Key Features
- Special Hardened Steel Construction — The pinion is manufactured from premium hardened steel, a material specifically selected to resist tooth wear, maintain concentricity over extended use, and deliver consistent performance lap after lap or bash after bash. This material choice is critical because softer materials simply cannot withstand the constant meshing forces in high-performance RC drivetrains.
- CNC-Cut Teeth with Perfect Concentricity — Every tooth is precisely shaped using advanced CNC machinery, ensuring that the gear runs with absolute concentricity (perfect alignment on its rotational axis). This engineering precision eliminates vibration, reduces noise, and ensures smooth power delivery from your motor to the spur gear, directly translating to better handling and longer component lifespan.
- 9-Tooth Configuration for Speed-Optimised Gearing — The 9-tooth count represents the lower end of the pinion tooth range, making it ideal for high-speed driving on open circuits and large track layouts. Lower tooth counts produce higher gear ratios (lower numerical values), allowing your motor to spin faster and your RC car to achieve greater top speed, though with slightly reduced torque for hill climbing.
- 32DP Module Standard — The 32DP specification ensures compatibility with all 32DP spur gears and drivetrain components, making this pinion a true plug-and-play upgrade for any RC car already equipped with 32DP gearing. This standardisation within the RC hobby means you're not locked into a proprietary system.
- 3.17mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — The pinion features a precision-bored 3.17mm diameter shaft hole, which is the standard fitting for most brushless and brushed RC motors used in 1/10-scale racing and bashing vehicles. This standardised shaft diameter ensures you can confidently purchase this gear knowing it will fit your motor without modification.
- Tooth Number Marking for Easy Identification — Each pinion is laser-marked with its tooth count, eliminating the need to count teeth manually or guess which gear you're holding. This feature is invaluable when managing multiple pinions for different track setups or when troubleshooting gear ratio issues.
- Ultra-Precise Tooth Shaping — The CNC manufacturing process ensures that each tooth profile is identical, maintaining perfect mesh engagement with your spur gear. Inconsistent tooth shaping can lead to backlash, noise, and accelerated wear, so this precision engineering is not a luxury but a necessity for high-performance RC applications.
- Vibration-Free Operation — By combining hardened steel, precision CNC manufacturing, and perfect concentricity, this pinion delivers the smooth, silent operation that distinguishes professional-grade RC components from budget alternatives. Reduced vibration means better motor cooling, more responsive handling feedback, and less stress on your RC car's transmission components.
- European Manufacturing Quality — Built in Europe to stringent quality standards, this pinion reflects the engineering excellence that Team Corally has established throughout the RC hobby. European manufacturing typically means tighter tolerances, more rigorous quality control, and better long-term reliability compared to budget alternatives.
- 1.5mm Hex Key for Tool-Free Mounting — The pinion uses a standard 1.5mm hex key socket for secure fastening to your motor shaft, a specification that indicates professional engineering and ensures that you can maintain this component with basic RC tools that you likely already own.
Technical Performance
The Corally 32 DP Pinion represents a culmination of modern RC drivetrain engineering, specifically optimised for competitive racing and high-performance bashing. At just 9 teeth, this pinion is engineered for speed-focused driving scenarios where maximising acceleration and top-end velocity is the priority. The 32DP module specification places this gear in the world of precision RC engineering, where tolerances are measured in fractions of a millimetre and every engineering decision impacts on-track performance. The special hardened steel material has been chosen for its superior resistance to the constant meshing stresses that occur thousands of times per minute during RC operation. With a 4.0mm teeth width and 9.0mm overall gear length, this short pinion profile minimises rotational inertia, allowing your motor to accelerate more quickly and respond more sharply to throttle inputs — a critical advantage in competitive RC racing where reaction time and agility determine winners. The 3.17mm shaft diameter compatibility ensures direct mounting to standard brushless and brushed motors without adapters or modifications, maintaining the precise alignment that modern RC engineering demands. For 1/10-scale RC cars, buggies, and trucks equipped with 32DP gearing, this pinion provides the gear ratio flexibility needed to optimise performance across different tracks, weather conditions, and driving styles. Whether you're racing on a tight indoor circuit requiring quick acceleration or an open outdoor track where top speed matters most, swapping from a 10-tooth pinion to this 9-tooth version will deliver noticeable performance increases, particularly in the high-end acceleration band where modern brushless motors truly excel. The precision manufacturing and hardened steel composition mean you can expect exceptional durability, with many RC competitors reporting thousands of running hours from a single pinion gear without noticeable wear or performance degradation.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the gear ratio difference between a 9-tooth and 10-tooth pinion? — In RC gearing, lower tooth counts produce numerically higher gear ratios, which means faster top speed but slightly reduced acceleration and hill-climbing torque. Moving from a 10T to a 9T pinion typically increases your top speed by approximately 10-12%, though the exact difference depends on your spur gear size and motor characteristics. Many RC racers keep both options on hand so they can quickly adapt to different track layouts during a racing day.
- Is the Corally 32 DP Pinion suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is certainly a high-quality component, pinion selection is more of an intermediate/advanced consideration. Beginners typically purchase complete ready-to-run RC cars that already have appropriate pinions installed. However, if you're a beginner who has already purchased an RC car and are now learning about performance tuning, this is an excellent educational component. The marked tooth number and standard 3.17mm shaft diameter make it easy to install even for someone new to gear changes.
- How do I know if this pinion is compatible with my RC car? — Your RC car must have a 32DP drivetrain and a brushless or brushed motor with a 3.17mm shaft diameter. Most 1/10-scale RC buggies, trucks, and monster trucks use 32DP gearing as standard. You can verify compatibility by checking your vehicle's specification sheet or by examining your current pinion — if it's marked 32DP, this Corally gear is a direct replacement. The 3.17mm specification is also standard across most 1/10-scale brushless motors, so compatibility is typically straightforward.
- Why would I choose 9 teeth instead of 10 or 11 teeth? — The 9-tooth configuration is ideal if you want maximum speed and are racing on circuits where top-end velocity is advantageous. If you're bashing through rough terrain or driving on tight indoor tracks, you might prefer a 10T or 11T pinion for better acceleration and climbing power. Many experienced RC enthusiasts keep multiple pinions on hand, swapping them between races or practice sessions based on track conditions and weather.
- What makes hardened steel worth the investment over standard steel? — Hardened steel resists wear significantly better than standard steel, particularly at the tooth tips where contact stresses are highest. After hundreds of running hours, a standard steel pinion may show visible wear and tooth deformation, whilst hardened steel maintains its precise tooth profile indefinitely. This longevity translates to better performance consistency and better value over the life of the component.
- How often should I replace my pinion gear? — With proper maintenance and quality hardened steel like this Corally pinion, you can typically expect 50-100+ hours of running time before replacement becomes necessary. However, if you're racing competitively, you might replace it more frequently to maintain absolute consistency. Inspect your pinion periodically for visible tooth wear or damage — these are signs that replacement is approaching.
- Does this pinion fit my specific RC car model? — The Corally pinion fits any RC car with 32DP gearing and a 3.17mm motor shaft diameter. Common compatible vehicles include Team Associated models, HPI Racing vehicles, and various other 1/10-scale RC platforms. If you're unsure about your specific model, consult your vehicle's manual or contact us at RC Model Shop — our experienced staff can confirm compatibility instantly.
- What is the difference between this Team Corally pinion and budget alternatives? — Budget pinions are often made from standard steel with less precise CNC manufacturing, resulting in visible runout (wobble), tooth imperfections, and premature wear. The Corally pinion's hardened steel construction, precision CNC shaping, and guaranteed concentricity mean it maintains its precise tooth profile longer, delivers smoother, quieter operation, and ultimately provides better value through superior longevity and consistent performance.
