The Team Associated Silicone Diff Fluid 12,500cSt (AS5466) is a premium quality silicone differential oil designed specifically for maintaining and fine-tuning RC vehicle gear differentials. Whether you're an experienced RC enthusiast in the UK looking to optimise your competition setup or a dedicated hobbyist keen to improve your RC car's handling characteristics, this genuine Team Associated fluid offers a straightforward and reliable way to make consistent adjustments to your differential performance. The 12,500 cSt viscosity grade provides a defined resistance to differential action, allowing you to refine cornering behaviour and traction control to suit your preferred track conditions and driving style with precision and repeatability.

Differential fluids are essential consumables for any serious RC car owner, and selecting the right viscosity grade is crucial for achieving your desired handling balance. Team Associated's silicone-based formulation ensures consistent performance across a wide range of temperatures and driving conditions commonly encountered by RC enthusiasts throughout the UK. This is a genuine Team Associated product, clearly labelled with the part number AS5466, giving you confidence that you're using a trusted OEM fluid from one of the most respected manufacturers in the RC hobby industry. Whether you're setting up a new RC vehicle or maintaining an existing one, having access to quality differential oils in multiple viscosity grades allows you to explore different setups and discover what works best for your driving style and local track conditions.

Many RC car owners maintain a collection of differential fluids at different viscosity levels to facilitate rapid setup changes between practice sessions, qualifying rounds and competition races. The 12,500 cSt grade sits in the mid-to-higher viscosity range, making it suitable for drivers seeking increased differential lock-up and traction control during cornering. This fluid works equally well in on-road racing vehicles, off-road RC buggies, monster trucks and stadium trucks, provided you follow your specific vehicle's manufacturer recommendations and consult your manual for the appropriate viscosity grade for your model.

Key Features

  • Silicone-based formulation — Silicone differential fluids offer superior temperature stability compared to mineral oils, meaning the fluid maintains consistent viscosity whether you're racing in cooler British winter conditions or during warmer summer months, ensuring predictable and repeatable handling characteristics regardless of seasonal changes.
  • 12,500 cSt viscosity grade — This medium-to-high viscosity rating provides a defined level of resistance to differential action, giving you excellent control over traction and cornering behaviour, making it ideal for drivers seeking a balance between locking and free-spinning differential performance on various track surfaces.
  • Genuine Team Associated product — As an official Team Associated component (part number AS5466), this fluid is manufactured to the exact specifications and quality standards expected by Team Associated vehicle owners worldwide, ensuring compatibility and performance with all Team Associated RC vehicles that specify silicone differential oils.
  • Clearly labelled and identifiable — The bottle is clearly marked with the part number AS5466, making it simple to identify and manage your differential fluid collection, preventing accidental mixing of different viscosity grades and ensuring you apply the correct fluid to your specific setup requirements.
  • Straightforward setup tuning — Using quality differential fluids in a range of viscosity grades allows you to make consistent, measurable adjustments to your RC vehicle's handling without making other costly modifications, making it an economical way to optimise your setup between races or practice sessions.
  • Reliable and repeatable results — Team Associated's reputation for quality manufacturing extends to their fluid products, giving you confidence that each bottle will perform consistently, allowing you to make reliable comparative tests when evaluating different viscosity grades or setups.

Technical Performance

The Team Associated Silicone Diff Fluid AS5466 has been engineered to meet the precise specifications required by Team Associated RC vehicle owners and competition racers throughout the UK and worldwide. At 12,500 cSt, this fluid occupies the medium-to-higher end of the viscosity spectrum, providing meaningful resistance to differential action without creating excessive lock-up that might compromise traction or increase tyre wear on certain track surfaces. The silicone-based chemistry ensures that the fluid maintains its viscosity characteristics across the typical temperature range experienced during RC racing — from cool morning practice sessions through to hot afternoon competition runs. This thermal stability is particularly important because differential performance is directly influenced by fluid viscosity; as temperatures rise, less viscous fluids become thinner and provide less lock-up, whilst silicone formulations resist this change more effectively than traditional mineral oils. The 12,500 cSt grade represents a popular choice for many RC drivers seeking enhanced traction control and cornering stability, though some drivers may prefer lighter 5,000 cSt fluids for free-spinning differentials or heavier 50,000 cSt fluids for maximum lock-up. The fluid is supplied in a convenient bottle format suitable for differential service and maintenance on all RC vehicle types, from 1/10 scale on-road racing cars and 1/10 off-road RC buggies through to larger scale vehicles. Proper differential maintenance using quality fluids like this Team Associated product is fundamental to maintaining consistent handling throughout a racing season and ensuring your RC vehicle performs at its best every time you take it to the track.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is differential fluid and why do I need it for my RC car? — Differential fluid lubricates and controls the operation of your RC vehicle's gear differential, which allows the inner and outer wheels to rotate at different speeds during cornering. The viscosity (thickness) of the fluid directly controls how much the differential 'locks up' during turns; thicker fluids provide more lock-up and traction control, whilst thinner fluids allow more free-spinning. By changing the viscosity grade, you can fine-tune your vehicle's cornering behaviour and traction characteristics to suit different track conditions and your driving style.
  • What does 12,500 cSt mean and is this viscosity right for my setup? — cSt stands for centistokes, which is the measurement of fluid viscosity or thickness. 12,500 cSt is a medium-to-high viscosity grade that provides substantial differential lock-up and traction control. Whether this is the right choice for your vehicle depends on your specific model, the track surface you're racing on, and your preferred handling characteristics. Always consult your vehicle's manufacturer manual for recommended differential fluid viscosity grades, as different models may call for different specifications.
  • Why should I choose a silicone-based differential fluid instead of mineral oil? — Silicone differential fluids offer superior thermal stability compared to mineral oils, meaning they maintain more consistent viscosity across a wider temperature range. This is particularly valuable in the UK where ambient temperatures can vary significantly between seasons. With silicone fluid, your differential will behave more predictably whether you're racing in winter or summer, allowing you to make more reliable and repeatable setup changes.
  • Is the Team Associated Silicone Diff Fluid AS5466 compatible with my RC vehicle? — This genuine Team Associated fluid is designed for all Team Associated RC vehicles that specify silicone differential oils. However, before using any differential fluid, always consult your specific vehicle's instruction manual to confirm the recommended viscosity grade. Many other RC manufacturers' vehicles are also compatible with Team Associated differential fluids provided they are specified as silicone-based oils.
  • How often should I change my differential fluid? — Differential fluid should be inspected and potentially changed regularly, especially if you race frequently or in particularly dusty or wet conditions. As part of routine maintenance, many RC racers change their differential fluid several times per season. Dirty or contaminated fluid should be replaced immediately. Always refer to your vehicle's maintenance guide for specific recommendations.
  • Can I mix different viscosity grades of differential fluid? — It is not recommended to mix different viscosity grades, as this will result in unpredictable handling characteristics and make it difficult to assess how setup changes affect your vehicle's performance. Always drain your differential completely and refill with your desired viscosity grade when making changes.
  • What is the difference between 12,500 cSt and other available viscosity grades? — Team Associated and other manufacturers offer differential fluids in multiple viscosity grades. Lower viscosity fluids like 5,000 cSt provide minimal lock-up and a more free-spinning differential, suitable for drivers seeking ultimate traction. Higher viscosity fluids like 50,000 cSt provide maximum lock-up for maximum cornering control. The 12,500 cSt grade sits in the middle, offering a balanced approach that many drivers find ideal for general racing and tuning.
