Overview
The ETRONIX 15.3kg/0.16s Standard Digital Servo Metal Gear (ET2048) is a high-performance standard-sized servo designed to deliver exceptional steering response and reliability for RC car UK enthusiasts of all levels. Whether you're building a ready to run RC buggy, upgrading an existing 1/8 or 1/10 scale RC vehicle, or competing in precision steering applications, this servo combines impressive torque output with rapid response times that make a genuine difference to your model's handling characteristics. The metal gear construction ensures durability through demanding driving sessions, whilst the digital control electronics provide the precision needed for both casual bashing and competitive racing.
This servo stands out in the crowded servo market because it offers professional-grade performance at an accessible price point. The 15.3kg of torque at 6.0V combined with a lightning-quick 0.16 second response time (measured at 60 degrees) means your steering inputs are translated into immediate, precise model movement. Many RC enthusiasts upgrade to this servo specifically because they notice the improvement in steering feel and the ability to maintain control in high-speed driving situations. The servo is engineered to handle the demands of modern RC racing, whether you're piloting a brushless RC buggy through tight course gates or controlling a 4WD monster truck across challenging terrain. Standard-sized servos like the ET2048 are the industry workhorse for mid-range RC applications, offering the perfect balance between power, speed, size and weight.
Built by Etronix, a recognised manufacturer of quality RC components, this servo is purpose-built for reliability and consistency. The compact dimensions (40.5 x 20.3 x 38.0mm) and light weight (55.6g) mean it fits into virtually any standard servo mounting location without adding significant mass to your vehicle. Whether you're upgrading from a cheaper servo or building your first quality RC car UK setup, the ET2048 will immediately demonstrate why proper servo selection matters to your driving experience.
Key Features
- Metal Gear Construction — The servo uses metal gears rather than plastic, which provides superior durability and resistance to wear during extended use. This means the servo maintains its performance characteristics over hundreds of driving sessions, making it a genuinely cost-effective investment compared to cheaper plastic-geared alternatives that degrade over time.
- Digital Control Electronics — Digital servos process command signals more precisely than analogue servos, resulting in sharper steering response and more accurate positioning. This translates directly into better handling characteristics and more predictable model behaviour during racing or competitive driving.
- 15.3kg Torque Output — This torque specification means the servo can generate significant force to move steering linkages and control surfaces even when subjected to high-speed aerodynamic forces or rough terrain impacts. Competitors and serious RC enthusiasts specifically seek out this torque level because it eliminates steering lag and prevents the steering mechanism from being pushed off course by external forces.
- 0.16 Second Response Time — Measured at 60 degrees of travel, this ultra-fast response time at 6.0V means your steering commands are executed with minimal delay. In racing situations where fractions of a second determine lap times, this rapid response allows you to make micro-adjustments that faster drivers depend upon.
- Complete Hardware Package Included — The servo arrives with a full selection of servo horns (multiple options to suit different linkage configurations), mounting rubbers (which isolate vibration and reduce servo wear), and fixing hardware (all necessary fasteners for installation). This means you can install the servo immediately without hunting for additional parts.
- Standard Size Form Factor — The compact dimensions ensure compatibility with virtually all standard-sized servo mounting locations found on RC buggies, monster trucks, and touring cars. Standard-sized servos like this are the industry default, meaning parts, mounts and accessories are widely available and affordable.
- 6.0V Optimised Performance — All specifications are rated at 6.0V, which is the standard voltage for NiMh battery systems in most RC cars. This ensures you'll achieve the advertised torque and speed when using conventional 4-cell NiMh packs (the most common battery type for RC vehicles in the UK market).
Technical Performance
The ETRONIX ET2048 is engineered for the demanding world of RC racing and high-performance driving. At 6.0V (the standard voltage delivered by most 4-cell NiMh battery packs used in RC cars), the servo delivers a commanding 15.3kg of torque measured at the servo horn, providing more than sufficient force to control steering linkages even when subjected to aerodynamic pressures at high speeds or impact forces when driving through rough terrain. The 0.16 second response time at 60 degrees of travel places this servo in the rapid-response category; to understand what this means in practical terms, consider that this servo can execute a complete steering input faster than the human eye can perceive, enabling the precision steering inputs that separate competitive drivers from casual bashers. The metal gear construction is the critical differentiator here — whilst plastic gears are cheaper to manufacture, they flex under load, absorb impact energy and gradually wear down, resulting in slop and reduced precision over time. Metal gears maintain their engagement characteristics throughout hundreds of driving sessions, ensuring consistent performance week after week. The servo weighs just 55.6 grams and measures 40.5 x 20.3 x 38.0mm, making it compatible with standard servo bays found on the vast majority of RC cars, buggy kits and ready to run RC vehicles sold in the UK. The plastic case keeps overall weight minimal whilst the internal metal components handle the actual stress. This servo is appropriate for any RC application requiring standard-sized servo mounting, including 1/10 and 1/8 scale touring cars, buggies, monster trucks, and rock crawlers. The digital control system provides superior command resolution compared to analogue servos, meaning the radio receiver can command many more precise positions throughout the servo's travel range, resulting in smoother, more predictable steering feel.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this servo suitable for standard-sized RC cars and buggies? — Yes, absolutely. The ET2048 is specifically designed as a standard-sized servo, meaning it uses the industry-standard mounting configuration found on virtually all 1/10 and 1/8 scale RC buggies, touring cars, and monster trucks. The 40.5 x 20.3 x 38.0mm dimensions fit perfectly into standard servo bays without modification.
- What voltage does this servo require and what battery should I use? — The servo is rated for 6.0V operation, which means it should be powered by a 4-cell NiMh battery pack (the industry standard for RC cars in the UK). Most ESCs (electronic speed controllers) include a BEC — a Battery Elimination Circuit — that regulates battery voltage down to the required servo voltage. You should verify that your ESC has a functional BEC before connecting this servo, as powering it with incorrect voltage will damage the electronics.
- Will this servo work in my RC car if I'm upgrading from a cheaper servo? — In almost all cases, yes. Standard-sized servos are universally compatible with standard servo mounting locations. However, you should check your specific vehicle's manual or online specifications to confirm it uses standard servo mounts. If your car uses a different servo size (such as mini or large-scale servos), this standard-sized servo will not fit.
- What is the difference between this metal gear servo and cheaper plastic gear servos? — Metal gears maintain their shape and engagement characteristics through hundreds of driving sessions, whereas plastic gears gradually flex, wear, and develop slop under load. Over time, a plastic-geared servo will feel mushy and imprecise, whilst the metal gears in this ETRONIX servo will maintain consistent, crisp steering response. Competitive racers and serious RC enthusiasts universally choose metal-geared servos for this reason — the upfront cost difference is recovered quickly because the servo maintains performance far longer.
- Is this servo waterproof? — No, this servo is not waterproof. It is suitable for dry conditions and should not be submerged or exposed to prolonged moisture. If you're driving in wet conditions or through water, you'll need a waterproof servo designed specifically for those applications.
- Can I use this servo in an 8th scale or 10th scale RC car? — Yes, standard-sized servos work in both 1/10 and 1/8 scale vehicles. The servo's torque and speed make it appropriate for these scales. For 1/8 scale applications, verify your vehicle has standard servo mounts and that your ESC has sufficient BEC current capacity.
