Key Features
- 100% Waterproof Design — The Seaking 60A V3.1 features complete waterproof construction without requiring any additional protective housing or case, meaning you can operate your brushless RC boat in wet conditions without concern for water ingress or corrosion damage to the electronics.
- Advanced Cooling System with Patented Heat-Conductive Copper Bar — Hobbywing's patented heat-conductive copper bar cover sits on the power board and efficiently transfers heat away from critical components to the integrated CNC machined billet aluminium water cooled heat sink housing, keeping your ESC as cool as possible during sustained high-performance runs and preventing thermal throttling.
- Built-in Switch Mode BEC with 6V/3A Output — The integrated switch-mode Battery Elimination Circuit (BEC) provides stable 6-volt power at up to 3 amps, making this controller compatible with high-voltage digital servos and eliminating the need for a separate receiver battery pack in most RC boat installations.
- Special Algorithm Design for Enhanced Performance — The proprietary firmware algorithms implemented in the ESC firmware create more incredible acceleration characteristics and deliver significantly more stable sailing behaviour, translating to better handling precision and more responsive control feedback during competitive racing or casual cruising.
- Comprehensive Safety Protection System — Multiple adjustable safety options protect your equipment, including low-voltage cutoff protection that prevents over-discharging of LiPo batteries, thermal protection that monitors ESC temperature, and throttle signal loss protection that safely cuts motor power if radio connection is interrupted.
- Separate PRG/FAN Port for Programming Flexibility — The dedicated programming port allows you to connect the ESC to a Hobbywing LED program box via the included trio-colour programming cable, enabling you to access advanced customisation options without needing to connect to your transmitter or radio system.
- Transmitter-Based Programming Support — In addition to the separate program port, you can adjust many ESC parameters directly through your radio transmitter, allowing quick fine-tuning of settings without additional equipment.
- Brushless Motor Technology — Brushless motors offer superior efficiency, longer lifespan, cooler operation, and lower maintenance compared to brushed alternatives, making them the preferred choice for serious RC boat UK enthusiasts.
Technical Performance
The Seaking 60A V3.1 brushless speed controller is engineered for serious RC boat applications with a continuous current rating of 60 amps and a peak current capacity of 360 amps, enabling it to power high-performance brushless motors across a wide range of boat sizes and configurations. The ESC accepts 2-3S LiPo battery packs or 5-9 cell NiMH battery packs, providing flexibility for different power sources and allowing operators to choose between the higher energy density of modern lithium-polymer batteries or the safety and reliability of traditional nickel-metal hydride chemistries. The built-in switch-mode BEC delivers regulated 6-volt power at up to 3 amps, sufficient for most digital servo systems and receiver requirements without additional power distribution hardware. Physical dimensions measure 60.5 x 38.5 x 25.6 millimetres, whilst the complete assembly weighs just 95 grams, making this a compact and lightweight choice for space-constrained boat hulls. The water cooling pipe system features 2.0mm inner diameter and 4.0mm outer diameter specifications, allowing integration into boat cooling jacket systems for even more effective thermal management during extended operation. Input connectors utilise 4.0mm golden female plugs for secure, low-resistance connections with motor and battery wiring. The premium construction uses red and black 14AWG gauge wire for battery connections (150mm length each) and three black 14AWG gauge output wires (100mm length each) for motor connections, ensuring adequate current-carrying capacity and reliable power delivery. Advanced CNC-machined billet aluminium construction throughout the heat sink housing provides superior thermal conductivity and exceptional durability. The Seaking 60A V3.1 is specifically designed for RC boats up to approximately 70 centimetres in length, positioning it perfectly in the popular mid-size RC boat segment.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Hobbywing Seaking 60A V3.1 suitable for beginners entering the brushless RC boat hobby? — Yes, absolutely. Whilst the Seaking 60A V3.1 is a professional-grade controller with advanced features, it is user-friendly for newcomers to brushless boating. The transmitter-based programming support means you can adjust settings using your existing radio system, and the comprehensive safety features including low-voltage cutoff and thermal protection protect your equipment during the learning process. The included documentation provides clear guidance for initial setup, and RC Model Shop staff can assist with installation questions.
- What batteries are compatible with this brushless ESC? — The Seaking 60A V3.1 accepts 2-3S LiPo (lithium-polymer) battery packs, which have become the standard choice for modern RC boats due to their high energy density and consistent power delivery. Alternatively, you can use 5-9 cell NiMH (nickel-metal hydride) battery packs if you prefer the safety characteristics and proven reliability of traditional chemistries. Always verify your specific battery pack configuration matches these specifications before connecting.
- Can I use the Seaking 60A V3.1 in salt water or fresh water? — The ESC features 100% waterproof construction, so it can be used in both salt water and fresh water environments. However, after salt water operation, you should rinse the entire boat and ESC thoroughly with fresh water to prevent salt crystallisation and corrosion of exposed metal components. Always ensure all connectors are properly sealed and protected from water ingress.
- How does the Seaking 60A V3.1 compare to other brushless RC boat ESCs in the Hobbywing range? — The Seaking series includes multiple current ratings for different boat sizes. The 30A model suits boats under 45cm, the 60A V3.1 (this model) covers boats up to 70cm with switch-mode BEC and 3A output, the 120A handles boats to 110cm, and the 180A serves vessels up to 130cm. Choose your ESC based on your boat size and motor power requirements. The V3.1 designation indicates this is the latest firmware version with the most recent performance and safety improvements.
- What makes the Hobbywing Seaking 60A V3.1 better at heat management than basic ESC designs? — Standard ESCs suffer from heat buildup during extended operation at high throttle. This controller incorporates Hobbywing's patented heat-conductive copper bar cover on the internal power board, which actively transfers heat away from MOSFET transistors and other power electronics to the integrated CNC machined billet aluminium water cooled heat sink housing. This engineering approach keeps the ESC significantly cooler during operation, preventing thermal throttling and extending the lifespan of internal components. The optional water cooling jacket system further enhances heat dissipation for extreme racing applications.
- Can I programme this ESC without additional equipment? — Yes, you have multiple programming options. You can adjust most parameters directly through your RC transmitter using the integrated programme/throttle wire connection. For more advanced customisation, you can connect the separate PRG/FAN port to a Hobbywing LED program box using the included trio-colour programming cable. Both options provide access to safety settings, throttle calibration, BEC voltage configuration, and acceleration algorithms.
- Is the Seaking 60A V3.1 suitable for competitive RC boat racing? — Absolutely. The special algorithm firmware design creates incredible acceleration and stable sailing characteristics that benefit competitive racers. The 60-amp continuous / 360-amp peak current capacity provides the performance headroom needed for racing brushless motors. Professional RC boat competitors throughout the UK rely on Hobbywing Seaking series controllers, and this V3.1 iteration represents the latest advancement in the product line.
