Overview
The Corally 64 DP Pinion Short Hardened Steel 32 Teeth Shaft Dia. 3.17mm (Model C-71332) is a precision-engineered gear component designed for RC enthusiasts and competitive racers across the UK. This pinion gear represents the kind of high-quality replacement part that serious RC car hobbyists rely on to maintain peak performance in their vehicles. Whether you're upgrading your electric RC car, fine-tuning your drive system, or replacing worn components after intensive racing, this hardened steel pinion delivers the durability and precision you need to keep your RC model running smoothly.
As a dedicated RC car UK retailer, we understand that the difference between good and great performance often comes down to the quality of individual components. The Corally pinion range has established itself as a trusted choice among RC enthusiasts because these gears are manufactured to exacting standards. The 32-tooth configuration offers a balanced approach to gearing ratios, making it suitable for a wide range of RC applications and driving styles. Whether you're running a ready to run RC car or a competition-grade build, having quality replacement pinions on hand ensures you're never sidelined by a damaged gear.
This particular pinion is part of the extensive Corally 64 DP pinion range, which provides RC car owners with multiple tooth count options from 17 teeth right through to 40 teeth. This comprehensive selection means you can dial in the exact gearing ratio your RC car needs for optimal performance in your specific driving conditions, whether that's high-speed track racing, off-road bashing, or precision handling courses.
Key Features
- 64 DP (Diametral Pitch) specification — The 64 DP rating ensures this pinion is compatible with other components manufactured to this standard, providing precise meshing with your spur gear for smooth power transmission and minimal backlash in your RC car's drivetrain.
- Hardened steel construction — Steel hardening increases the gear's resistance to wear, deformation, and chipping during intensive use, meaning this pinion will maintain its tooth profile and performance characteristics far longer than standard gears, reducing the frequency of replacements and keeping your RC car reliable.
- Short pinion design — The short profile minimises weight while maintaining structural integrity, which is particularly beneficial for electric RC cars where reduced rotating mass contributes to faster acceleration and improved efficiency in your RC vehicle's drivetrain.
- 32 teeth configuration — With 32 teeth, this pinion strikes a balance between acceleration and top speed, making it a versatile choice for many RC applications and driver preferences; users can experiment with different tooth counts from the complete Corally range to find the optimal setup for their driving style.
- 3.17mm shaft diameter — This standard shaft size ensures compatibility with most modern RC car motors and drive systems, allowing easy installation without requiring additional adapters or modifications to your RC setup.
- Precision manufactured — Each pinion is manufactured to tight tolerances, ensuring consistent performance and reliability across your RC fleet and minimising gear noise and vibration during operation.
Technical Performance
The Corally 64 DP Pinion Short Hardened Steel represents the pinnacle of precision gear engineering for RC cars. The hardened steel material used in this pinion's construction undergoes a specialised heat treatment process that significantly increases its hardness and wear resistance compared to standard steel gears. This engineering choice matters because RC cars—whether they're ready to run models or custom-built competition vehicles—subject their drivetrain components to intense stresses during acceleration, cornering, and braking. The 64 DP pitch specification is a critical measurement that determines the size and spacing of the gear teeth; a higher DP number means smaller, more precise teeth that can mesh with tighter tolerances. The 32-tooth count places this pinion in the mid-range of the Corally offering, providing a balanced gearing solution that works across various motor specifications and speed controllers. The 3.17mm shaft diameter is a standard specification in modern RC car design, ensuring this pinion will fit directly onto most brushless and brushed RC motors without requiring spacers or adapters. The short profile design keeps rotating mass minimal, which directly translates to quicker acceleration and improved energy efficiency in your RC vehicle's power delivery. For UK RC enthusiasts running electric-powered RC cars—whether brushless or brushed systems—this pinion's combination of hardened steel durability, precision manufacturing, and balanced tooth count makes it an essential component for maintaining optimal performance and extending the service life of your RC car's transmission system.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What RC cars is the Corally 64 DP 32-tooth pinion compatible with? — This pinion is compatible with any RC car that uses a 3.17mm shaft motor and 64 DP gearing system. The 64 DP standard is widely used across electric RC cars, including 1/10 scale RC buggies, RC truggy models, RC monster trucks, and other electric-powered RC vehicles. Check your vehicle's specifications to confirm it uses 64 DP components before purchasing.
- Why choose hardened steel over standard steel gears? — Hardened steel pinions offer significantly better durability and longevity compared to standard steel gears. The hardening process increases the material's resistance to wear, deformation, and chipping—particularly important for RC cars that experience intense acceleration and deceleration cycles. This means fewer gear replacements, less downtime, and better long-term value for your RC hobby investment.
- How do I know if I need the 32-tooth pinion or a different tooth count? — The pinion tooth count directly affects your RC car's gearing ratio and performance characteristics. More teeth (higher numbers) generally provide better top-end speed but less acceleration, while fewer teeth offer quicker acceleration but lower maximum speed. The 32-tooth configuration offers a balanced middle ground suitable for mixed-use RC driving. If you want more acceleration, try 28-30 teeth; for higher top speed, try 34-37 teeth. Many RC racers keep multiple pinions on hand to fine-tune their setup for different track conditions and driving styles.
- What is the difference between 64 DP and other DP specifications? — DP (Diametral Pitch) determines the tooth size and spacing on a gear. 64 DP gears have smaller, more precise teeth compared to lower DP numbers like 48 DP or 32 DP. The 64 DP standard is common in modern electric RC cars and provides excellent precision and smooth meshing. You must use components manufactured to the same DP specification; mixing different DP gears will result in poor meshing, noise, and potential damage to your RC car's drivetrain.
- Can I upgrade from standard steel to this hardened steel pinion? — Yes, this is a direct upgrade that will improve the durability of your RC car's drivetrain. If your vehicle uses a 3.17mm shaft motor and 64 DP gearing, you can simply replace your existing pinion with this hardened steel version. The hardened construction will extend the life of the gear and reduce wear on your spur gear, providing better overall value over time for your RC car.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — This is a replacement component rather than a complete RC car, so it's suited for anyone maintaining or upgrading an existing RC vehicle. Beginners should ensure their RC car uses compatible specifications (3.17mm shaft, 64 DP) before purchasing. If you're new to RC cars, we recommend starting with a ready to run RC model and consulting the manual or experienced RC enthusiasts when selecting replacement components.
- What warranty or support does RC Model Shop provide? — At RC Model Shop, we stand behind all Corally products with the manufacturer's warranty. If you have any questions about compatibility or specifications before purchasing, our experienced RC team is available to help you find exactly the right components for your RC setup.
