaning it's compatible with 2S and 3S LiPo battery packs commonly used in 1/10 scale RC cars. The brushed design is simpler than brushless alternatives, requiring no ESC with sensoring capabilities, and the motor integrates seamlessly with any brushed ESC rated for the appropriate voltage and current range. Build quality is outstanding, with precision-wound coils, hardened steel components and the specialised carbon brushes that Hobbywing is renowned for manufacturing.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Hobbywing QUICRUN Brushed 540 30T suitable for beginners? — Yes, absolutely. Brushed motors are generally more beginner-friendly than brushless alternatives because they're simpler mechanically and work with any basic brushed ESC. The modular design and ease of maintenance also make this motor ideal for learners who want to understand their RC car's mechanics and perform their own service and cleaning.
- What battery does this motor need? — This motor accepts input voltages up to 12.6V, which means it's compatible with 2S LiPo (7.4V) and 3S LiPo (11.1V) battery packs. Most 1/10 scale RC cars in the UK use 2S LiPo as standard, though 3S LiPo will provide approximately 50% more power output and speed. Always verify your ESC is also rated for your chosen battery voltage.
- What is the difference between the 30T and other turn configurations like 17T or 25T? — The turn count refers to how many times the wire is wound around the motor's armature. Lower turn counts (like 17T) produce higher RPM and more speed but less torque, making them suitable for high-speed on-road racing. Higher turn counts (like 35T or 45T) produce lower RPM but more torque, ideal for crawling and technical terrain. The 30T is a middle-ground configuration offering balanced speed and torque for general-purpose driving, on-road racing, buggies and mixed-terrain use.
- Can I upgrade from a standard brushed motor to this Hobbywing motor? — If your RC car currently has a brushed motor, this Hobbywing QUICRUN 30T is an excellent direct replacement. It uses the same 540 form factor and 3.175mm shaft diameter as standard motors, so installation should be straightforward. The improved performance from the carbon brushes and zero-cogging design will be immediately noticeable.
- How long do the brushes last before I need to replace them? — Hobbywing's specialised carbon brushes are engineered for extended lifespan compared to standard brushes. With regular maintenance and cleaning, you can expect thousands of miles of use before brush replacement becomes necessary. The modular design makes brush replacement straightforward and affordable when the time comes.
- Is this motor waterproof? — No, this is a standard brushed motor and is not sealed for waterproof operation. While casual splashing won't immediately damage it, prolonged water exposure or submersion should be avoided. If you regularly drive through water or mud, consider cleaning the motor thoroughly afterwards and allowing it to dry completely before use.
- What ESC do I need for this motor? — Any brushed ESC rated for the voltage you're using (up to 12.6V maximum) and with appropriate current capacity will work. Most 1/10 scale brushed ESCs (typically 30A-60A continuous rating) are perfectly suitable. Ensure your ESC has the same connector type as your motor, or factor in the cost of upgraded connector options if needed.
