Key Features

  • Special Hardened Steel Construction — The pinion gear is manufactured from specially hardened steel that provides exceptional toughness and durability, ensuring the teeth resist wear and damage even under demanding racing conditions or aggressive bashing use, ultimately extending the lifespan of your drivetrain.
  • CNC-Cut Teeth for Perfect Geometry — Each tooth is precisely shaped using CNC machining equipment, guaranteeing perfect tooth shape and concentricity that cannot be achieved through casting or conventional manufacturing methods, which means smoother meshing with your spur gear and more efficient power transfer.
  • Ultra-Precise Tolerances and Concentricity — The pinion gear is manufactured to extremely tight tolerances, ensuring that every gear runs perfectly true with zero runout, which eliminates vibration and noise whilst maximising reliability during high-speed running or competition use.
  • Vibration-Free Operation — Thanks to the ultra-true running characteristics achieved through precision manufacturing, this pinion operates with virtually no vibration, which reduces stress on your motor bearings, gearbox components and chassis, whilst providing a smoother driving experience with better traction feedback.
  • 64 DP Module Specification — The 64 DP (diametral pitch) rating means this pinion is compatible with all cars using 64 DP gearing systems, and it can be combined with different spur gear sizes to create custom gear ratios that suit your specific track layout, driving style and performance requirements.
  • 28-Tooth Configuration for Balanced Performance — The 28-tooth count provides an excellent middle-ground gear ratio that suits a wide variety of track conditions, from carpet racing to outdoor clay tracks, offering good acceleration whilst maintaining reasonable top-end speed without excessive motor strain.
  • 3.17mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — This pinion is specifically designed for 3.17mm diameter motor shafts, the standard specification on most modern brushless RC car motors, ensuring a secure fit with minimal assembly hassle and proper load distribution across the motor shaft.
  • Individual Tooth Count Marking — Every pinion is clearly marked with its tooth number directly on the gear body, allowing you to instantly identify the correct pinion during assembly, maintenance or when changing your gear ratio, saving valuable time and eliminating confusion.
  • European Manufacturing Quality — Produced in Europe to strict quality control standards, this Corally pinion represents the precision engineering and reliability that European RC manufacturers are renowned for, giving you confidence in the product's performance and longevity.

Technical Performance

The Corally 64 DP Pinion represents the pinnacle of drivetrain component engineering for serious RC car builders and competitors. Operating on a 64 DP module specification, this pinion gear is engineered to work seamlessly within precision RC drivetrain systems where every fraction of a millimetre and every component tolerance directly impacts overall vehicle performance. The special hardened steel material selected for this pinion has been specifically chosen to withstand the significant rotational forces and shock loads that occur during acceleration, cornering and emergency braking in competitive racing or aggressive bashing scenarios. When paired with matching 64 DP spur gears, this 28-tooth pinion creates drivetrain systems that deliver smooth, efficient power transmission with minimal energy loss, ensuring that the maximum torque and horsepower from your brushless motor is delivered directly to the tyres. The 4.00mm teeth width and 9.00mm overall gear length provide optimal contact surface area with your spur gear whilst maintaining the compact form factor required for modern RC gearbox designs. The 1.5mm hex key socket in the securing nut allows simple removal and installation using standard RC tools, making maintenance and gear ratio adjustments straightforward. The ultra-true running characteristics achieved through CNC precision manufacturing mean that vibration is virtually eliminated, which reduces fatigue stress on all drivetrain components including the motor bearings, gearbox housing and chassis structure. This precision-engineered construction directly translates into improved handling characteristics, enhanced traction feedback, and the durability required for either competitive race meetings or extended weekend bashing sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a 64 DP pinion gear and why does the specification matter? — A 64 DP (diametral pitch) pinion is a motor gear that meshes with your spur gear to transfer power from the motor to the wheels. The 64 DP specification indicates a specific tooth pitch size that must match your existing spur gears. DP specifications are critical because using incorrect DP ratings will result in poor mesh, vibration, noise, and potential drivetrain failure. The 64 DP rating on this Corally pinion means it will only work correctly with 64 DP spur gears, so always verify your existing gearbox components before purchasing.
  • Is this pinion suitable for beginners building their first RC car UK setup? — Yes, this Corally pinion is suitable for beginners, though you do need to ensure your RC car's gearbox uses 64 DP gearing. This is a standard specification on many popular RC cars. If you're unsure about your vehicle's gearing specifications, consult your car's manual or contact RC Model Shop for guidance. The pinion itself is straightforward to install once you have the correct tools and understanding of your gearbox layout.
  • How does a 28-tooth pinion compare to other tooth counts? — The tooth count on a pinion directly affects your vehicle's gear ratio and therefore its acceleration and top speed characteristics. A 28-tooth pinion is a mid-range option; lower tooth counts (like 24T or 25T) provide faster top speed but less acceleration, whilst higher tooth counts (like 29T or 30T) deliver stronger acceleration but lower maximum speed. The 28T option is versatile and suits most track layouts and driving styles, making it an excellent starting point for most RC car builders.
  • Can I use this pinion on any RC car? — This pinion will only work on RC cars that use 64 DP gearing with 3.17mm motor shafts. Many popular RC cars including Corally models and other competitive 1/10 scale vehicles use this specification, but not all do. Always verify your vehicle's motor shaft diameter and spur gear DP rating before purchasing. Installing an incompatible pinion will result in poor mesh engagement and potential drivetrain damage.
  • What tools do I need to install this pinion? — You will need a 1.5mm hex key (Allen key) to secure the pinion onto your motor shaft. Most RC enthusiasts already have standard metric hex key sets in their toolbox. You may also need a motor shaft lock tool or collet nut tool depending on your motor's design, but many modern brushless motors feature simple set screw designs that require only the hex key.
  • Will this pinion improve my RC car's performance? — If you're replacing a worn or damaged original pinion with this Corally hardened steel unit, you can expect improved reliability and smoother drivetrain operation due to the precision CNC manufacturing and hardened material. If you're changing from a different tooth count, you'll notice changes in acceleration and top speed depending on whether you've selected a higher or lower tooth count compared to your previous setup.
  • Is the hardened steel material worth the investment? — Yes, the hardened steel construction provides significantly better durability compared to standard steel pinions, particularly if you engage in competitive racing or aggressive bashing. The material resists wear on the tooth flanks, reducing the need for frequent replacement and ultimately providing better value over the lifetime of the component. Hardened steel pinions also maintain tighter tolerances and runout specifications even after extended use.
