Overview

The FTX Outback 3 Left/Right Steering Hubs are essential replacement chassis spares designed specifically for the FTX Outback 3.0 range of 1/10 scale trail crawlers. Whether you're driving the Paso or Treka variant, these steering hubs form a critical part of your RC car's front-end geometry and steering response. As a dedicated RC enthusiast in the UK, maintaining your trail crawler with genuine OEM spares ensures optimal performance and longevity of your investment. These hubs are precision-engineered components that directly affect how your RC crawler handles tight corners and technical terrain, making them an essential part of any serious basher's spares collection.

If you own an FTX Outback 3.0 RTR in any colour variant—whether that's the popular Yellow Paso, Orange Treka, Blue Paso, or Blue Treka models—having spare steering hubs on hand is a smart maintenance decision. Trail crawling demands precision steering geometry, and the steering hub is where your servo linkage connects to the wheel assembly. A damaged or worn hub can compromise your vehicle's handling characteristics and make it difficult to maintain consistent steering response on challenging terrain. The FTX Outback 3 steering hubs are engineered to withstand the rigours of rock crawling, boulder bashing, and technical off-road driving that makes the Outback 3 range so beloved among UK RC enthusiasts.

RC Model Shop stocks genuine FTX spares, and we understand that keeping your ready to run RC crawler in top condition requires access to quality replacement parts at reasonable prices. The FTX Outback 3 left and right steering hubs come as a pair, meaning you have both sides covered if either hub becomes damaged during enthusiastic driving sessions. Whether you're repairing your crawler after a bash or planning ahead with spare parts, these hubs represent excellent value for money and ensure your Outback 3 continues to perform at its best.

  • Affordable Replacement Parts — Priced competitively at just £2.99 excluding tax, these steering hubs represent excellent value for money and are affordable enough to stock multiple spares for serious bashers.

Technical Performance

The steering hub assembly in any 1/10 scale trail crawler serves as the fundamental anchor point for front-end steering geometry. In the FTX Outback 3, these hubs mount between the steering link (servo input) and the wheel hex assembly (wheel output), and they're supported by king pin bushings that allow smooth articulation during climbing and cornering. The design of the steering hub directly influences Ackermann steering geometry—the mathematical relationship that ensures both front wheels turn at appropriate angles relative to each other during cornering, which is absolutely critical for smooth, predictable handling on tight technical courses. The FTX Outback 3 steering hubs are engineered from durable plastic composite materials that provide an excellent balance between strength and light weight, which is essential for maintaining responsive steering feel on a 1/10 scale vehicle. The hub geometry has been optimised by FTX engineers to work seamlessly with the Outback 3's servo mount (FTX10009), servo link (FTX10023), and the rest of the front axle assembly (FTX10000). These components work together to create a reliable, predictable steering system that performs consistently across various terrain types, from smooth gravel tracks to rocky boulder fields. The steering hub connects via the servo link to your servo, which is typically a standard-size unit mounted via the Outback 3 servo mount. The precision manufacturing of these hubs ensures minimal play or slop in the steering linkage, which translates to tighter, more responsive steering input—essential when you're negotiating rocks and obstacles on the trail. Whether you're rock crawling slowly over technical sections or cruising along faster terrain, reliable steering hubs ensure your Outback 3 responds predictably to your radio inputs, allowing you to focus on line choice and technique rather than worrying about mechanical issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are these steering hubs compatible with my FTX Outback 3 trail crawler? — Yes, these left and right steering hubs are confirmed compatible with all FTX Outback 3.0 RTR models including the Paso Yellow (FTX5593Y), Treka Orange (FTX5594O), Paso Blue (FTX5593B), and Treka Blue (FTX5594B) variants. If you own any version of the FTX Outback 3.0, these hubs will fit perfectly.
  • How do I know when I need to replace my steering hubs? — You should consider replacing your steering hubs if you notice excessive play or looseness in your steering response, visible cracks or damage to the plastic hub components, or if your crawler is pulling to one side despite servo centering. Regular inspection of the steering geometry is good maintenance practice for any trail crawler.
  • Do I need to replace both hubs at the same time? — While this pack includes both left and right hubs, you can replace just the damaged hub if only one side is affected. However, many RC enthusiasts prefer to replace both as a set to ensure matched wear characteristics and consistent steering feel across both sides of the vehicle.
  • What other steering components might I need? — Depending on the extent of your repair, you may also need FTX Outback 3 steering hub carriers (FTX10004), steering links (FTX10026), servo link (FTX10023), or king pin bushings (FTX10031). The steering hub carriers specifically work with these hubs to create the complete steering assembly.
  • How long do steering hubs typically last? — The lifespan of your steering hubs depends heavily on your driving style and terrain. Casual trail cruisers might get a season or more from a set, while competitive rock crawlers who push their vehicles hard might need replacements more frequently due to the extreme forces involved in aggressive driving.
  • Are these hubs repairable if damaged? — Most steering hub damage is structural (cracked plastic) rather than simple wear, making them difficult or impossible to repair properly. Replacement is usually the most reliable solution to maintain steering geometry and handling characteristics.
