The black anodised finish provides both aesthetic appeal and protective corrosion resistance, ensuring your investment looks and performs as intended season after season. For those seeking to maximise their Bully 2 Competition Crawler's potential, this universal set is an indispensable upgrade that transforms steering response and articulation capability.

Available from RC Model Shop, the UK's trusted supplier of premium RC crawler parts and upgrades, this universal set comes with expert support and the assurance of genuine RC4WD components. Whether you're building a competition-ready crawler or upgrading an existing machine, our team understand the demands of serious RC crawling and are here to help you make the right choice for your setup.

Key Features

  • CNC Machined Construction — Every universal joint is precision-machined using computer numerical control technology, ensuring absolute consistency and tight tolerances that standard manufacturing simply cannot achieve. This level of precision directly translates to smoother articulation, reduced binding, and more predictable steering response when navigating technical terrain.
  • Heat Treated for Durability — The components undergo professional heat treatment processes that significantly increase material hardness and wear resistance. This treatment ensures the universals can withstand the extreme stresses placed upon them during aggressive rock crawling without developing cracks, stress fractures, or premature wear that would compromise performance.
  • Black Anodised Finish — The protective anodised coating serves a dual purpose: it provides corrosion resistance that keeps components performing smoothly even in wet and muddy conditions typical of UK terrain, whilst also delivering the professional appearance expected on competition-grade equipment.
  • Maximum Steering Angle of 45° — These universals are engineered to deliver a maximum steering angle of 45 degrees, providing exceptional articulation for navigating tight obstacles and complex crawling lines. This steering capability allows drivers to manoeuvre through extremely challenging terrain whilst maintaining control and precision.
  • Left and Right Configuration — The set includes both left and right universal joints, providing a complete steering solution ready for installation on the front axle assembly. This ensures balanced steering geometry and consistent performance across both sides of your crawler.
  • Lightweight Design — With a total weight of just 1.68 ounces (47.6 grams), these universals minimise rotational mass and unsprung weight, improving suspension response and handling dynamics. Lighter components also contribute to better overall vehicle balance and more predictable behaviour on technical terrain.

Technical Performance

The RC4WD Z-S1919 universal set represents the pinnacle of precision engineering for RC crawler steering systems. Constructed entirely from materials selected for their strength-to-weight ratio and durability under cyclic stress, these universals employ advanced CNC machining to achieve tolerances measured in fractions of millimetres. The heat treatment process hardens the material structure, creating components that resist the repetitive stresses imposed by rock crawling—compression, tension, and torsional forces that would quickly wear conventional components. The black anodised finish is not merely cosmetic; it represents a precise electrochemical process that creates a protective oxide layer, safeguarding the underlying aluminium alloy from oxidation, corrosion, and the moisture encountered in UK outdoor conditions. The 45-degree maximum steering angle specification is a carefully engineered limit that represents the optimal balance between steering capability and mechanical durability. Exceeding this angle places disproportionate stress on the universal joint bearing surfaces, potentially leading to premature wear or catastrophic failure under load. For this reason, RC4WD recommends the use of mechanical steering limiters to prevent drivers from accidentally exceeding the 45-degree specification, particularly during high-pressure competition driving. The lightweight construction—47.6 grams total weight—ensures that these components integrate seamlessly into your crawler's weight budget, contributing to the overall performance envelope without compromising suspension geometry or vehicle balance.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the maximum steering angle these universals support? — The RC4WD Z-S1919 universal set is engineered to deliver a maximum steering angle of 45 degrees. Operating the axles beyond this angle is not recommended and may cause damage to the universal joint. To prevent accidental oversteer and potential mechanical failure, RC4WD strongly recommends installing mechanical steering limiters that physically prevent the steering from exceeding the 45-degree specification.
  • Are these universals suitable for competition-level rock crawling? — Yes, absolutely. The Z-S1919 is specifically designed for competition-grade RC crawling applications. The CNC machined, heat-treated construction and precision engineering make these universals ideal for serious competitors who demand the highest levels of reliability and performance. These components are not casual bashers—they represent professional-grade steering solutions engineered for demanding technical terrain and organised competition use.
  • Which Bully 2 axle assembly do these universals fit? — The RC4WD Z-S1919 universal set is designed for installation on the RC4WD Bully 2 Competition Crawler Front Axle (model Z-A0012). Before purchasing, confirm your crawler uses this specific axle assembly to ensure compatibility.
  • Why should I upgrade to these universals from standard options? — The Z-S1919 represents a significant upgrade over standard or entry-level universals due to the precision CNC machining, professional heat treatment, and tight engineering tolerances. These features collectively result in smoother articulation, reduced binding, more predictable steering response, and substantially improved durability under the extreme stresses of rock crawling. For serious competitors and dedicated RC crawler enthusiasts operating in the UK's challenging terrain, this level of engineering represents the difference between consistent performance and mechanical failure.
  • What material are these universals constructed from? — The Z-S1919 universals are manufactured from aluminium alloy that has been heat-treated to increase hardness and wear resistance. The heat treatment process is critical to durability, significantly improving the material's ability to withstand cyclic stressing from rock crawling without developing cracks or excessive wear.
  • Can I use mechanical steering limiters with these universals? — Yes, and RC4WD strongly recommends doing so. Mechanical steering limiters are devices that physically prevent the steering linkage from exceeding a predetermined angle—in this case, the 45-degree maximum safe operating angle. Installing limiters protects your investment by preventing accidental oversteer that could damage the universals, particularly during competitive driving when concentration may be divided between terrain obstacles and vehicle control.
