Key Features

  • Intelligent Freewheeling Technology — This advanced feature optimises power efficiency by intelligently managing motor coasting, resulting in lower operating temperatures, improved stability, and greater overall reliability. You'll notice smoother acceleration curves and more responsive handling, which translates to better control whether you're racing on-road or bashing off-road.
  • Compact G2 Design — The G2 generation is significantly smaller than the previous 16BL30 ESC model, measuring 8.3 per cent shorter in length, 7.1 per cent narrower, and 16.7 per cent lower in height. This compact form factor makes installation easier on crowded chassis layouts and allows for much cleaner, neater wiring that looks professional and is easier to service.
  • Upgraded BEC with Switchable Voltage Output — The integrated BEC (Battery Elimination Circuit) now delivers 2A continuous current (up from 1A on the G1) with peak current capability up to 4A, allowing you to power demanding servos without a separate battery. The output voltage can be switched between 6V and 7.4V, giving you flexibility to match high-torque and high-voltage servos for faster response and more precise control.
  • IP67 Waterproof Protection Rating — Built to handle harsh environments including rain, sand, mud, and dusty conditions, the IP67 protection rating ensures reliable performance in challenging weather and terrain without environmental limitations. This rating has been tested under controlled laboratory conditions and provides splash resistance, water resistance, and dust resistance, making it suitable for virtually any off-road RC scenario.
  • Three Programming Methods — Choose your preferred programming approach with support for the LCD Program Box Pro (advanced data logging), the LED Program Box (intuitive visual feedback), or the onboard SET button (simplest option). This flexibility means you can adjust parameters exactly the way you prefer, whether you're a data-driven racer or prefer quick manual tweaks.
  • Wide Compatibility for Small-Scale Vehicles — Designed to work perfectly with both 1/16th and 1/18th scale RC vehicles including on-road cars, off-road buggies, short course trucks, and monster trucks. The ESC excels when paired with Hobbywing QuicRun 2030 G2 and 2435 G3 motors, delivering smoother, more refined control than lesser-matched combinations.
  • Sensorless Brushless Motor Support — This ESC operates exclusively in sensorless mode and supports sensorless brushless motors and sensored brushless motors (in sensorless operation only). This simplifies installation whilst maintaining excellent performance without the need for additional sensor wiring.
  • Beginner-Friendly Design — Specifically engineered for entry-level RC users, the QuicRun 16BL30 G2 requires no complex setup procedures. The straightforward design and intuitive operation mean you can get on the track or into the terrain minutes after unboxing, with professional results from day one.
  • Industrial-Grade Quality — Despite its entry-level positioning, this ESC benefits from Hobbywing's decades of engineering expertise and reputation for reliability. You're investing in proven technology backed by a manufacturer recognised across the RC hobby for quality, durability, and customer support.

Technical Performance

The Hobbywing QuicRun WP 16BL30 G2 is engineered to deliver impressive performance in a tiny 33.4 x 26.8 x 15.1mm package weighing just 38.5 grams. This ESC handles continuous currents of 30A with peak burst capability of 100A, making it suitable for punchy acceleration and sustained high-speed running on 2S and 3S LiPo batteries (7.4V to 11.1V). The construction uses premium wiring throughout, with dual input wires (16AWG black and red, 75mm length) and three output wires (16AWG black, 60mm length) for clean integration into any chassis layout. Power connection is via XT60 connector, industry-standard on most modern RC vehicles, whilst motor connection uses robust 3.5mm gold-plated bullets ensuring reliable power transfer without voltage drop. The BEC's switchable 6V/7.4V output at 2A continuous (4A peak) allows powering servo-heavy configurations without draining your main battery, extending flight times and improving servo response. The sensorless brushless design eliminates complexity whilst maintaining the smooth power delivery and efficiency that brushless motors are renowned for. Build quality throughout is evident in the sealed connectors, reinforced trace work, and conservative current rating that prioritises longevity over aggressive performance specifications. This is an ESC designed to survive years of regular use in British weather conditions and the rough-and-tumble world of RC bashing.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Hobbywing QuicRun 16BL30 G2 suitable for beginners? — Yes, absolutely. This ESC is specifically designed for entry-level users and requires no complex setup. It comes ready to use with the onboard SET button programming method, which allows quick parameter adjustments without purchasing additional equipment. The brushless sensorless design simplifies wiring compared to sensored alternatives, making it ideal for first-time brushless users in the UK RC community.
  • What battery does the QuicRun WP 16BL30 G2 require? — This ESC accepts 2S and 3S LiPo batteries, delivering a maximum voltage of 11.1V (3S configuration). A typical setup would use a 2S or 3S LiPo pack with an XT60 connector. The continuous 30A rating and 100A peak capability means it will work with virtually any small-scale brushless motor designed for these voltage levels. Always ensure your battery has adequate C-rating (discharge capability) for your chosen motor.
  • What is the main difference between the G2 and the previous generation 16BL30? — The G2 generation is significantly more compact (8.3 per cent shorter, 7.1 per cent narrower, 16.7 per cent lower in height), which makes chassis installation much easier and allows for cleaner wiring layouts. The BEC has been substantially upgraded, with continuous current increased from 1A to 2A and peak current capability reaching 4A, allowing it to power demanding servo configurations. Additionally, the G2 features intelligent freewheeling technology that reduces operating temperatures and improves stability compared to the G1 model.
  • Is the QuicRun 16BL30 G2 waterproof? — Yes, this ESC carries an IP67 waterproof rating, meaning it can handle splash, water resistance, and dust in normal usage conditions. This allows it to safely operate in rain, on muddy terrain, and in sandy environments. However, the rating is not permanent and protection performance may degrade over time with regular wear. Extended submersion in water will damage the ESC, so whilst splash protection is excellent, full water immersion should be avoided.
  • Can I use this ESC with sensored brushless motors? — The QuicRun WP 16BL30 G2 supports sensored brushless motors, but they will operate in sensorless mode only. True sensored operation is not available. For this reason, most users choose to pair it with dedicated sensorless brushless motors, which are simpler and more cost-effective anyway.
  • How do I programme the QuicRun 16BL30 G2? — You have three options: use the SET button directly on the ESC for quick adjustments, connect the LCD Program Box Pro for advanced configuration and data logging, or use the LED Program Box for visual feedback programming. The SET button method is most beginner-friendly and requires no additional purchase. Programme port is shared with the throttle wire connection.
  • What is the BEC output voltage switchable between? — The BEC can be configured to output either 6V or 7.4V depending on your servo requirements. The 2A continuous current (4A peak) available at either voltage setting allows you to power high-torque and high-voltage servos, giving you faster response and more precise steering control than weaker BEC designs.
  • Is this ESC suitable for both on-road and off-road RC cars? — Yes, the QuicRun WP 16BL30 G2 is rated for on-road cars, off-road buggies, short course trucks, and monster trucks in 1/16th and 1/18th scales. Its waterproof IP67 rating makes it particularly well-suited to off-road bashers in wet British conditions, though it performs equally well on tarmac racing setups.
